  Winter Harbor

  Winter Harbor is a small city on the western edge of Crystal Lake, three day’s ride to Mayfall, the second largest city in Kharis (the largest is Daleah, the capitol city).   Winter Harbor is the second city of that name. The original Winter Harbor was a port city on the ocean, but after the Cataclysm, monsters from the Abyssal Plain (what used to be the ocean, before it was drained) started making excursions into the city. As such, the city was rapidly abandoned, and the population moved inland.   About 300 years ago, the government of Kharis embarked on a quest to stop the Westmarch River from continually dumping its contents into the Abyssal Plain. A dam was built in the river, just above its waterfall, creating a lake that stretches from Winter Harbor to Mayfall, and providing shipways between the major cities of Kharis.
