High King Eamon against The Thirteenth Clan
The Conflict
Prelude
In the tumultuous First Era, the land was fractured among thirteen distinct clans. Each clan possessed its own customs, deities, and territories, often clashing over resources and honour.
High King Eamon and the Vision of Unity
A charismatic leader from the Clan of the Golden Fields, Eamon envisioned a unified realm where the clans could coexist in harmony. Recognizing the constant warfare's toll, he embarked on a campaign of diplomacy, seeking to unite the clans not through conquest but through mutual respect and shared prosperity. The Thirteenth Clan (The Clan of the Horned Stag)
The thirteenth clan inhabited the remote highlands and dense forests, living in harmony with nature and upholding ancient traditions. Their society was deeply spiritual, with a strong emphasis on shamanistic practices and reverence for the natural world. Known by his title rather than a personal name, the Horned King was both a warrior and a spiritual leader. He wore the iconic horned mask during ceremonies and in battle, symbolizing his role as the intermediary between his people and the natural spirits.Defiance Against Unification
The Horned King viewed Eamon's unification efforts with suspicion, fearing the loss of his people's autonomy and the dilution of their sacred customs. Despite multiple envoys and offers of alliance, he steadfastly refused to join the Kingdom of Thalor. Tensions escalated when emissaries were rebuffed, and border skirmishes began to occur between the thirteenth clan and neighboring territories.Deployment
Determined to unify all clans, High King Eamon saw no choice but to confront the Horned King's defiance militarily. The unified forces of the twelve clans marched toward the highlands, initiating a conflict that would test the resolve of both sides. The Horned King's intimate knowledge of the terrain allowed his warriors to conduct effective guerrilla tactics, surprising the larger armies of Thalor.
Outcome
The decisive battle occurred at Moonshadow Pass during the Month of the Blossom in the Year 128. Surrounded and outnumbered, the Horned King led his warriors in a fierce defence, hoping to turn the tide through sheer determination.
Accounts vary, but it is said that the Horned King and High King Eamon met in single combat. Despite his prowess, the Horned King was struck down. As he fell, a sudden gust of wind swept through the pass, and petals from the blossoming trees cascaded over the battlefield
Aftermath
With the Horned King's death, resistance crumbled. The thirteenth clan was absorbed into the Kingdom of Thalor, albeit with lingering resentment. The site of his death became a place of pilgrimage for those who honored his memory.
