Session 12 - Sloop Group - Bards Gate Catchup Report

General Summary

Having cleared out the mines, the adventurers set off back towards Bard Gate to collect their rewards and make plans for what to do next. The young half-elven girl, Aryia, accompanied them back the city, the party allowing her to ride the horse they had left tied up outside a few days before.
They made it back to the city in the early afternoon and headed back to Fort Rendezvous, the tavern in Tent City where they had found Colonel York and who had given them the quest to pursue the raiders. He congratulated the adventurers on their success, bought them each a well-earned drink and promised to deliver the reward of 200 gold pieces to Lady Cassandra's home within the day.   Shortly after, Cassandra headed off towards the Temple District with Aryia to find her mother, Krinnin. They made enquiries at the House of the Vigilant Guard and before long Aryia's mother was seen running towards them, a grief-stricken but joyous look on her face as she was reunited with her beloved daughter. She thanked Cassandra profusely and promised that when her husband, the half-elven lord Sir Agelathyn returned from Arendia he would reward the companions handsomely for rescuing his precious child. Aryia thanked Cassandra warmly once more and Lady Cassandra headed home for a well-earned bath before returning the others.   The others stayed in Fort Rendenzvous for a few celebratory drinks and noticed that the proprietor, Colonel Portland, seemd overly interested in their conversation with Colonel York, eavesdropping on them from the bar. The companions approached him and made enquiries to determine his purpose. It became clear that he knew something about the kidnappings and the raiders and seemed very relieved when they reported that Crommlen and Ickthor, the priest they had encountered in the Salt Mines, were now dead. His exact motive was difficult to interpret at this point but Malcer pressed the point and he began to crumble. He once again stressed his immense dislke for outsiders, particularly Half-Orcs and seemed to especially hate the Wanderers. As his lies unravelled it became obvious that he was involved in the kidnapping and in over his head. He furtively asked the adventurers to return later when all the other patrons had departed so that he could tell them the whole, sorry story.   The companions returned after sundown and he pleaded with them not to tell the authorities about his involvement, in return he offered to set up a meeting with the people behind Crommlen and the Raiders and asked the companions to leave it with him for a while. He was left with no doubt however, that they would not hesitate to go to the authorites if he did not help to put it all right.
