Black Widows
History
The Black Widows were an all-female group of Aranea serial killers that were active from 1461 to 1473. Their modus operandi was to travel to a town, kidnap multiple men, then rape, kill, and eat them. They then displayed the skeletons in webs placed in a prominent location, typically the town square. Afterwards, they would travel to a different town and repeat the process. They successfully did this for twelve years.
The actions of this group partially contribute to current negative misconceptions about Aranea.
Disbandment
Their downfall came when one of the men they kidnapped happened to be a member of an adventuring party that was taking some time off at the local inn. When one of them failed to return to the inn, the others investigated. They found the place that the Black Widows were using as a hideout, an abandoned warehouse, just before the Widows began. The resulting conflict eventually drew the attention of the local guards, who arrived at the building after the adventurers had already left. All they found was four terrified former prisoners and five Aranea women, mangled almost beyond recognition.
