Loviatar is worshipped across the world in various forms and practices yet the Scourge Mistress's followers are little liked in the civilised world. They find their place as gaolers and torturers for Lords and Ladies where their practised hands can be put to use extracting information from the enemies of the nobility. Of course these skills can also be put to use for more nefarious organisations, though the teachings of the goddess of pain are not so compatible with the workings of a more subtle spy.
The goddess herself is often mistakenly aligned with the idea of sexuality due to the proclivities of some more deviant fetishists. This may be as one of the more profitable careers a lower level follower can attain is that of dominatrix. The Taloned Tankard in Tristromm is a fine example of those who cause pain to bring pleasure, or so I am told.
