Mother Gristlegums

The third of the three hag sisters that opposed Opal, Raina, and Ira on their adventures. She is an Annis Hag, making her nearly the size of a small Ogre. She had large, muscular arms, a huge hunched back covered in branches and deer skulls, and mouth that constantly dripped dark grease. Unlike her sisters, she had a strong accent, and tended to be more physically violent.
Gristlegums made her home in the Ogrekin swamp sometime after Granny Twigmouth's attempt to eat an infant Opal was thwarted by Earnest Bernaldt. To get revenge on the Bernaldt family, she slowly caused their decline over twenty-odd years. She cursed the land, causing the swamp to overgrow, crops to fail, and sickness and madness to spread. She also riled up the Ogres and Trolls the swamp took its name from, forcing the Bernaldt family to eventually stop their patrols of the area. She personally cursed David Bernaldt with sickness, causing him to slowly die, and murdered Damian Bernaldt's wife and son, as well as blinding and crippling him. She also kidnapped children and infected them with Red Hats that controlled them and turned them into violent monster children.
She worked briefly with Fir, who helped her invent Simulacrums out of mud, which she used to launch an attack on the Bernaldts house after Opal, Ira, and Raina arrived. Though she was betrayed by Fir, who stole the Star Stone she'd been hoarding.
She came into direct conflict with Opal, Ira, and Raina when they came to the Bernaldt estate, ordering her possessed children to assassinate her, and then attacking the Bernaldt Estate itself with her children. She kidnapped Jenna and David Bernaldt, leading to a confrontation in her swamp lair, where she was killed by the heroes.

Lair

Gristlegum's lair was in the center of the Ogrekin swamp, a deep sinkhole full of thick mud. In truth, the mud pit was a portal to the dark fey wild, where she had a small house containing much of the treasure she stole.
