First Divinity

The First Divinity created the world, then splintered into smaller divine forces that governed the natural forces of the world and spawned the first of the deities that are around today.
The circumstances surrounding this event are the subject of some debate. Most people believe that this was the correct course of events, and that there is nothing left of the First Divinity. However, the Church of the First believes that the splintering was never supposed to happen, and that there is a piece of the First left that will eventually reabsorb all divine power in the world.
What would actually happen if the First Divinity returned is unknown. However, some people believe that such a powerful being cannot actually exist, and that is the reason that it fractured in the first place. This theory is unproven, but is popular among many theologians and scientists.
