Waystones

Across our world are dotted places of magical power, some are known of such as the Fountain in the centre of The Heart of the Woods whilst others are still unknown, such as the waystone shrine in the centre of a lake in northern Yvres that was up until recently only a local myth.
These sites of power connect our world to other planes allowing some of their innate magic to spill into the weave of our world.
The number of waystones present in the world was unknown for a number of years until the destruction the known waystone on Truda by Tzarina Anastasia. An artifact of mystra had been collecting dust in the vaults of the College of Magic in Tristromm, a small glass orb with small dancing lights inside. When the monthly inventory was taken by the dusty old scholars they found that where there was once fourteen motes of light floating within it, now there were thirteen. The college had records of the artifact going back generations and no change had been noted and thus it was decided that each mote of light was a waystone somewhere on Zirael.
