Elf

The elves of Zholmyr are deeply in tune with the flow of primal energy and the subtle ways it influences and shapes the world around them. Their magic is inspired by nature and in turn they inspire others, offering a vision of the quintessence that is elegant, efficient, and harmonious. Only in rare cases do elves take part in the new geopolitics of the world. Zholmyran Elves are largely split into three factions. The Oppidan elves are the ones most regularly seen by others, as they do not shun cities or the company of other races. They are known for their gregariousness and alluring nature. The high elves prefer to dwell in their own fantastical conclaves, focusing on their magic and the interplay of mortals and the fabric of nature. The wood elves have shunned urbanism and technology completely, choosing to withdraw into the unclaimed wilderness of Zholmyr and guard it from conquest--often ferociously.   The elves of Zholmyr are generally deeply in tune with the flow of energy and the subtle ways it influences and shapes the natural world. Their magic offers a vision of the quintessence that is elegant, efficient, and harmonious. Only in rare cases do elves take part in the new geopolitics of the world.

Slender and Graceful

With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races. They can range from under 5 feet tall to over 6 feet. They are more slender than humans, weighing only 120 to 180 pounds. Males and females are about the same height, and males are only marginally heavier than females.   Elves’ coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, bronze, and almost bluish-white, hair of green or blue, and eyes like pools of liquid gold or silver. Elves have no facial and little body hair. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors, and they enjoy simple yet lovely jewelry.

A Timeless Perspective

Elves can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, elves can be focused and relentless. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and to serious insults with vengeance.   Like the branches of a young tree, elves are flexible in the face of danger. They trust in compromise to resolve differences before they escalate to violence. They have been known to retreat from intrusions into their woodland homes, confident that they can simply wait the invaders out. But when the need arises, elves reveal a stern martial side, demonstrating skill with sword, bow, and strategy.

A Growing Family Tree

The elves all trace their lineage back to a sole ancient race. But today, three distinct factions have diverged in very different directions--both culturally and geographically. The Vila are the ones most regularly seen, as they do not shun cities and the company of other races, instead enjoying the prospect of taking part in the multi-faceted world. The high elves of the Ilbryen faction instead dwells in their own conclaves, focusing on their magic and the interplay of mortals and spirits. The wood elves of the Chaelith faction have shunned urbanism and technology completely, choosing to withdraw into the unclaimed wilderness of Zholmyr.

Elven Subraces

Vila

The vila are elves that have openly embraced the urban lifestyle among other mortal races. They are strikingly beautiful and relish the power their good looks have over their many non-elven suitors. They have pale white/pink skin and platinum blonde hair. Their eyes are usually silver, yellow, or ice blue. In the great cities of Zholmyr, vila make up a noticeable portion of elite circles and they relish in climbing the social ladder. Vile are usually friendly to others, but they can take horrible revenge on those who insult them or disregard their station.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Noble Weapon Training

You have proficiency with rapiers, shortswords, and hand crossbows.

Spiritual Instability

Your urban path has brought you further away from the elves' natural connection to the quintessence. While normally pristine and polished, you are prone to momentary emotional outbursts. Once per turn, the DM can have you roll a d20 immediately after you exhibit a very strong showing of anger, jealousy, vindictiveness or despair (others at the DM's discretion). If you roll a 1, roll on the Wild Magic Surge table to create a magical effect. If that effect is a spell, and if it normally requires concentration, it doesn’t require concentration in this case; the spell lasts for its full duration.

High Elf

The high elves of the Ilbryen have a keen mind and a mastery of magic. They choose to live amongst themselves away from the hustle and bustle of other races, but they keep a careful finger on the pulse of world affairs and are always ready to offer their arcane talents to keep the cogs of Zholmyr spinning. They have pale alabaster skin sometimes tinged with blue. They often have hair of black or blue, but various shades of deep brown, and red are not uncommon. Their eyes are blue or purple and flecked with gold.

Cantrip

You know one cantrip of your choice from the wizard spell list. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for it.

Extra Language

You can speak, read, and write one extra language of your choice.

Wood Elf

The wood elves of the Chaelith have keen senses and intuition, and their fleet feet carry them quickly and stealthily through their native forests. They have watched with distaste as their elven brethen have forsaken the ancient ways and become more entwined with the enterprises of other races. Wood elves’ skin tends to be copperish in hue, sometimes with traces of green. Their hair tends toward browns and blacks, but it is occasionally blond or copper-colored. Their eyes are green, brown, or hazel

Fleet Feet

Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.

Mask of the Wild

You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.

Elf Traits

Your elf character has a variety of natural abilities, the result of thousands of years of elven refinement.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Alignment

Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others’ freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not.

Size

Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
