Session 13: Riding the Nightmare Report

General Summary

The party began by heading to The Dump, and their errands there. First, Quirico headed over to Karsin's book shop to retrieve his coin, and Karsin was quite disappointed, but jovial about it. All through the vast market they noted that the place was far more crowded than usual. As they were talking to Karsin, Quirico asked about the odd booth in a far corner they had noticed, and Karsin mentioned that this was Kilravin's Komponents, and nobody wanted to be too close to that.

Now knowing where their next destination lay, the party began making their slow way through the dense crowds to Kilraven's shop, about halfway around the edge of this huge cavern, but before they got too close, Quirico noticed a small hand stealthily slit open the bag of coin he had just retrived and catching the coin in a heavy bag filled with padding. He reacted instantly and punched the thief in the head, which killed the halfling (who was disguised to appear as a human child) instantly. Quirico tried to stabilize the thief, not realizing he had killed them instantly, and produced a passable bandage. Quirico then tried to just walk away, as an odd honking arose in the distance due to Boris' magic. Quirico made it perhaps 10 feet before a guardsman caught his arm and led him back to the corpse. After a brief investigation, the guard determined the warrior simply acted to retain his property, and gave him back his coin, while distributing out the remaining items to other victims of the thief.

The party then continued to Kilraven's, where they were greeted by a dwarf whith the slim build of an elf. They seemed to know the party names, backgrounds, needs, and character. Kilraven had already prepared bundles of components that both Boris and Roy might need, as well as a few other items. The party negotiated a bit, and ended up trading a 47 pound shiverstone for store credit enough to purchase the spell components. They also traded the Beetle Horror parts, and 4 gazer eyes, for a ring and some gloves which could help Roisin Marshfield and Jeeves , respectively.

After making their purchases, as they walked away, a couple individuals looked back and noticed the ethereal image of a large night hag briefly hover over Kilraven's shop, before the image faded.

The group then went to see Thrimann Nimblecat, whom they owed some mithril. Once there, they received their masterfully crafted shortbows, then were led to a shooting range where they had room to bring all of the Mithril ore out of storage and place it together on the ground. They then used powerful magical boon to extract all of the metal from the ore into a few trade bars, while leaving behind nothing but a fine sand which was spread around the shooting range as ground cover. In the end they obtained 27 pounds of mithril, and a bonus of 10 pounds of platinum. Thrimann Nimblecat took 7 pounds of mithril for his needs, and the party retained the rest. The group also traded for a few arrows and bolts to replenish their stocks.

After Thrimann Nimblecat, the group headed to the Temple of The Source Ascendant, a holy place within the citadel, and there met "High Ascendor Krathlak", a gold-scaled draconic humanoid who served as head priest of that place. They gave Roisin Marshfield permission to rest 8 hours in the hallowed confines of the temple, and recognized Boris' priesthood and allowed him to spend the time in a meditation cell. Roy spent the time in a corner near Roisin Marshfield studying spells and transcribing them to his spellbook, while Jeeves did some last-minute mundane shopping and Trysor wandered off. Quirico spent the time going to the Steelworks to inquire after magical weapons, finding them well beyond his current means, then went to talk to the Captain of the Watch about helping with a recent spate of monstrous attacks on caravans nearby, but on reaching the Watch headquarters was greeted by a Captain, with a somewhat smarmy manner, who thanked him for turning himself in before the guards tossed him in a cell that blocked his magical abilities.

After waking and refreshing herself, Roisin spoke to the High Ascendor, and learned that there had been rumors of major events, that a war was fought between brothers and her father both started and won, that her uncle was ritually sacrificed upon the walls of his castle, that her other uncles and aunts had fled for distant lands when her father ascended the Iron Throne and took upon his head the Iron Crown from ancient times. Concerned, Roisin persuaded the High Ascendor to contact her father with a short message.

Father, I am well, are you well, what about the family. Has there been a change since I left.

I am well, as are the family. I now wear the Iron Crown and am King.

This was grave news indeed, for it was dramatically different from the father she knew. Then she received another message, in the voice of the Vizier, delivered at her father's direction:

Daughter, you are princess now, and have responsibility. Return at once or I shall send the hunters to return your corpse. Your Father, King And Future Emperor, Alathius I"

Notes

Jeeves asked Kilraven about this note he had to deliver from some Ignaz to some one named Jack. Kilraven said "You know them both, the letter was properly delivered quite some time ago", which left Jeeves even more confused.

Quirico has no recollection of why he is being thrown in jail, and is a bit concerned.

Roisin has awoken from a peaceful rest, and Roy, after copying spells, has cast Find Familiar to summon a turtle familiar.

Jeeves has returned after completing his shopping, and is ready to go see what Quirico turned up at the City Watch Headquarters.
