The Dead Swamp

Past the north eastern borders of Korelisin and just beyond the western mountains bordering the Hold'ir waste lies a swamp. This swamp is considered home to the last large remnants of the Rishad on the continent of Eskarina. Aside from being a swamp and otherwise not favorable ground for society the number of Rishad in various forms within this land is unlike that seen in hundreds of years. This has been the primary reason behind its unclaimed status among its neighboring regions. Where creatures like the Rishad live few other species can survive. This has given it its otherwise inaccurate name, The Dead Swamp. To be clear the previous inhabitants, or migrating animals, are not eaten, at least not in any significant way. This leads to a sickening contrast of bright green algae, deep fungal browns, and putrid spore yellows. The moss and water-vines grow through still rotting corpses and lead to a smell that not even the scavengers and carrion feeders would enjoy, if they could survive what lies in wait there. The Rishad population is so prevalent within this swamp that only the most fanatical or determined deign to venture there.
One such group is the Pyrelings, a religious fanatical group of Cairen worshipers who were driven into the region by political moves from both the Korelian nobles and Hound's Alliance. The Pyrelings, needing a location to practice their faith, were offered the location to preform their worship by the other civilizations, who were not wanting their cities burned. There the, at the time vast, members of the Pyrelings took to their "divine" task of purifying the Rishad. This is believed by many to be the only thing a Pyreling is good for. Within a few years membership in the group known as the Pyrelings became outlawed and the group was resigned to their new home. Within recent years the effects of that agreement can be seen, as the numbers of both the Rishad and Pyrelings have dwindled noticeably, at least those in the open. The Pyrelings still claim to have a vast membership while also requesting the aid of local militaries because of the ever growing Rishad threat.
