The party encounters Quiellen Alderleaf, who suggests seeking Reidoth the Druid for assistance with their quest and gathering information about Cragmaw Cave. Visiting Halia Thornton at the Miner's Exchange, the party agrees to defeat Glasstaff, leader of the Redbrands, and retrieve his papers for a reward. They also receive dynamite and support from Halia. Darren Aldermath asks the party to investigate disturbances at the old Owl Well during their visit to his orchard. While conversing with Quiellen, the party is ambushed by four Redbrand ruffians. A fierce battle ensues, resulting in the defeat of all ruffians except Adrian Morgan, who reveals that Sophia Pendragon betrayed Seraphina but dies before providing further details. Merielle has gems assayed at the Miner's Exchange, choosing to keep them, and the party plans to return later for further assistance from Halia Thornton.
