"There exists a tale of the beginning of goblins. Some say that they have always existed or that they came from cursed beings doomed to live their lives as greedy, ugly, little gremlins who care only for material wealth. This, of course, is utter poppycock! The origin of goblins is a simple tale that i will tell you. Sit back now, and i will regale with the tale of how these little greenies came to be.
A long time ago there was a little girl by the name of Daisy. She was an average girl by most accounts except that she loved to collect shiny things. Buttons, coins, gems, metals, glass, and other such objects all fell into her collection. So vast came her collection that she began to learn the elegant art of pick pocketing. She stole a great many treasures before she finally picked the wrong pocket.
Daisy was walking the street one day when she placed her hand in the pocket of a passerby. She pulled out a small onyx statuette and deftly placed it in her own pocket. Not seeing many other prospects, and really wanting to examine her ill-gotten onyx statue, Daisy called it an early day and studied her daily goods. To her horror, the statue was far from beautiful. Daisy could see a long pointy nose and large beady eyes. Hands that more resembled claws than actual hands. Feet that were long and skinny with toes to match. Teeth that were as sharp and pointy as they were numerous. Truly this was a terrifying being to behold.
As soon as Daisy began examining these terrifying details, she began to notice the changes in herself. Her hands turned to smalls claws. Her feet grew smaller, yet longer in shape. Her skin turned green and her teeth grew numerous and pointy. Daisy shrank roughly to the size of a gnome. This is the curse that she had suffered from stealing from a witch. Let this be a lesson for those who would chose such a path in life." - Old Storyteller Agatha
This is the legend of the very first goblin. Those of a scientific or intellectual mindset will tell you that this is a complete and total falsehood.
