The Emerald Clearing in the Northern Forest
The Emerald Clearing in the Northern Forest is a space among the dense trees formed naturally around a pool of water. The floor extends 600ft in radius from the centre of the pool. The tree canopy almost encloses the space above, allowing a column of light to descend and encourage the growth of wildflowers and other low-lying plants.
The inhabitants of the woodlands, the Elven kind and the Neko-kin use this shady space to meet in peace once per year, when the column of the suns rays fall directly into the pool, filling the glade with sparkling light.
The glade is also used for family and tribal ceremonies such as marriages and funerary rites, and any other times when a moot is called by the elves, the neko or both. Diplomatic visitors to the Northern Forests are welcomed here with formalities befitting the occasion.

Purpose / Function
The Emerald Clearing is a ceremonial location of great significance to the forest people. It is seen as a blessing from Chauntea, provided by her to allow meetings and celebrations in a beautiful open space, where none may be hidden by the dense trees.
Alterations
The clearing is never altered permanently by the forest people. Cutting of trees or plucking of plants is forbidden here and to kill any creature in the glade is severely scorned. When the glade is unoccupied, the creatures of the woods such as deer and wolves move through it freely, keeping the grass short and the ground free of carrion and other waste.
Architecture
The Emerald Clearing is not so much a structure as an absence of structure. The bowl-shaped space is almost made a complete sphere by the arching canopy of tress overhead. In the bottom of the hollow the clear, freshwater pool is fed by a semi-circular waterfall. The master of ceremonies stands atop the low overhangs from which the water tumbles, wreathing them in mist and ethereal rainbows.
There is no need to build upon the beauty of Nature
May this place ever remain a peaceful home for peaceful talk.
