The Blossom Fortress
In Inkonai the central fortress has been there for a very long time. It is a massive complex with an outer wall and the castle portion within that. A large part of the courtyard is dedicated to an extensive and ancient cherry blossom orchard. It has been taken care of no matter who occupied the fortress. It blooms every year in a grand fashion filling the castle and the city with cherry blossoms for about a month. It is a pilgrimage for many people in Zhen Gho to visit the Blossom Fortress, as it has been named since Inkonai has been under the banner of the Republic. When people think of iconic places within Zhen Gho the Blossom Fortress is one of them.
Purpose / Function
The primary purpose of the fortress is for protection. It was built to withstand great sieges and attack back in kind. However the orchard was planted by the second Lord of Inkonai, unnamed in history now. He planted it as a gift to his wife. She had complained about only having a view of the construction of the city. He then surprise her by planting the cherry blossoms so she would have more to look at it.
Alterations
The only alterations that have been done to the Blossom Fortress are increase in sizes and general changes. Each Lord, and in later years Governors, have added to the Orchard in some way. Most have simply added more trees to the orchard. Others have in fact changed or updated the format and layout. There are several gazebos and even small greenhouses within the grounds.
Architecture
The main architecture of the Blossom Fortress is ancient pre-founding building. It is based on the use of layers of hardened wood to create greater than metal resistance, with less of the cost and effort. Along with that sliding doors and windows are used throughout. This same style is very evident in the Orchard as well. It helps to showcase and contain the trees and other plants with a gorgeous walkway throughout the entire area.
Defenses
The Orchard doesn't contain any defenses. However the Fortress itself has ample defenses as any fortress would. It has a number of catapaults that can be deployed if needed. Along with that murder holes throughout for archers to rain down upon enemies. It also has reinforced walls of wood and in key places iron as well. However there has not been a siege on Inkonai for hundreds of years. And with the double set of walls around the city it is very unlikely that any siege would make it to the fortress.
Tourism
Everyday many pilgrims come to Inkonai to visit and marvel at the Cherry Blossom Orchard. There are tours done of the fortress itself, but just in acceptable places. But more people come to walk the orchard, meditate under the lightly falling blossoms, and get art pieces associated with the Blossom Fortress. It is a highly lucrative business for Inkonai bringing in much income, but also a level of culture and prestige that place the City as one of the top capitals of Zhen Gho.
