Session 42: Swords distributed by ladies in lakes is no basis for government! Report
General Summary
At the bottom of a lake, facing an immortal who wishes to end their eternal woe and attacked Roy to hasten that end, the party prepared for battle.
Roy had just fired a powerful magical bolt. Roisin Marshfield then ordered Boris to attack, and Boris attempted to toll the dead, but could not affect this being with such limited magic. Cigfran also fired a crossbow bolt, but missed. The lady, who identified herself as Rhiannon, then began yelling at the party begging them to kill her, this charmed Roy and Jeeves , causing Jeeves to examine her for disease rather than acting as requested. Boris conjured a guardian of faith, then stepped away as a random violent hailstorm appeared above Rhiannon. Cigfran stepped back, triggering a thrown sword which struck painfully. Cigfran , uncharacteristically, healed Boris instead of attacking. Roy then fired a Rainbow Blast, and dealt some harm. Roisin Marshfield ordered Roy to attack, and Roy fired eldritch blast, but missed, then Cigfran fired a crossbow bolt, and also missed. Rhiannon asked why people were not killing her and struck Jeeves twice. Boris healed Jeeves , which also turned the savant to stone, and Cigfran struck with a crossbow bolt then moved to get a better vantage point. Roy conjured ball lightning next to Rhiannon, Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, but he missed, and Jeeves attacked with a rapier, but it did nothing, to which Rhiannon responded "Damnit, you're useless!" then moved aside, resulting in taking damage from the faith guardian. Jeeves and Boris both struck at her, but neither could connect effectively. Roy 's ball of lightning shocked her, as Jeeves tried to get closer to have his weapon enchanted, only to learn Roy could not do so. Boris conjured a spiritual weapon and dealt a little bit of damage, then struck with the Rod of Justice for a bit more damage. Rhiannon began to thank the group, then suddenly flashed in anger, blinding everyone. Roy moved the lightning ball into her again, then struck with eldritch blast as the water around his feet froze solid. Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, but he missed, Boris tried to strike as well, but missed, and Roisin Marshfield rallied both Boris and Jeeves . Boris conjured spirit guardians to strike at the woman and Rhiannon healed, despite her wishes, then stepped back and was struck by the guardian of faith before returning to her place. Rhiannon also laid a hand on Boris and asked for surcease from her imprisonment, healing him. Jeeves struck with a shocking grasp, and Rhiannon thanked him, then begged him again to kill her, further charming him. Cigfran took careful aim, Roy used a divine boon and a chronal shift to help, and the fates frowned on his attack, so he missed nonetheless (1,1,2,4,6,11). Roy launched a chromatic orb, but missed, and then struck with the lightning ball as Rhiannon restored his divine favor. Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, but he missed again then Boris struck with his rod, powerfully. Rhiannon was burned slightly by the spirit guardians, then dominated Jeeves and directed him to kill her. Jeeves again shocked her, for slight damage. Boris struck again with both spiritual weapon and rod, but both missed. Cigfran struck with a crossbow bolt, and Roy used divine favor again to empower this bolt to destroy the immortal woman. Roy stood down, then Roisin Marshfield ordered Boris to ensure the being was dead; so Boris used divine magic to revive the dead, which strangely released the spirit from the body and allowed the soul to depart for its eternal rest. Rhiannon thanked Boris, and took his Rod of Justice with her, informing the cleric he would find better nearby. Roy looked around, with some help, and looking through the Divan found a weapon. As Roy pointed it out to Boris, it appeared to be a Mace, sword, then warhammer. When Boris picked it up he heard a voice telling him "I prefer to be called Skull Reaver." Then as he felt a conflict of wills, the voice said "Ahh, finally a worthy knight. Know that I will serve no evil master, but in the hands of the righteous I will destroy evil, smite the undying, and deliver you from your foes". Boris, aloud, said "You know what, Skull Reaver, I think we're going to get along great!", as Roisin Marshfield rolled her eyes and said "Here we go again...". Roy began joking about drinking blood and such, which resulted in the weapon crying out aloud that Boris must destroy this foul unliving beast. After a brief contest of wills, Boris prepared to attack, so Roy used momentary stasis to gain a few seconds, and Jeeves tried to disarm him but lost his weapon in the silt instead. Boris shook free of the stasis, and broke Roy 's jaw with a well placed hammer strike, which exposed the normal teeth. The hammer immediately apologized and asked Boris to heal Roy , but Roy still used magic called Bitter Chains to imprison Boris in place for a time. Boris managed to heal Roy before he swam off, and Cigfran and Jeeves freed Boris from the magical restraints. The hammer apologized to Boris and asked Boris to make things right with Roy . The group headed up to the surface, where Roy tried to conjure a rope trick, but summoned a giant snake instead. Cigfran , Roisin Marshfield, and Boris quickly dispatched the beast, and everyone took an hour to rest and catch their breath. After catching their breath, Roisin Marshfield asked Cigfran to lead the way, so he said "I have no idea where we are" then headed off to the West. Perhaps 20 minutes later Cigfran held up a hand and the party stopped as they noticed movement ahead. The party spread out, cast some spells, and hid as best they could as they saw huge purple-skinned humanoids approaching through the trees from the North. Roy conjured a Lightning Ball against them frying one, as they moved forward.
