History of the Faith

Origins of Unity The Life of Saint Levitt

Stefan Levitt, Prophet of the Tenfold Faith, also known as Saint Levitt, is a central figure in the history of the Golden Seas region and the religious movement known as the Tenfold Faith. His teachings, missionary work, and vision of a unified pantheon have left an indelible mark on the spiritual and cultural landscape of the Golden Seas.

Early Life:

Stefan Levitt was born in the village of Rouen at the base of the Cornlinet Range, situated on the shores of a serene lake. He came from humble beginnings, with no indication that he would one day become a renowned prophet. His early life in the small, tranquil village was characterized by simplicity and a deep connection to the natural world that surrounded him.

The Calling: A Profound Spiritual Journey

The life of Stefan Levitt, was forever altered by an extraordinary experience—an event that has been both celebrated and debated throughout the centuries. This pivotal moment in his life, known as "The Calling," took place during his extensive travels through the diverse regions of Aurorastra, Thalassia, and Equinoxia. Although the exact nature of this experience remains shrouded in faith and reverence, it is a fundamental aspect of his life and legacy.

A Voyage of Spiritual Discovery:

Stefan Levitt embarked on his journey with a simple and profound goal—to explore the rich tapestry of faiths and beliefs that characterized the region. His travels took him through sprawling cities, serene villages, ancient forests, and bustling trade ports, where he encountered a multitude of cultures, ancestries, and religious practices. His inquisitive nature led him to engage with spiritual leaders, clerics, and laypeople from different walks of life, all with their unique interpretations of the divine.

The Mystical Encounter:

During a moonlit night in the heart of Equinoxia, while meditating beside a tranquil lake, Levitt claimed to have undergone a spiritual transformation. The specifics of the encounter, which he held closely to his heart and shared sparingly with the faithful, are often the subject of speculation. Some believe he communed directly with the divine, while others interpret the event as a profound revelation brought on by his deep contemplation.

Divine Inspiration:

What is clear, however, is that Stefan Levitt emerged from this experience with an unwavering conviction and a vision of unity and harmony among the diverse faiths of the Golden Seas. He felt inspired by an unseen force, a divine presence that transcended the boundaries of individual faiths and ancestries. It was as if the very elements of the natural world had whispered their secrets to him, imparting wisdom and understanding of a higher truth.

A Unifying Vision:

The Calling left Levitt with a profound belief that the pantheon of deities worshiped by the various ancestries was not a source of division, but rather an interconnected and harmonious system. He saw the gods as aspects of a greater, all-encompassing divine presence. This insight laid the foundation for the Tenfold Faith, with its pantheon of ten gods, each representing unique aspects of existence, elements, and natural forces.

Legacy and Canonization:

After his death, Levitt was posthumously recognized as Saint Levitt for his significant contributions to the faith and his role as a unifying figure. He is venerated as the prophet who brought the Tenfold Faith into the lives of the faithful and laid the foundation for a more inclusive and harmonious spiritual tradition.   Saint Levitt's legacy continues to influence the religious, cultural, and political landscape of the Golden Seas, where the Tenfold Faith remains the dominant religion. His teachings of unity and interconnectedness, as exemplified in the Tenfold Faith, have left an enduring mark on the region and its people.

Spread of the Faith

Stefon Leavitt's mission came to an end around 7595 BCE, after which he resettled in Rouen. The prophet passed away in 7589 BCE, and his final resting place became the epicenter of the faith he had championed. His tomb was transformed into the main cathedral of the Tenfold Faith, a testament to the profound impact of his teachings on the future of Zentrum.

Rouen's Transformation:

Stefan Levitt's mission and teachings sparked a religious and cultural transformation in the Golden Seas region. The small village of Rouen, at the base of the Cornlinet Range, where he had spent his early years, would later evolve into a thriving city, largely due to the establishment of the Tenfold Faith as the region's primary religion. Levitt's tomb, built around his resting place, became the central cathedral of the Tenfold Faith.

Challenges and Conflicts

Around 6921 BCE, the First Inquisitorium was initiated by the Tenfold Faith. This operation aimed to suppress the worship of Nara, the catfolk goddess of freshwater and the moon. Despite some resistance, it culminated in the destruction of the Temple of Nara in the Duneshift Desert in 6912 BCE. This marked a pivotal moment in the adoption of the Tenfold Faith among the catfolk, although it was seen as a partial acceptance, with worship centers mainly used by outsiders traveling with catfolk caravans.   Notably, the Second Inquisitorium emerged in 4213 BCE, targeting an attempt to revive the old elven pantheon known as The Triarchy. This pantheon consisted of Temporiana, Eidolon, and Aergria and was integrated into the Tenfold Faith by a group of elvish nobles from Kalliroe seeking to reestablish the old ways. The Triarchy Renaissance saw some success but was crushed in 4201 BCE by the Inquisitorium, which laid siege to Kalliroe, demanding the surrender and an end to the Renaissance effort.   The Tenfold Faith's history is not also one of succes. TheThird Inquisitorium, which took place from 3716 BCE to 3706 BCE. This Inquisitorium was aimed at ending the Khanate of Xuan-Ra and the monotheistic traditions of the orcish people. It sought to replace these traditions with the beliefs of the Tenfold Faith. The Third Inquisitorium lasted a decade but ended with those fighting for the Tenfold returning home, abandoning the campaign. The Tainzun Khan, leader of the orcish Khanate, proclaimed his victory in 3706 BCE, maintaining the traditions of the Khanate.

The Era of the Tenfold

The importance of the Tenfold Faith was further solidified when the calendar transitioned to the current Era. This era began with the "Rouen Consecration" when Emperor Redolphe Jacquinot of United Aurorastra made a significant deal with the Primus Pontifex of the Tenfold Faith. In exchange for the official donation of Rouen and the surrounding farmlands to the Church, the Faith consecrated Jacquinot's family as the rightful rulers of the lands of Aurorastra. The Faith now held a significant stake in the ruling powers of Zentrum.

Tenets of the Faith

The Afterlife in the Tenfold Faith

In the Tenfold Faith, the belief in the afterlife is a central tenet that guides the moral conduct of its adherents. According to this faith, the fate of individuals after death depends on their devotion and moral actions during their lifetime. Here is an overview of the afterlife beliefs in the Tenfold Faith:

Devotion to a Chosen God

In the Tenfold Faith, practitioners are encouraged to choose one of the ten gods as their primary patron. This choice reflects their personal affinity and the values they wish to uphold in life. Devotees revere and pray to their chosen god, seeking guidance and protection.

Living a Moral Life

Living a moral and virtuous life is of paramount importance in the Tenfold Faith. Adherents believe that their actions, deeds, and choices in life are a testament to their devotion to their chosen god. Upholding the virtues associated with their patron deity is seen as a means to secure a favorable afterlife.   Bywyd, the Creator and god of life, is considered the source of life and the guide of great passions in the Tenfold Faith. Adherents believe that Bywyd's divine gifts are not limited to those who follow the faith. His influence extends to all living creatures, and these gifts include the innate capacity for goodness and compassion.   Individuals who have not been exposed to the teachings of the Tenfold Faith are believed to be guided by the calling of goodness within them. This innate sense of morality and the choices they make in life, driven by their conscience, play a significant role in their judgment.

Afterlife Destinies

The Tenfold Faith teaches that after death, adherents go to live with the god they chose to venerate, provided they have led a virtuous and ethical life in accordance with the values of that deity. This is considered a reward for their unwavering faith and their commitment to embody the principles of their chosen god. It is believed that individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof, are ultimately judged by the character of their heart. This means that one's moral conduct, actions, and the inherent goodness within them are central factors in determining their fate in the afterlife. The emphasis is placed on the innate moral compass that exists within all creatures.   The Tenfold Faith acknowledges that salvation is not limited to its own followers. It extends the opportunity for a favorable afterlife to all individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs, based on their adherence to the principles of goodness, compassion, and ethical conduct. This reflects the faith's inclusive perspective and recognition of the intrinsic worth of all living beings.   In essence, those who did not hear the message of the Tenfold Faith are not excluded from the possibility of a positive afterlife. Instead, their judgment is based on their innate sense of morality and their commitment to following the calling of goodness that exists within them, in accordance with the gifts Bywyd has given to all intelligent creatures divine gifts.

Xuan-Ra, the God of Endings:

Plays a crucial role in the afterlife beliefs. It is believed that individuals who do not maintain a good and moral life, or those who abandon their chosen patron god, face a different fate. Xuan-Ra is tasked with the role of judging the souls of the deceased. Those found wanting or morally bankrupt have their souls destroyed, leading to eternal oblivion.

Continued Relevance

Despite these challenges and conflicts, the Tenfold Faith continues to thrive in the diverse world of Zentrum. Its followers seek to maintain balance, cooperation, and respect for the equal but distinct domains of the Tenfold deities. With their cathedrals adorned with stunning mosaics and their congregations celebrating the harmonious presence of the gods, the Faith remains a significant cultural and religious force in the Golden Seas

The Ten-Pointed Star

The Ten-Pointed Star, known by various names such as the Holy Coat of Arms or the Holy Seal, stands as a powerful and unifying symbol within the Tenfold Faith. Its origins can be traced back to the early sketches drawn by Stefan Levitt, the Prophet of the Tenfold Faith, who sought to visually represent the interconnectedness of the ten gods.   With its ten distinct points, each corresponding to one of the gods within the Tenfold pantheon, symbolizes the unity and harmony that Stefan Levitt envisioned among the diverse faiths and ancestries of the Golden Seas. It serves as a reminder that, while each god represents unique aspects of existence, they are all part of a greater, interconnected divine presence.   Champions and defenders of the Tenfold Faith often proudly emblazon the image of the Ten-Pointed Star on their shields and armor. This act serves not only as a physical display of their faith but also as a declaration of their dedication to the ten gods and the unity they represent. In times of conflict and strife, the Ten-Pointed Star becomes a symbol of hope and unwavering resolve.   This sacred symbol plays a significant role in the Tenfold Faith, adorning holy documents with a simplified wax seal of the Ten-Pointed Star. When the faithful encounter this seal, they recognize it as an emblem of the Church, signifying the authenticity and sanctity of the communication. It is a mark of approval, a blessing, and a connection to the divine.   Over the centuries, the depiction of the Ten-Pointed Star has evolved and adapted. From its humble beginnings in Saint Levitt's initial sketches, it has grown into a symbol of great significance, bearing the weight of faith and unity. Its enduring presence in the religious iconography of the Tenfold Faith continues to inspire the faithful and remind them of the interconnectedness of the divine and the importance of harmony among all people.
