Thanamoi

Berserker Gnomes of the Noctabian Forests

The Thanamoi (also known as spriggans) are a race of gnomes from Noctabia. Being a minority group and also less politically active than the Nomoi, they have only recently begun asserting themselves on a national level, and after their civil war with the Nomoi, they've come to control the eastern half of Noctabia.
Generally dour and isolationist, the Thanamoi usually live in small communes that avoid contact with other races as much as possible. They prefer to live in dark, old-growth forests in small collections of huts and cottages.
Their predilection towards living in wilderness and away from large cities has left them more subject to attack by kobolds (the gnomes' ancient enemy) than their city-dwelling Nomoi cousins. This has left them less sympathetic to the plight of the kobolds who sought asylum in Noctabia, leading to the Noctabian civil war. The militant faction feels that the Nomoi toleration of the kobolds is just a final sign that they've lost their right to the position as stewards of the gnomish homeland.
Thanamoi gnomes have much paler skintones than the Nomoi. They're usually not fond of bathing, and their appearance reflects it. The males often sport thick, shaggy horseshoe mustaches. Their grungy clothing smells as foul as their tempers. An enraged Thanamoi is able to turn giant-sized at will, and it has been this ability that has allowed them to make gains in the civil war and slowly push back the Nomoi.
