Demands of the E.P.G.
From a letter written by the leader of the printers guild to the lords of each land in the 3100s. It is printed upon the purest white paper in rich golden ink in the standard Khat notation. Throughout the years copies have been made in the more rural tongues.
"Your graces, Recently our noble art has come under assault by charlatans and scoundrels. With more and more of these fraudsters setting up black market print shops within your very holdings. These rakes come to you spouting claims of high quality workmanship for fractions of the pricing, but when the product is paid for and the work "done" what you are left with is illegible and unusable. These conmen hide behind the agreement of sales and freedoms offered to merchants granted by your fine lands and the government that rules. They make a mockery out of your workers and your nobility, flaunting their ill-gotten gains in the face of hard working and long studied artists of the craft. This must be stopped, for you as much as for the common man. Our demands are these: 1: Records of business. Each new printer must be registered with their respective kingdoms or lands, as well as internationally through a newly founded Eskarinian Printers Guild. This is to prevent subversion of the following demands and create a group to enforce some of them. The judicial enforcement and punishments being left to each nation, with input from the E.P.G. 2: Requirement of education. Each person working in or for the registered printer must be schooled at a minimum of four years. Likewise, any school deeming to teach future printers must firstly be verified by a local representative of the E.P.G. These years of study may also be done beneath a licensed and approved member within a place of business, as many apprenticeships in other disciplines are done. This is to verify that the people being employed or conducting the work have the required knowledge to complete the task in a satisfactory manner. 3: Requirement of quality. A board appointed by the E.P.G. will determine the quality of workmanship of each printer. This quality control method will be conducted on a semi-annual basis at random. This is to ensure the printers are not changing products to something below the acceptable amount, determined by the E.P.G. Grades shall also be appointed to each product so as to prevent exuberant price fluctuation or attempted manipulation by nefarious groups. 4: Requirement of testing. After the initial study of four years, and each year after, A test shall be required of any persons claiming to be a printer. This test shall be given upon request and not something in which the E.P.G. shall remind the printer of. Failure to test should be punished in accordance to an agreement reached between the home nation and the E.P.G. This is to prevent those who have not reached sufficient knowledge of Khat notation and the operations of printers from touting some claim to the contrary. 5: Continued education. Each year every printer shall be required to spend one week within an approve course, in order to refresh and update the printers knowledge upon Khat notation and industry standards. This is to maintain the perfection and quality in craftsmanship set forth by the E.P.G. Failure to codify and enforce any of the demands into law within the region shall result in the immediate withdrawal of all printers from the land, the schools that teach the art shall refuse training to any individual from that land, and any printer shall refuse services to those from the land. This is not a threat or punishment to your graces only a measure taken to protect our sacred art from corruption. We hope you see the sensibility of the demands herein and we look forward to working with you to bring both profit and prosperity to the lands. - Diligent enforcer of the craft, Anthalicos Rentrimond II"
