Session 5: Sloop Group - Raiders!

General Summary

  The party camped on the North edge of Tent City awaiting another attack…   As the evening rolled on, the fog rolled in and the air grew cold and damp due to the proximity of the waterway to the north.On the stroke of midnight a horn was heard to the East followed by the sounds of people screaming, horses galloping and fighting, the fog seemed to thicken at the sound of the horn. The party raced to the East and caught glimpses of hooded attackers on horseback. The horseman were attacking Tent City residents and attempting to abduct some of them.   Zakila reached the scene of the fighting first and took down one of the horsemen with an well-placed 'mind spike' spell. Cassandra was not far behind and was immediately attacked when she arrived.   Through the darkness and fog Zakila spotted a robed figure fighting against two of the raiders, the figure seemed out of place among the residents of Tent City. As Zakila watched, two of the raiders attempted to entangle the stranger in a net but he nimbly ducked out of the way, hitting out at one of the attackers as they galloped past, knocking the attacker off his horse.   Meanwhile, Testiclies and Wilward arrived on the scene. As Testiclies charged in, Wilward set off around the outside of the camp to cut off the horsemen's advance and came face-to-face with one as he galloped out of the darkness, the raider let off a well-aimed arrow straight at Wilward's face. Due to his years of training and meditation, Wilward caught the arrow instinctively, using his hands deftly to reverse it's direction of travel and sent directly it back at the raider, much to the raider's surprise as the arrow cut into his hand causing him to drop his bow!   The raiders decided they'd had enough and began to withdraw taking several captives, (at least one half-elf and a half-orc female), with them. Wilward knocked his attacker from his horse unconscious as he attempted to escape, and the remaining raiders were gone back into the fog and darkness…   As things settled down, the sounds of distressed victims and angry shouts reached the party as the residents began to recover from the attack. The robed figure introduced himself to the party as Malcer, a cleric. Big Horn approached with his dog soldiers and reported that other parts of the camp were attacked simultaneously. He praised the party and Malcer for their actions and promised them that he would put in a good word with merchants in Tent City. As they were talking, Mamo Bobo arrived shouting at Big Horn that some of her people had been kidnapped by the raiders, she harangued him loudly to rescue her people. She departed and Big Horn asked the party to help rescue the kidnapped residents. The party agreed and immediately set off after the raiders, joined by Malcer, who agreed to help.   Wilward quietly questioned the downed raider in private and obtained information from him, he told Wilward that the raider camp was to the North-East and mentioned a 'Crommlen' and 'The Master'.   Following his advice and after traveling all night, the party came across an inhabited camp in front of a mine entrance….
