Frillspeak

Frillspeak is the body language spoken mainly through saikkot head frills. The 18 visible primary frills are the focus, as they are most prominent and almost always visible, while the 4 topmost secondary frills act as additions and clarifications that are not always needed for understanding. The tail is also used in frillspeak, despite not being a frill. It can be used to add negative or positive connotations to what is being conveyed. The back and tail frills are the most minor bodyparts used in frillspeak, adding emphasis to the other frills or tail, but are often ignored or missed because of their much smaller size.

The instinctive part of frillspeak is universal, but the rest differs per region. For instance, it is instinctual that blood-filled frills signify warmer emotions such as anger or excitement, while lowered frills signify colder emotions like sadness or exhaustion.

Important Terms:

Arrangement:

  • Frill Dilation: The spreading of membrane in an individual frill. A fully dilated frill is as wide and shapely as it could be. A fully undilated frill is as thin and skinny as it could be.
  • Frill Swelling: The amount of blood pushed into an individual frill. A fully swelled frill will appear very red-tinted, while a frill that is the least swelled will be a dull version of the scale or skin color.
  • Frill Position: The position of individual or grouped frills. A fully extended position is when all frills are extended in an outwards position, making the saikkot look as bigger. A fully shrunk position is when all frills are flattened to the body as much as possible, making the saikkot look smaller.
  • Tail Stinger: The pose of the tail's stinger. An active stinger is pushed out of its sheath, while a dormant stinger is safely inside its sheath. A stinger is in the passive position if it is pointed towards the tail. A stinger will always be pointed away from the tail if active.

Base Poses

Base poses instinctual positions, based on emotions and physical wellbeing. In more complicated versions of frillspeak, they are the equivalent of words.

  • Anger
All frills are fully dilated and swelled, in a fully or near-fully extended position.
  • Confusion
Frills on one side of the head are extended moreso than the other side.
  • Fear
All frills are dull and mostly dilated. Primary principal frills are fully flattened. Major auxiliary frills are mostly or fully flattened. All other frills are at any flattened position.
  • Happiness
All frills are dilated and extended. Frills may be slightly swelled.
  • Sadness
All frills are dull and fully undilated, in a fully shrunk position.
  • This Is Imporant
Frills will be shook for emphasis of the current emotion or phrase. A larger shake is a larger emphasis.
