Garmr

The Night Wolf

The nights in Scytharia are especially dark and cold, almost supernaturally so. And in that darkness, slinking about in packs, are the faithful of Garmr, drooling at the thought of eating any hapless soul unlucky enough to be out in the dark. Garmr goads on attacks by wolves and any monster resembling them: winter wolves, dire wolves, worgs, wolfweres, even barghests.   Garmr is often assumed to be descended in some way from The Toothed God, but myths surrounding his creation are varied. In the inland logging towns and mining towns, it's taught that he and his archenemy Bjirrin were transformed from a wolf and a bear into divine beings by eating from the same patch of snow, bloodied by a wound inflicted on the Toothed God by Talil during a duel she lost. Garmr and Bjirrin then fought over the scraps of Talil's avatar, and have been enemies since.   In the bigger port towns, the story goes that Garmr was a primal wolf spirit that thrived so well in the cold and dark of Scytharia that he attained divinity, and Asta took on the aspect of a bear to create Bearfolk for the purpose of keeping his efforts in check.
