Disk of Fractals

The Disk of Fractals is a circular disk made of pure silver, three inches in diameter and one centimeter in thickness.   Along the outside ring of each face, as well as along the edges, is an unsolveable maze-like carving of straight lines and right angles. It is flawlessly perfect in its design, even when viewed under a modest microscope.   On one face of the disk is an etched pattern that falls within the ratio of the golden spiral but is otherwise organic and jagged as it branches out into ever-smaller lines--similar to curling Lichtenberg figures. This design is densely carved at varying depths, clearly showing the fractal nature of the pattern.   On the other face is a simplified, but still accurate, etching of the fractal design without its repetitions. At a glance, it resembles a cross-section of an uncurling fern.

Meaning

To less-educated eyes, the Disk of Fractals is nothing more than a precisely-engineered art piece. It is kept pristine in a multi-layered padded box, safe from tarnish and accidental scratches from regular handling. More seasoned eyes might notice that the box is lined in lead on both the inside and outside in such a way that the seams do not overlap, presenting a highly efficient barrier to magical energy.   However, the disk is never in the presence of those who do not recognize it for what it is - one of the only accurate renditions of the true fractal pattern of Eldritch energy. The labyrinthine decoration along the edges keeps any hint of spontaneously-generated Eldritch energy from escaping its silver signet, an echo of how one can use cleverly-structured layers of arcana to slow the progression of self-replicating Eldritch energy.

Rarity

There are multiple disks such as this, but the effort and precision required to reproduce this pattern and its safeguard without error is well beyond all but the most skillful artisans--almost none of whom would be willing to work with even a representation of Eldritch energy. This particular disk is in the possession of the group only known as the Green Teeth.
