Harolalimú (/hɑɹɔlɑlɪmu/)

Harolalimú, proper noun, High Aeldvaren. birthplace of loss.

Known History

At the beginning of the Arcane epoch, a magical catastrophe called the Shattering affected many parts of the known world. A small continent to the southeast of Lumasca was broken apart into a haphazard cluster of islands and ravaged with unbound arcane energy. Most of Lumasca itself remained intact.   And the larger continent to the west of Lumasca, a place once known as Harokin--the birthplace of intelligent kinvar--vanished from the reach and awareness of civilization everywhere else. What happened on the surface of Harokin is uncertain; from a far distance, ships at sea could see every part of the wide land covered in endless arcane storms. No divination magic or clever technology could peer past the raging tempest, and so Harokin was renamed Harolalimú in honor of the uncounted lives that were forever lost in the Shattering.

Unknown History

On a tattered flag of etched leather...
something broke. dont know what. the sky maybe?   the gods came down. or up, or whatever. not the nice gods, not our makers. the other gods. the ones we dont sing for. big as mountains they are. and angry.   elfies got the bad end of things. all the magic in the land got sucked up by the gods. i heard them crying about it. being stuck like us, cant get away, cant leave. the gods stepped on their cities. dwarfs can hide underground in their mountains, but the elfies got nowhere to hide. its bad.   we okay though. magic dont hurt us much, not like it does elfies. so the gods being here and bringing magic storms with them is bad but not killed us all yet. orcs are strong.   elfies said this is history being made. told all of us to write what we can down. paper dont do good in storms, though, so im carving leather. maybe itll last.   never seen elfies so scared. all their big pretty cities are gone. no magic for them to eat. i guess that means they all starve. dwarfs too, maybe. us and humies will be okay without magic. havent seen any humies though. did they all get stomped?   hard to tell with how big the gods are, but seems like theyre fighting each other, not just stomping at us. wonder if they can die.

By the hand of Alasse Yinzumin, apprentice alchemist to Lithoniel Kristhana. City of Ilíris, province of Miâmis, under the primacy of Her Eternal Grace Empress Jhaerithe Llorva Aravae. Reaping 6th // 9 Frerõ of Nutlses. Year 759 of 86 Kith. May the Lady's Eyes see our memories last through what history may follow.   The cause of catastrophe is unknown. Ambient arcana bunched and tore open, allowing titanic monsters access to our land. They resemble nothing we know. The titans destroy everything they find and battle each other endlessly beneath a sky filled with riotous arcane tempest. Either the titans or the storm has absorbed all ambient arcana. Anima magic is unaffected, but arcane magic has been impossible to use. We cannot use translocation magic to flee or communication magic to call for help. We do not know how far this catastrophe reaches.   We are advising every kinvar to record their experience in whatever way they can. Our own outlook is bleak, but perhaps those who come after us will be able to piece together what happened.

On Turnday, 27 Andarmand, 8 Hymn, from the desk of Damaris Long in Karley.   3 separate colossus identified in past two months. List below. Karley destroyed upon colossus arrival, but half the town survived and sheltering with local dwarves (Kragbuckle of the Goldhand Stonedom). We number 937, alongside ~1900 dwarves. Copies of this message sent to nearest settlements to check for survivors; if received, please respond with names, numbers, locations, sighted colossus.   Star Colossus - first observed, destroyer of Karley. ?Six? limbs that branch into more at each joint, no obvious face or head, dark polished and reflective exterior like metal or gemstone. Manic and unpredictable in movement, aggressive to its kin. Only colossus so far to walk without dragging its body over the ground.   Tar Colossus - second observed, inconsistent number of extrudable limbs, exterior like slowly oozing tar. Leaves ?toxic? trail of rank oil in its wake, fumes burn the eyes and lungs. Less aggressive, more avoidant of its kin.   Eye Colossus - third observed, dozen or more tentacle limbs, asymmetrical, random eyes all over body, no face. Rust red color, exterior textured like sandstone. Battled Star Colossus and lost, retreated badly wounded, one severed tentacle left behind.   Send word if you're still out there.
