Kyevan Bal is the oldest known settlement in Yrnath. The city, built into the Etlixian Mountain Range on the island of D'Nalsi, was home to the largest congregation of peoples in the ancient world. The city served as the first capital for Ogoth Far-Treader's new Empire, and is often used to mark the beginning of true civilization in the world, though the latter claim is up for much debate.
History
The events leading to the founding of Kyevan Bal remain largely a mystery, as do the events leading up to its collapse. What information is available has been pieced together from writings left behind, all of which has been translated from the original proto-common.
The founding of Kyevan Bal is dated as 1E 1, placing this event as the first major occurrence in the Age of Civilization. Construction of the city began in earnest in the year 1E 2, though the start of the First Era War in the same year meant that much of the work was focused on building fortifications to protect the fledgeling settlement.
In time, the First Empire of Yrnath would be triumphant, and construction on the city restarted in earnest. The second ring was built as more people made the journey to the expanding city, looking to make a home in the capital of the Empire.
The city would continue to be the cornerstone of life across Yrnath until the year 1E 1113, when the entire city was mysteriously abandoned. Some historians suggest the events that led to their disappearance match the disappearance of the Eladrin centuries earlier, as if the city's arcanists were attempting to recreate the experiments being conducted when the Eladrin vanished from Yrnath.
Design
The city is designed as a number of circular rings surrounding the central palace. At the time of writing, archaeologists have confirmed the existence of five complete rings, with a sixth largely believed to have been under construction at the time of the city's destruction.
