Master of Words

Beyond the trappings of the printers and E.P.G. The "true" literary minds follow a different path. At the end of this path lies the title of Master of Words. This title is achieved not through simple seniority or the amount in which one has studied. The honorific is instead passed to one who has made great waves in the literary community.   Because Master of Words is a singular title it is not easily attained. Only when the deeds one has preformed outweigh that of the previous master or, in the case of the inventor of Khat notation, their death is the title passed on. The merit of deeds are reviewed by previous masters or, in the case of no living master or a solitary master, it is reviewed by a comity of peers.   The comity is made up of several members of the community, including those directly opposed to the nominees. This allows for objectivity in selection and has proven so far to be consistently so. The primary concern within the community has been to avoid the possibility of somehow swindling the system. Because of this state of mind however, the title is seldom obtained.   Though the title is quite unique and prized it does not come with any direct prize, aside from certification of the title. It instead its most often used to gain further renown or a higher status. For example the last three recipients of the title each have gone on to teach at the Theshian Academy of Literature. The recipients often also receive publication of the work done which earned them this title. This publication often takes the form of hand illustrated and written copies of notes, journals, theses, and treatises. In one example where the recipient had developed a new Ghalem, the publication consisted of a detailed blueprint embossed over the cover of a rewritten journal which contained information about its invention.
