Palace of Saron

Academics often debate the details of humanoid survival through the War of the Scourge. The existence of ancient kingdoms throughout the conflict has fueled historical research and debates for millennia. When the Scourge tore through Varia, sundered civilizations in their wake, how then could any major geopolitical bodies survive contact, much less defend their very existence, for purported centuries? Scholars have argued for many answers, the most of which have been magic, the intervention of divine entities, and the inherent direction provided by exceptionally talented leaders—as modernity has often attributed Avon's survival to King Avalon's leadership. . .   However, a dark horse among these factors originates, in part, from the efforts of civilizations in the First Era: infrastructure. Discoveries from ancient ruins, dated to the times prior to the Scourge, attest to advanced architectural techniques and structural organization meant to accommodate technologies beyond the capabilities of even modern Varian civilizations. Survival through the War may have only been possible through such a presumed basis. The more pristine records of the kingdom of Avon detail a pristine example of First Era infrastructure in the Palace of Saron, the effective cornerstone of ancient Avon's capital, and the site for some of the most pivotal moments—of both success and failings—during the War of the Scourge.

The Palace of Saron was a major structure located in the city of Saron, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Avon. Though labeled as a palace, physical measurements based on Avonian records estimate that its size spanned the entirety of the city. It served as the birthplace of King Avalon, the political and spiritual heart of the kingdom, and the headquarters of the Varian Coalition. During Zivier's betrayal, the palace fell to ruin under hordes of Scourge. In the present day, the location of its ruins remains unknown.
