Session 72: And Now for Something Completely Different Report
General Summary
To begin with, Roy found Roisin Marshfield standing near the many halflings working to settle in to the several four-story towers Roy had recently finished manufacturing with the help of a master stonemason. Roisin Marshfield was holding two of her cousins' infants and asked Roy to help. Roy tried to get one of his marvelous servants to help, but the infant reacted badly to the cold construct. Roisin Marshfield asked Roy to hold an infant, but he demurred. Suddenly one of the babies lifted in the air and moved a few feet away. Roisin Marshfieldand Roy asked what was going on and a voice came from the air explaining "I just wanted to hold one for you. I think I forgot to ask if that was OK." Roisin Marshfield and Roy explained they couldn't see anyone, and the voice said "Oh my, I forgot I had done that!". A finger snap was heard, and Wilderin apparated before them, holding the infant. They talked about a few things, an Roy went to find Jeeves . Arriving in front of Severasen's house, Roy didn't see Jeeves , so he conjured an animated scroll, but didn't fold it well, so instead of a parrot, he ended up with a terribly misshapen crane that couldn't fly or walk forward. He told the construct to look for Jeeves and take him a written message, and the creature waddled off in search. Roy returned to Roisin Marshfield and Wilderin to wait. Wilderin's assistant/apprentice, a robust young-looking centaur who claimed to be about a century old (from a family that typically live 300-500 years) arrived. While Roy began casting a ritual to communicate with Jeeves , the centaur lifted Roisin Marshfield upon its back and held a whispered conversation about Wilderin's memory issues and how the centaur became the wizard's apprentice.
Meanwhile, Jeeves and Severasen were finishing their very large meals. Jeeves asked about possibly trading vaguely described monsters the party had gathered for alchemical supplies or other resources. Severasen agreed that such was possible, but would need to know what the creatures were; Jeeves ' vague recollection from a few days before not being sufficient. They went looking for Roy and encountered the misshapen paper bird. The bird unfolded in front of Jeeves to show him the map drawn on the paper. Jeeves , with Severasen's help, went looking for Roy , and arrived just as Roy finished sending a communique to tell Jeeves to come find them.
All together, they talked about going to Severasen's lab to have the corpses examined, but Wilderin simply conjured a glowing door that led, it turned out, to a massive 100-foot by 100-foot combinations laboratory, library and study. Entering the study, Roy retrieved the Behemoth and Dragon corpses, and Severasen used "Wilderin's Icebox" to return them to storage for now. At this point a commotion broke out in the far corner where Wilderin and her assistant, who turned out to be named Georgio, were arguing about something. A brief, but intense, encounter followed with Wilderin growing increasingly angry and irrational. Roisin Marshfield tried to calm the halfling wizard; Jeeves used his medical knowledge to drain the woman's energy, exhausting her. Jeeves lost an arm and nearly died for his actions, but Roisin Marshfield managed to persuade Wilderin to let him leave. Georgio and Jeeves left the magical place, standing outside hoping the others would follow. Roy refused to leave Roisin Marshfield alone; despite Roisin Marshfield's pleas for him to do so, but his presence further enraged Wilderin, and Roisin Marshfield finally persuaded Roy to leave them to talk. Meanwhile Roisin Marshfield continued to calm and persuade Wilderin. Roisin Marshfield finally asked Wilderin what could make the situation right, and Wilderin said "I wish my mind was still just as strong as it was when I was your age." This released immensely powerful magic Wilderin had possessed for centuries; magic that granted her wish and restored her strength of mind. Wilderin, though still lacking some memory, regained her intellect, will, and most of her short-term recall. Wilderin ended the spell she was holding that would have likely destroyed everyone around her in a blaze of energy; and released Roisin Marshfield from the magic holding the young princess still. The others were invited to return, and they left Severasen (who had left the space the moment conflict broke out; rather than trying to intervene) and Jeeves to the wizard's lavish laboratory to discuss alchemy while the rest of the group headed outside.
Wilderin and Roy took several actions to assist Roisin Marshfield's family moving in to their temporary living spaces; including Wilderin conjuring a few mystical servants to act as general concierge's, using magical force to move heavy carts and carriers of belongings, and transforming a stone statue into a real living stone giant to join the community. Roy spent a few hours creating a deep cavern home for the stone giant (under Wilderin's direction, as the wizard had once worked as a mine engineer long ago), and the stone giant appeared to be extremely grateful and happy to have such a home in this community. Wilderin was very tired, however, and had Georgio take her back to her home to rest for the night, promising to meet with everyone in the morning. Roy paid some young boys to find a few chameleons for him among the brush near the river, and used one to conjure a hidden lodge, a large comfortable home that was hidden to appear as no more than a small hill. Inside the large structure the group, joined by Boris (who had spent the day with Winston at the town church), ate a meal prepared by conjured servants from food Roisin Marshfield bought from the town market earlier in the day, and discussed what they would do for the next few days.
