The first half of this book seems to detail about 20 years of the gnomes life, including some grand discovery he made. The entries seem to get more dire as the journal progresses.

No, this can't be happening! I'm too young for the Bleaching to be taking me! Already my hair has begun to silver and my fingernails have changed to a milky white to match my fingertips. I can't let this happen. I will record my logs here as I seek to find the greatest discovery known to man, and learn the truth about the Dragon Wars. That shall surely save my life and prevent this damnable curse.

I have traveled far North of my home in Limbala. It seems I have finally found the text that I was looking for, The History of Era Draconis. The booklayer had been most courteous when parting with it, a mere fifty gold pieces to relieve him of it. I will have to remember to pay him more when I have returned with the treasures of legends.

It seems that according to The History of the Era Draconis, the War of the Dragons lasted roughly one-hundred years, and the heroes of legend only appeared within the last twenty. It seems many of the races had attempted to stand up to the beasts before the heroes were ever chosen.
