Session 70: Trials at the edge of possibility Report
General Summary
Still in the middle of fighting a dragon, mate to the dragon they'd just killed, Roy and Boris were just blasted by the dragon's breath and knocked unconscious.
Jeeves called upon a divine boon to heal his friends grievous wounds, leaving them conscious, but still very weak. Roisin Marshfield called upon a divine boon to protect Roy even as she ordered his attack. Roy sent two blasts of eldritch energy into the dragon, blasting off a few scales as it screamed in rage. Jeeves reacted by firing an arrow, but the winds blew the arrow aside. Roisin Marshfield then spoke a brief encouragement, strengthening both Boris and Roy further. Boris then stood, and conjured the power of divine grace to imbue Jeeves ' longbow with radiant power, then moved a short distance aside. Jeeves applied a powerful herbal preparation to two arrows, granting both the power and grace of angelic weapons. As Jeeves shot the bow, both arrows were guided to weak points in the dragon's scales, dealing a powerful blow that was immediately followed by a massive burst of holy glowing energy that blackened half of its vibrant scales. Jeeves then moved away from the immensely angry creature. Roy stood, fired two more blasts of eldritch energy, dealing another powerful blow that was only barely resisted by the blackened scales, then moved a short distance to further separate the group. The weather suddenly rose into a full hurricane and a tornado formed that impacted both Roy and Boris, flinging Roy aside like a ragdoll, Roisin Marshfield taking some of the force through her protective magic, while Boris stood his ground and resisted the violent winds. The tornado then moved further, engulfing Roisin Marshfield, and flung her like a ragdoll into a nearby tree, leaving her lightly injured. Roy was simultaneously struck by lightning, but managed to dodge the worst of it, and Roisin Marshfield's magic likewise reduced the impact further. The dragon was also struck by two bolts of lightning, which seemed to strengthen it, and then breathed thunder and lightning again, striking everyone. Roisin Marshfield nimbly evaded the breath; Jeeves dodged the worst of it but still fell unconscious, along with Boris who used his boon to further reduce the impact; Roy took the full brunt, and Roisin Marshfield's protective magic prevented his complete destruction, but nearly killed her in the process. Roy called upon divine providence again to be restored to moderate health instead of death, and Roisin Marshfield consumed her divine boon to grant herself immunity to lightning for a short time. Roisin Marshfield then used a powerful herb, and rallied both Boris and herself. Boris awoke and, true to the tenets of justice, stood strong against the tornado as the winds battered his bruised body, then swung with his hammer empowered by his favorite magic. Jeeves added further divine power to the strike, which left the dragon staggered as one head had the jaw broken, and Boris' follow up strike crushed the skull of another. The remaining heads seemed to fly into an insane rage and tore each other apart as the winds howled and the tornado raged. Boris called upon divine favor once more, and a chest filled with a small king's ransom appeared nearby even as he spoke a word of power to heal everyone a little. Jeeves awoke and cured the worst of his wounds, but was unable to decide a direction to run and remained in place. The tornado continued its rampage as Roy ran away, trying to get as much distance between himself and the battering winds as he could. Roisin Marshfield ran away as she ordered Boris to attack, but Boris missed. Boris then stepped forward, struck the writhing and bleeding dragon, crushing the remaining head even as he conjured a spiritual weapon to shatter the spine, truly killing the creature. Jeeves bound his wounds as best he could, then approached the corpse. Roy pushed through some branches, then teleported next to Roisin Marshfield and asked her to use the protective ward in her circlet, but the tornado then dissipated so they chose to have Roy conjure a few secure shelters instead, to enable everyone to weather the hurricane.
The next day was spent magically manufacturing a modest bailey with stone barracks against the interior walls for shelter while the group awaited the weather to clear. Over the next several days Boris also sought out and buried the 23 persons who had died from the dragons and the storm lightning. Most people passed the time in mundane tasks, although Roy feverishly scribed spells from his various sources into his spellbooks and Jeeves worked to craft . The weather finally cleared enough to continue after 6 days, and the large group gathered together then proceeded North toward the presumed destination. About midday, as the group paused for a meal, a stranger approached with a large group of ruffians and asked who was in charge. When informed it was Roisin Marshfield, the stranger was insulting, calling Roisin Marshfield a little girl, and demanded that they turn over 30 people as slaves or they would kill the defenders and take everyone as slaves. Roisin Marshfield flatly declined, and the spellcasters responded by attacking.
Roy promptly cast Starfall, striking the leader of the ruffians and five of the thugs, blasting each with radiant beams of starlight. The ruffians began to attack, but each, before attacking, magically stole something of value from one of the party; mostly they targeted Roisin Marshfield as some of them screamed out that she was possessed of great wealth, causing the others to focus on her. Several Ruffians managed to steal items from Roisin Marshfield, a few striking her with weapons. Others stole items from Jeeves , also striking him with weapons. As the ruffians attacked, arrows shot out from hidden points in the forest as a group of eleven goblins revealed themselves and began shooting at Roy , staggering him. Jeeves moved away, taking three maces to the back in the process, then blew a tube of black mist at them, poisoning them, then used his mystical union to grant Roy the effects of a protective alchemy. Roy activated a powerful divine boon to summon Cerberus to fight the goblins. Boris then conjured his spirit guardians, the gavels bashing heads of many ruffians and killing one, and Boris moved to include two others in the cloud of gavels. Cerberus attacked a goblin, and struck it once, but the other two heads got tangled together. Boris conjured another divine boon to frighten all of their enemies, and Roisin Marshfield moved to a better position and threw her choking dust in the air. Almost all of the thugs, including the leader, began choking. Roy conjured a dark globe to trap several thugs then moved closer to a fleeing halfling and told them to run towards Jeeves .
