Wren
Librarian gone powerful warlock adventurer, what more can a Firbolg want?
Wren was gifted from an early age with lingual proficiency and great deductive prowess. This quickly made him a respected "librarian" at the spire of kings, the nation's primary library. Wren's reputation quickly made him the youngest sage the spire had seen in 300 years. Returned by a group of hired adventurers, it was about a month ago that the library was brought an angelic-looking book one day that nobody could understand. The few other sages all were dumbfounded by the unrecognizable scribbles in the tome. Wren, however, felt an immediate connection to the book and spent days and days pouring through it.
In the book Wren found ancient tales of Primordials, the Prime Celestials, and the first gods, a seeming endless source of long-lost information. Wren spent weeks reading the book, losing all necessity for sleep. Many of the stories revolved around Ichtaka, the rainbow Serpent, a deity of the before-times. Apparently though, Ichtaka wasn't killed entirely, because here, right in Wren's hands, her presence could still be felt on the planes.
Wren found that there was more than just information to learn from the book. One day when Wren was interrupted from his musings by his friend and superior High Diviner Jelenneth, he beckoned for her to close the door but instead summoned an enchanted hand that shut the door in his face. Embarrassed, Wren apologized to Jelenneth and together they found that that was not the extent of Wren's new-found powers.
The book spoke of a pact. In exchange for further blessings of Ichtaka and a chance to create his own destiny, the tome desires Wren to visit the Respit's Quarry. There Wren is to "open the door", kill Totec, the Rat King, who has defiled her place of worship. Any riches found there are for Wren to keep.
Encouraging Wren to go out in the world to fulfill his dreams and this envisioned role, Jelenneth sent three of the spire's watchers with Wren to ensure his safety until he is able to hire a group of adventurers to accompany him on this endeavor. Wren set off with his provisions of 2000 gold, his book, and his dreams.
Names in the book
Jean-Pierre Lebas de Fenelon-Chaussy d'Edouart
D'Edouart was once a prolific participant in Chaussy high-nobility as the heir to an immense fortune in land and riches both. He was a vile man. He married the fourth daughter of good King Richart, Aveline Chaussy. And committed a base atrocity to the Tsigani people. Now, d'Edouart is a conductor of trade and its secrets as leader of a subgroup of nobility, the Sanguine Syndicate. Along with his fellows Louis Robillard, Francois Imbert, and Basile Peltier, the Sanguine Syndicate pulls many strings in Chaussy. His ties to high-nobility and this shadow organization, make d'Edouart an immensely powerful creature. Echos in the aether exposed an echo of a magical message received by one of the four lives converging on d'Edouart. This message divulged plans to use d'Edouart to take control over the kingdom. Any creature with these ambitions is either a fool or poses a great risk to all in Chaussy. Seek out who received this message and stop their plans. D'Edouart is not an unreasonable creature, it would be devastating should he once again lose his moral compass, however little of that is keeping him at bay now.Keliope Helene
