Alarune

An alarune is a hybrid of a human and plant.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The shape of an alarune is humanoid, but their bodies are composed partially of plant material. Their "hair" typically resembles grass and/or flowers.   Alarunes have various bioaerosols that can be propelled from various points on their bodies. Their effects include:

Genetics and Reproduction

Alarunes reproduce sexually, and are hermaphrodites. The classification of their reproductive method is the subject of much debate.

Growth Rate & Stages

An alarune child spends three months gestating within the mother, then an "egg" resembling a very large seed is laid. This seed is planted and cared for like a normal plant for about six more months until the child is born. After the child is born, it spends two and a half years in the soil it was planted in before developing legs and beginning to walk. During this time, it requires photosynthesis as well as food for nutrition.

Ecology and Habitats

Alarunes often live in the wilderness, though some have begun moving into cities. Alarune in cities often decorate their residences with large amounts of plants, both inside and outside.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Alarunes can receive nutrition from eating food like other races, as well as from photosynthesis, and are capable of going long periods of time with only one or the other.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Alarunes have an above average sense of smell, and are otherwise average.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Most parasites that use other humanoid races as hosts avoid alarunes because of their plant-like physiology.

Civilization and Culture

Gender Ideals

Despite being hermaphrodites, alarunes are typically referred to as female. This is because alarunes were originally designed to resemble humanoid females, and most still do.

Relationship Ideals

Alarunes are typically monogamous.

Average Technological Level

Most of their technology is somewhat archaic. However, alarune botanists are quite impressive, with some being able to actually grow structures.

History

The first alarunes, who were named Solana and Asterid, were created by Melchior and Riah.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Some people of other races assume that alarunes are uncomfortable with the idea of eating plants. In most cases, this is untrue.
Lifespan
150-200 years
