Duovari

Duovari are the second race. Where the Aeldvari were born of arcana and the heavens, the Duovari were born of earth - the physical land. There are hundreds, thousands, of Duovar clans, but only a few consistent subraces: stone dwarves (mountains/caverns), wood dwarves (forests/hills), sand dwarves (deserts/plains), and bog dwarves (marshes/deltas). Stone dwarves are by far the most populous race, and the best-known for their archaeological and architectural developments. They have very long memories and even longer written records and are mildly manabound.

Interactions with Other Races

Duovari consider Aeldvari to be equals or almost-equals, but are quite aware of the typical Aeldvaren attitude of general superiority. Duovari place different weights on their shared values, so they don’t see themselves as coming out second in the metaphorical matchup. Duovari are a proud people, but less prone to condescension than the Aeldvari--including to the Aeldvari.   Duovari have a great deal of sympathy for Hymvari and treat them like badly-made younger siblings. They understand the Hymvaren disadvantages but appreciate the ambitious spirit that drives the Hymvari to create their own complex cultures and kingdoms, and the Duovari find the Hymvari almost admirable for their uphill struggle. They don’t tend to underestimate or trivialize Hymvari kingdoms like the Aeldvari do.   Duovari have a conflicted view of Urkvari; where they can appreciate Hymvari because a Hymvar is not a threat even on a good day, an Urkvar can be a threat even on a bad day to a single Duovar. Duovari lack pity for Urkvari and rather keep them at arm’s-length, since they can’t meet them as equals in combat and Urkvari certainly can’t meet them as equals in culture or construction. They have a certain amount of respect for Urkvari, though, and don’t condescend about them, even if their tension can elicit some negative commentary.   Duovari have very, very little chance of interacting with Nagvari and largely consider them a non-factor in their lives, though they’re vaguely aware they exist.
