Hymvari

Hymvari are the third race, and the first one to not need mana to survive. They are much shorter-lived than either elder race, less physically hardy and resilient, and much closer to animals - some of them even have patches of thin fur on their bodies. The Hymvari are considered a fluke (at best) or a mistake (at worst) by the elder races, as they have no innate link to any part of the world and drift across it like a stray breeze. They are sometimes referred to as driftwood, wisps, falling leaves, gnats, locusts--a thousand uncharitable words calling out their transient, often-nomadic, short-lived nature. Perhaps as a result of this, or just as a result of whatever innate nature they do have, the Hymvari are adaptable beyond other races in any situation, biome, and profession or study. They seem to enjoy sticking it to the elder races in terms of upsetting expectations and ignoring the foundations of “how we do things here.” They have built a considerable number of cultures and civilizations for ones so short-lived, though they absolutely utilize Aeldvaren magic and Duovaren architecture as stepping stones to develop their own. They are also the only warfaring prime race. (5.5’ - 6’ average, any build, average lifespan 100 years)

Interactions with Other Races

Hymvari have a deeply, deeply varied number of reactions to and relationships with Aeldvari. In almost equal amounts, Hymvari resent the obvious superiority of some Aeldvari (sun elves, usually) and idolize their longstanding culture and supreme command of magic. Hymvari are usually on very good terms with nearby wild elf tribes, though, since wild elves are much closer to Hymvari in lifespan and balanced-physical-and-magical outlook. Hymvari almost always enjoy proving themselves equal to or better than Aeldvari, either as a “sempai notice me!” or in spite of the Aeldvari’s pity.   Hymvari generally like Duovari, both because the Duovari treat them reasonably well and because the Duovari are builders and makers like the Hymvari strive to be. They understand the Duovaren mindset and appreciate what the Duovari can do and have done. The only tension comes from when a Hymvari kingdom goes to war in a place/way that can affect the Duovari, who (again) Do Not War.   Hymvari usually fear and respect the Urkvari. Hymvari may live a bit longer and have more complex cultures and technologies than the Urkvari, but Urkvari are formidable without any of those things, and Hymvari are keenly aware that, of the prime races, they are the physically weakest and least resilient. Some Hymvari develop alliances with some Urkvari, though, as fellow underdogs in the world.   Hymvari are the most seagoing of the landbound prime races, so they have the most frequent and casual relationship with the Nagvari. Hymvari have no idea how enormous the Nagvaren population and territories are, so they treat piecemeal with whichever Nagvaren communities or even individuals that they come across, and tend to be both fair and affable in their trade.
