The Chalice of the Tribunal

The Chalice of the Tribunal is a once-sacred artifact used in Elysian rituals that has since been transformed into the phylactery for the lichified members of the Tribunal. Much like the former island of Elysia, the Chalice has been mutated into a symbol of great malice, representing how the Tribunal warped the land and its people beyond recognition.

Uses

Former Uses

The Chalice of the Tribunal was originally crafted to be used in the ceremonies confirming new members of the Tribunal. When a new member of the Tribunal was chosen, a large festival would be held in the City of Elysia, in which the chalice would be used to annoint the new member. Unbeknownst to the assembled crowds, the process of anointing the members also connected them to a font of demonic energy, boosting their powers but corrupting their souls.   Over time, as the Tribunal usurped authority away from the Emperor, they began the necessary preparations to cast a powerful ritual spell known as Divine Allmage, which would grant the casters of the spell phenomenal arcane power, a power that would even rival the gods of the Upper Planes. The Chalice, their tether to the demonic power that had fueled their endeavors thus-far, became the focus of the spell. When the spell was cast, the intense amount of demonic energy that had taken root burst forth, consuming those who had been annointed, and transforming them into powerful liches. This power then spread over all of Elysia, consuming the entire island and mutating the local flora and fauna. This event was the catalyst for the Age of Collapse, as the massive release of demonic energy broke many of the seals separating the Lower Planes from the Prime Material.

Current Uses

Currently, many theorize that the Chalice is the source of the poison that has corrupted the island of Elysia, now referred to as the Savage Isle. Adventurers brave (or foolish) enough to voyage there might be able to restore what was lost, should the Chalice be broken and the liches guarding it defeated.
