Investigating Cassalanter Manor Report

General Summary

5 Amesh 527 after 10pm
The heroes are walking back to the Royal Boar when they encounter a group of punks harassing a beggar in the darkened streets. The heroes quickly scare off the punks and render aid to the beggar. The beggar thanks them and then, oddly, his voice changes and he announces:
I call upon you to prevent a great crime and tragedy. There is a plot to give a hundred and one souls and wealth worth a million and one gold coins to the prince of devils. The perpetrators of this plot hope to fulfill a diabolical contract and spare their children from damnation. Know this, these eyes forsee no painless path, saving the hundred and one will damn the children, and sparing the children will doom the one hundred and one, but perhaps your mortal eyes will see a way I do not.

To save the one hundred and one you must not let the Kilpatrick trove fall into the wrong hands! Find the treasure first and keep it from reaching those who would do this evil upon the defenseless.

After making these statements, the beggar resumes thanking the heroes in his normal voice as though nothing had happened.

After receiving this news, the heroes decide to investigate Cassalanter Manor. Travelling to the Midtown district, they notice several signs of Midtown’s affluence. There are working street lamps, people leaving cafes and theaters walking, and DPS foot patrols. After making discreet inquiries, the heroes find Cassalanter Manor.
The Manor is surrounded by a low fence forming the outer ring, and an inner ring of the house, carriage house, guest house and garden wall. The garden wall is masonry 6 feet high with an additional 1-2 feet of wrought iron work on the top.
Grasshopper, Ping-Pong, and All the Light Touches go over the wall while the other make a show of fixing Vectis knee joint in the street in front of the door to the Manor.
Inside the garden wall, All the Light Touches investigates the guest house, Ping-Pong investigates the carriage house, and Grasshopper goes up the stairs to the 2nd floor balcony of the main house. On the 2nd floor balcony, Grasshopper finds a woman smoking, she asks him if he is one of Victoro’s guests. Grasshopper says yes and she takes Grasshopper’s arm and leads him inside. Grasshopper then grapples the woman, who does not resist. After tying up the woman with a sash from the drapes, All the Light Touches and Ping-Pong join Grasshopper on the second floor of the main house. The trio decide to take the bound woman upstairs, and she begins to struggle to escape.
On the third floor the trio discover a children’s room with toys and the master bedroom parlor. Inside the linen closet All the Light Touches is attacked by an animated rug. Ping-Pong and Grasshopper hear footsteps coming up the stairs and drag the bound woman inside the master bedroom. All the Light Touches slams the linen closet door shut on the animated rug and turns to face a tall half-elf and two human guards. The tall half-elf casts a spell on All the Light Touches. All the Light Touches then opens the door to the master bedroom and goes inside. The tall half-elf opens the linen closet door to release the two animated rugs and tell the trio to leave his house immediately.
The trio leave, escorted by the two human guards.
On the way back to the Royal Boar, All the Light Touches, has a compulsion to go to the nearest DPS station to confess to breaking into the Cassalanter’s house. His friends tie him up to prevent him from turning himself in. After an hour or so, the compulsion ends and leaves him with a headache.
