The Litch Queen

The Lich Queen. Her tale is one of ambition, betrayal, and an unyielding thirst for power that led to her transformation into one of the most feared entities ever to walk the realm.   The Lich Queen’s tale serves as a grim reminder of the perils of unchecked ambition and the depths to which the pursuit of power can lead. It is a cautionary tale that the Imperium uses to educate its mages, a warning that even the greatest of talents can fall prey to the seduction of dark magic.

Personal history

The Lich Queen was once a woman named Erethia, a mage of extraordinary talent and ambition. She was born into a lineage steeped in arcane knowledge. She was driven, not just by the pursuit of magical prowess, but by a desire to transcend the limitations of her family legacy.   Erethia’s path took a dark turn when she was betrayed by her own sister, Emanatra. Driven by jealousy of her sister's prowess, Emanatra led Erethia into a trap under the guise of a powerful ritual that promised to unlock the secrets of eternal life. Instead, Erethia was subjected to a harrowing ordeal, her life force drained until she teetered on the brink of death.     But death was not to claim Erethia so easily. In her darkest moment, her will to survive tapped into the darker aspects of the arts of necromancy. The energies she unleashed were catastrophic and transformative, binding her soul to her decaying body and birthing the entity known as the Lich Queen. Her body forming her own phylactery.    As the Lich Queen, Erethia’s wrath was unbound. She rose from the ashes of betrayal, her form now a grotesque mirror of her former beauty, twisted by the dark magic that sustained her. She wielded her necromantic powers with a cruelty that was both precise and devastating. All the members of her family, both close and extended fell before her, heroes perished in their attempts to halt her march, and the very land seemed to wither under her gaze.   The Lich Queen’s rule was marked by an era of darkness. She commanded legions of the undead, her necropolis a bastion of despair from which her influence spread like a plague. Her name became synonymous with death, and her legacy was one of fear and sorrow.   However, as time passed Erethia's desire changed from the pursuit of recent to a longing for quiet peace. She banished herself and her necropolis from the plane of Mid-Realm. Where she now resides is unknown, however she is certainly still alive in her perpetual undeath.
