Dragons
Basic Information
Anatomy
Two large scute covered legs protrude from the lower portion of an elongated body. Shield like plates run the length of the spine broken by bony spikes that crest each large plate. Thin arms sport large semi translucent flesh covered wings with a three clawed hand bisecting the wing.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dragons lay eggs in excess of 10 in a single instance and are capable of producing this amount of viable eggs monthly given mating opportunities.
Growth Rate & Stages
Commonly broken into 4 stages, Dragons have been seen at Infancy, adolescence, youth, and occasionally "adults" have been found. These periods each last for some as of yet irregular length of time but could be linked closely to the amount of food they consume. The age of these creatures has indirectly been linked to their intelligence.
Ecology and Habitats
Capable of living in most environments Dragons often favor and thrive in semi-wooded mountainous regions. The vast caves provide shelter while the wooded regions produce numerous food sources.
Dietary Needs and Habits
These creatures have been known to have ravenous appetites for any food source, often stripping fields bare of both flora and fauna. This is usually an instance of youth age dragons birthing more and having too limited intelligence to maintain any form of secrecy. It is not clear how much food is truely required by these creatures but it is theorized that it may
Biological Cycle
It is as of yet unclear about the sleep habits of these creatures though few if any have been seen in colder months. This implies some need for warmth to maintain thermal regulation. It is also unclear how long a Dragon could theoretically live but no bones or remains of dragons who have died of old age have been found.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dragons are born highly sensitive to light and usually remain within caves for a dozen years or more before emerging from the depths. Young Dragons hunt primarily through their keen eyesight at night and have little more capabilities in smell than humans. The exact capabilities of elder Dragons is not yet quantified as their heightened intelligence has made them somewhat reclusive. Some researchers suggest that the creatures can somehow see or sense aura. This cannot be tested however as it is also likely that they can simply see well in the dark.
Conservation Status
Hunted widely for its proclaimed usefulness in wholistic medicine, most young Dragons are killed before they can achieve more than feline intelligence.
