Vildra and Vesna, The Twins of Wessar
Backstory:
Long ago, on the world of Zycore, there existed a powerful empire of Spellscales that ruled over much of the southern portion of the Ashunian Archipelago. Not only was this race of creature native to the area, but had such a deep understanding of the usage of Zycore (the mineral), that they were able to create magical and technological marvels. Such a people as the Spellscales were benevolent and peaceful, only seeking to connect with the other races of the archipelago and expand their knowledge of the natural and supernatural worlds. From this empire was born two twins of a powerful noble family, known as the Trineskians. The first twin that came to be was known as Vildra Trineskian. Then came Vesna Trineskian. Both were born at near the same time, only minutes before or after each other. On that night, the four moons of Zycore had aligned, and the Olios Celebration had begun. Though this event only comes once every 25 years, it was felt everywhere, all over Zycore. Peace and prosperity reigned supreme on that day and night. No wars or battles were fought, all wicked deeds came to a halt, and all felt the joy and wonder of the world and the wild space above it. However, something changed on that night. While the sky was blazoned with aurora-like lights of every color of the spectrum, only two steadfast rays (or storms) of light were shown. One was a deep red, and the other a violet purple. These lights in the sky also did not remain as a dancing spectacle as normal, but rather were transformed into two massive, continent-sized eastern-dragons (known as darkellions). As the people of the archipelago watched in excitement, the Spellscales looked on in fear, as these two mighty aurora-born creatures clashed. As they did, they created an immense supernatural storm (known as the storm of incarnum) that tore through island after island and city after city. Though it did not cause the destruction of the Spellscale Empire, many were killed and some of the islands were physically altered forever.
After that incredible and horrible day, the twins were raised in the Spellscale Empire’s capital of Tharkellin. Many of the people of the High Draconic Court that ruled over Wéssar (the empire) treated the twins with fear, disdain, hatred, and skepticism. Even their Father had begun to disown them, no matter what they did. Only their mother fought long and hard against the people and her husband to safeguard her daughters. While they were destined to take their place on the Council, many wished to see them disappear, and would sooner see an elf sit at the Quintessential Table. Even with all the power of their mother, nothing could stop some of the extremists of Wéssar to come after them. Several assassinations were attempted, though none succeeded. Vildra, having grown up with anger in response to her people’s hatred of her birth, trained heavily in ancient Draconian martial arts, and practiced with all kinds of swords and blades. Something in her blood (or perhaps something else) made her the best at what she did, and at such a young age. Vesna, however, sought a more philosophical or magical answer to the omens of their birth. She began to study matters of divinity, science, magic, philosophy, portents and omens, and even the Occult. Something out there destined them to become something more, and she was going to find out. So, while the sisters were very close (even coming up with a form of sign language that only they knew), they began to diverge in their efforts. Vildra responded with violence to her aggressors, and Vesna sought ancient sites and temples for answers. After decades of discontent and outrage at the birth of these two twins, a civil war (one of a kind) broke out, and shattered the great civilization. To add to this Age of Woe, the Myvan Dynasty arrived and saw an opportunity to strike covertly against the Empire. During this unkindled war against the Myrvans and her own people, Vildra led military campaigns and slaughtered Myrvanian and Wessarian alike. It was at this point that the two sisters diverged. During the final stages of the war, Vildra was overrun and captured by the Myrvan Dynasty, and Vesna disappeared after the fall of Tharkellin and vanished into the cold wastes of the Everfrost Sea. When Vildra was captured, she was experimented on. The Myrvan family saw a use for her beyond death. Even though their powers were mostly based in the experimentation of Necromancy and Sangomancy, they also were known for making pacts with otherworldly beings to gain power. So, through an intense and painful ritual, her Draconic Spellscale blood was fused with demonic Ichor. She then became an abomination of reality, and grew evermore powerful. She then served in the front lines of the War of Ashunian’s Hope, leading the Myrvan Dynasty to many a victory. Vesna, after witnessing the fall of the capital and the destruction of her home, ran south across the frozen ice. She continued on running for many days, only wanting to fade away for good. Then, during her final breath, she heard a voice. The voice of a being much in the same state as she; frozen and enraged. He promised her answers and the power to do what was necessary to exact vengeance. When she emerged from the tundras and glaciers, she was granted boons and knowledge of supernatural origins, and she began using these boons to hunt down the Myrvan Dynasty. As the war came to a halt, Vildra was supposedly defeated by a group of powerful mercenaries, and Vesna destroyed the last known remnants of the Twin Fangs (a covert faction that led the war against the Pravalon Empire). After hearing what had happened to her sister, Vesna went to the southernmost isle and continued plotting and scheming with her new patron. With the war finished and her sister assumed dead, she began seeking answers to the World Rift and its origins. She believed and was told that her true answers lie within. Decades continued, and unbeknownst to her, Vildra returned from the dead, and now serves the Twin Fangs once again to finish what she started. Though something is different this time. Vildra is slowly becoming aware of the influence the Myrvans have had on her, and has begun questioning her masters. The fates of these two twins are unknown. But let it be known that any who cross them shall feel the might of the Spellscales.
