The Interstellar Energy Crisis

Also called "Universal Warming" by the public of Centarian Empire, Interstellar Energy Crisis (hence only IEC) was designated as the third species-wide threat by the half of 46th millennium.

Very much like with the global warming, the first catastrophe to endanger the whole mankind, IEC was very much overlooked for it's lack of immediate consequences by almost all governmental positions.

The IEC was theorized to exist as long ago as the end of the second millenium, based on the second law of thermodynamics, resulting in a "heat death" of the universe - a state of near absolute entropy, and loss of concentrated energy sources in the ever expanding cosmos. Since life as we know it relies upon acqisition of energy from external sources, and is not capable of perfect recyclacion in it's environment, it was widely agreed upon that such a state of the universe would not be compatible with the survival of species.

At the time though, most thought humanity would not survive next 5 thousand standard years, much less be endangered by events millions of years in future. This outlook slowly changed as the Centarian Empire endured another 42 millenia of existence. Many plans were devised to combat such events, including the construction of Station 27, later known as Zamoknya.

For all we know, however, none of them presented any true answer to the finality of human species, at best managing to postpone the inevitable.
