Royal Griffin
The largest of all griffins, the Royal griffin stands some fifteen feet at the shoulder. Its body is akin to that of a giant feline and the head of a eagle, though the horns and fatherless face give it an appearance closer to that of a dragon. Its wings and tail are covered in multicoloured plumage.
Royal griffins make their nests upon mountaintops and range out into the lowlands for hunts. Typically they hunt only giant beasts but should a griffin be going hungry they will snap up any humans they come across and none but the most experienced of monster hunters have any chance of surviving such an encounter. On occasion a royal griffin's nest has been stumbled upon and should their be an egg within it, a call will go out for monster hunters far and wide to retrieve the egg and slay the parents (to leave the parents alive would be for anyone who came into come into contact with the egg to be hunted down until the parents can retrieve the egg). A royal griffin egg is amongst the most valuable objects in this world and the reward for such an accomplishment is enough to be lord of an not insignificant portion of land.
Royal griffins are found all across the known world though they are exceedingly rare to come across.
Their bodies typically range through greys, black and browns but their plumage can be an exotic mix of blues, reds, greens, black and white, each being unique to that griffin.
