Session 8 - Sloop Group - Escape from darkness

General Summary

  The party began this week in the darkness and damp of a secret area in the Salt Mines.   The walls here were a little different to the rest of the mines and it was clear that no one had been to this part of the mines in a long time. The party slept to regain their strength after the ordeal in the stairs room.   Once rested Testiclies decided to explore a little. He found a ladder leading down into darkness to the North at the bottom of which he found a sturdy iron door with no visible lock. On climbing back up the ladder he was informed by Okkar that there might be a secret Dwarven switch somewhere allowing access through the door.   He returned to the party but decided to have a quick look at a passageway off to the east. To the north of this passage he found various broken equipment and some crates. The crates had a bizarre selection of items in them, cutlery, crockery, costume outfits and wedding clothes! Testiclies gathered up all he could and headed south. As he approached the area to the south he could see light, a strange sickly green glow was being given off by a profusion of moss growing there. The whole area was very damp and the dampness seemed to be emanating from an opening in the roof here. Below the opening and the moss were various bones, some humanoid, some animal, rusted metal and the glint of metal. As Testiclies approached, barbed tendrils and vines shot out from the moss attacking the surprised Goliath! They quickly enveloped him and he felt himself being constricted by the incredibly strong vines. Fortunately, due to his immense strength he managed to burst free of their strangling grip before succumbing to any serious danger. It was now clear to Testiclies why bones lay beneath the overhanging moss.   On returning to the tunnel where he had left the rest of the party he found them already heading back to the stairs area….   The party charged back out of the secret door but the raiders and slavers were waiting for them! Wilward came under immediate fire as he emerged from rows of crossbowmen, once again the raider with the arquebus was present too. Under a hail of ire the party sprinted up the stairs after their attackers and managed to dispatch most of them. The party took casualties but no fatalities and managed to establish control of the stair area. However, due to the injuries sustained some of the party members retreated temporarily back to the secret area.   Testiclies was determined to investigate the moss creature further and took Zakila with him. They separated and drew the strange plant creature out of its hiding place. As Zakila opened fire with his eldritch blasts, Testiclies lay in wait out of sight. The blood moss unexpectedly began to spread slowly and inexorably across the floor of the damp cave towards Zakila….   The blasts seemed to have little effect on the moss creature and Testiclies gripped his long sword, preparing to attack and thinking that his plan might have been a mistake….   Several other party members approach as Testiclies lay in wait at the junction of the passages. The moss reach out to him after sustaining multiple eldritch blasts, but finally succumbed to the damage and melted away in a burning pile of ash and moss.   Testiclies investigated it's lair and found several interesting items. A bag of holding and shining mace among the gold that lay beneath the whole in the cave roof.
