Session 82: Running into a wall Report

General Summary

Waking from a surprisingly restful sleep at the Raynite's Rest to the magical sound of a Rooster softly crowing. Using their new magical earrings for communication, they began the day with a brief discussion of what to pursue next. Among the discussions Roy explained that Dmitrius, the night before, had found vegetables to be nigh unobtanium because Alathius had decreed none might sell food to Levron's Citadel after the leaders of the Citadel refused the new emperor's order to begin using constructs and the undying as mine workers with "Ahh, the demon reveals itself, return to the hells from which you spawned, fiend." This, unsurprisingly, did not sit well with the burgeoning tyrant, and troops were sent, immediately, to invest a siege upon the citadel. Jeeves eventually asked Boris to try on a magical bracelet, which finally prompted the party to get out of bed and dress for the day. Roy performed magical rituals to prepare for the day, including sending a magical communique to The Copper Bolt, asking if the dragon received the spell Roy researched. The dragon replied, "Yes, I have received the spell. Quite a good piece of work, I am thoroughly impressed. Please do not contact me for a while. I have been asked to assist with a difficult undertaking, and any distraction could be fatal." Moments later, Roy received a similar communique from The Copper Bolt, "Rest assured that I, or another, will communicate with you in this manner to let you know how that endeavor has played out." Roy responded "I wish you luck in your endeavor, and thank you again for the gift you gave me; it was very helpful in summoning my familiar, Jonas". Although Roy knew, already, the outcome of this difficult endeavor; Roy also knew, as a Temporal Wizard, that any attempt to change that outcome would be catastrophic. The burden of a time traveller being to sometimes know the future, and not attempt to change it. Boris found the magical bracelet to be valuable, and clasped it to his wrist. The group gathered in Jarlin's, a fine tavern adjacent to the inn after settling their accont with Raynite's Rest; learning that the inn had a slogan, "There is no night's rest like a Raynite's Rest". At Jarlin's, after Jeeves squeezed through the doors, they were welcomed to the tavern, and warned that vegetables are temporarily unobtainable, so mushrooms would be substituted for vegetables in all dishes. The group ordered meals, 6 of the largest available meals in Jeeves case, and found the food to be of high quality with generous proportions. Over breakfast they discussed what to do next, and settled on an expedition to the Pits of Borelius. After some equipment shuffling and last minute shopping, the group tried to leave the city, but were stopped by Greeter Lampblack who directed them to a different, and small, passage. With the city under siege, they were permitted to exit a "back entrance" guided by skilled dwarves who disabled traps as they went and closed the undetectable door behind them.

Emerging somewhere in the mountains called the Korth Wall, they found themselves under attack from constructs cleverly hiding among the rocks and boulders of this shattered hillside. Two assassins struck, one nearly killing Jeeves with a poisoned stab to the liver, and another seriously injuring Roisin. Roisin ordered Roy to cast a spell, and Roy animated a small swarm of spikes that battered the constructs. Moments later Roy directed the spikes to further batter the assassins, unfortunately two moved wildly and struck Roisin in the head. Roy also moved to aim a magical phasing bolt of arcane energy that tore through the assassins. Moments later a one of a trio of combat constructs in the near distance moved closer before firing a crossbow; striking Roy. A large mechanical spider crawled out of the rocks, moved close to Roisin, paralyzed her with a beam of energy, and nearly tore her arms off with it's razor forelegs, leaving her unconscious and bleeding out. Jeeves used the mystical union capability of his healing hands to enable Boris and Roisin to trade spaces then spoke a healing word that revived Roisin, tried to back away, and was promptly knocked unconscious by the giant spider construct. Boris spoke a powerful word of healing, to heal Roisin and revive Jeeves, then threw down a magic feather that burst in a thunderous blast that pushed back one construct and lightly damaged the other two. The other two combat constructs shot at Boris, but failed to get through his armor. One of the assassins leapt over the group, landed next to Roisin, and stabbed her twice. Roisin shed a few tears of pain an anger as she regathered her strength, then stood up. Roy's spikes tore the two assassins to bits, and Roy conjured an ice lance that tried to strike the construct spider, but missed. One of the combat constucts rushed closer, and the spider construct paralyzed Boris before striking him in the chest before picking up the halfling and walking away. Jeeves grabbed a pike and struck at the creature, slightly damaging it. Jeeves then concentrated on his humors to heal some of the harm he had suffered and prepared to relieve suffering before moving slightly closer to the spider creature. Boris remained paralyzed. One of the Combat constructs ignited flaming jets in its feet and flew up and over to Jeeves while another rushed forward to the edge of a gap. Jeeves struck at the creature next to him with his pike, puncturing its armor. Roisin stood and moved back toward the edge of the passable terrain. Roy's animated spikes attacked the spider and the combat construct but bounced off the metallic armor of the spider creature without effect, though they did batter the combat construct. Roy then launched another icelance at the spider creature, but could not affect it. The next combat construct activated it's flaming jets to bridge the gap then dashed up to Jeeves. The spider creature threw Boris over the edge into the gap, causing the priest significant injury, then skittered after Roisin. Jeeves consumed a nightbloom root, disengaged, then ran and dove off the edge of the rockslide to get away from these creatures. Boris managed to recover from the paralysis just before the other two combat constructs acted.
