Kol Faldur
Centuries ago, the high monarch of Doredian had sent out envoys to a dwarven clan known as the Ironskars that was discovered in the early years of the nation. They had existed just outside of the Fractured Highlands for longer than most other civilizations of the area. Surprisingly these dwarves had arrived to the area through the underground and explored the region, finding it much more suitable to build a home above ground. For a time, these dwarves, who had been a lot more peaceful before the arrival of the monarchy of Doredian, developed rather quickly in response to the a greater population of dragonkind in the region. This clan took on this challenge by becoming hunters and slayers of these magical beasts. Unfortunately, this clan of dragonslayerd was not strong enough to repel the expansion of the Doredian Nation. It was at this moment when a great and devastating battle was fought on what is now known as The Fallen Moores, with the Ironskar Dwarves attempting to halt the advance of the Doredian Nation. Unfortunately, some of the native dragonkind in the area had been tamed by a powerful noble family of Red Dragonborn. It was this family, known as The Bhavroths, that led the greatest army of enslaved humanoids and dragon riders against the dragon slayer dwarves. Unfortunately, the clan was heroically defeated on the field of battle, and the settlements were occupied by Bhavroths and their forces. Dragon-King Kralxis saw these dwarves as useful after their war and spared their lives. In exchange, the dwarfs were forced to construct a stronghold of a city to expand the borders of the growing Doredian Nation. After several hundred years, the city has grown with the arrival of travelers from other civilizations and has also increased in its power. There were several attempts made by the Ironskars to rebel and liberate the city, but to no avail.
Today, the Doredian Nation rules Kol Faldur by means of an imposed Lord by the name of Voldred Durkax, a Red Dragonborn who seems to govern with a militaristic, iron fist, taking commands and governmental policies from the Dragon-King. The city is now filled with a mixture of humans, dwarves, Dragonborn, and a scant few gnomes and Halflings.
Districts
Brightbidge:
This district was developed around a magnificent architectural achievement of the region: The Brightbridge. It is a massive Topaz-based bridge that shines in the light of the sun. During the construction of the city, a rebellion had formed as a last effort against The Bhavroths. This rebellion victory stemmed on the ability for the dwarves to cross the Stonecord River. It was during this city battle that a great geomancer wizard had created a bridge to get the Ironskar dwarves and their allies across to the center of Bhavroths control. After this battle, the city of Onryx was liberated, but only for a short time. Surprisingly the bridge was never taken down, even after the Bhavroths’ attempts to destroy it. It stands vigilant to this day, and a great many dwarves live around the bridge. Brightbridge is home to the artisans of dwarves and several gnomes that keep up shops throughout the city
Castle District:
this part of the city is home to a mixture of mostly Dragonborn, humans and elves. It is where the rulers of the city make their home, and govern the populace with watchful eyes. The significant military presence also resides here, and there are multiple different prisons, barracks, high lord houses, and reinforced internal walls. The Castle itself is the largest building and rests on the highest part of the city. It corners contain triangular bastions where several cross-breed dragons act as The Watch.
The Longwalk:
this part of the city is known to be one of the most depressing and mournful. This is where the execution of many humanoids have taken place in the past and is still in use. It is a long road that travels slowly up towards to Fractured Highlands, until it abruptly ends at a massive Guillotine forged out of the bones of dragons. It is here where the sentences are carried out against humanoids (mostly dwarves) who have committed crimes against the Doredian Nation.
North Quarter:
this district is where much of the cities industry is located. Many of the mining operating that take place in the lowlands just south of The Fractured Highlands usually send their product here for production of goods. Blacksmiths, weaponsmiths, armorers, tinkerers, dragonhoarders, and experimentalists work day and night in this district, constantly refining their products for the betterment of the Lords
Goldengate:
many of the city’s breweries, inns, shops, and the like are located here. The most popular of them being known as Goldengate Tavern, where a famous descendent of a general of the Ironskars sells the highest quality and most traditional ales and spirits. Many come from far and wide to take part in the consumption of this rare alcohol, which is said to have some of the rare magical components of dragons mixed in, giving the consumer a wide variety of flavors and possible effects
South Quarter:
this part of the city is where a decent amount of the populace lives. Most of the residents live in sturdy, reinforced stone homes that are just large enough to support a family. Many of the more famous or successful workers live.
The Rings:
most of the serfs and villiens that work endlessly for the Bhavroths live here. Many of those that work cannot afford even a simple room to sleep in, so many live in camps and try desperately to find any type of comfort they can. The workers are a mixture of races, seeing as these Red Dragonborn have taken upon themselves to not only rule the entire nation, but to make sure that no one else can take their place.
