Session 103: A Matter of Viewpoint Report

General Summary

The discussion continued, including Jeeves mentioning magical herbs; something the rebels seemed not to have heard of previously. Another item that came up was that there might well be a trap at the Merchant's Square because the square was closed to the populace. Jeeves decided to scout the square as a parakeet. Unfortunately, as the parakeet flew over the square, a large hawk noticed the small bird, and attacked, successfully, forcing Jeeves to revert to his normal form. Jeeves fell to the ground, transformed into a hawk and took flight. The soldiers fired crossbows and struck, forcing Jeeves back into his normal form again, and causing him to fall back to the ground. Jeeves, panicing, rushed toward the wall, and used magical alchemy to trade places with a soldier. More crossbows fired, and despite Jeeves' use of a magical inertial barrier, three struck true. Jeeves, further panicing, saw more than an hundred guards turn towards him and used another magical alchemy to teleport 60 feet from the walls, then fell to the mud. The magic surged with power, throwing him over 300 feet out and very near the ground. Jeeves stood and dashed away, getting far enough that most of the bolts and arrows fell short. With another desperate dash Jeeves finally reached the relative safety of the trees.

As Roy reached the trees, his mind went fuzzy and his entire memory of the previous ten hours became nothing but butterflies. The party discussed, thanks to their magical earrings, what to do next, and the idea came up to possibly go to their "special closet" in Roisin's "favorite relaxation spot". They then asked Jeeves if he could be back in less than one minute. Jeeves thought a moment, then said yes, so Roy began casting his spell. Jeeves called upon the residue of some chaotic magic that he encountered weeks before to reinvigorate himself, the transformed into a hawk and flew at maximum speed, arriving just in time to fly through the portal as it opened. Jeeves almost hit a wall in the closet, but just barely managed to stop in time, then landed on Bastion's shoulder.

Everyone stepped out into an abandoned structure. They walked to the front door and found it locked. Roy, irritated and impatient, tapped a magical wind chime and the ring of the chime caused the door to unlock. Everyone filed out of the building where Jeeves returned to his normal form. Roy asked Jeeves if he had a basic Rathingar's Rest available. Jeeves offered one, and Roy accepted it, noting he would need it soon. As they walked the deserted streets, Roy snapped his fingers and Jonas appeared. Jonas looked around, and immediately transformed to his massive Ankylosaurus form. The group reached the massive Merchant's Square a short time later, and beheld a scene out of nightmare. In the center of the massive square was a pit filled with yellow bubbling ooze roughly 300-400 feet across, filling the center half of the immense square. Roy reminded Jeeves of what they needed to do, to block the streets, deal with the pit of ooze, and secure the square before the rebel agent opened the gates to allow the rebels to rush through.

Seeing a few hundred guards among the city wall and rooftops, they ducked around a corner and considered their options. The hundreds of guards on the roofs and city wall ready to fill any attackers with arrows, and the smoking pit of glowing yellow goo formed a general hazard. Boris insisted this pit must be filled with acid, even as Roy suggested it could be many other things, and Jonas suggested it might even hide a foul creature of some sort. Jeeves noted he had an Alatherus Assistant and could summon something to "spring the trap", whatever that might mean; and even handed Roisin one of the same items as she crushed the grey bead Roy had given her and summoned three mechanical bodyguards. Roisin suggested Jeeves summon a Flail Snail, but Jeeves finally chose living fire to clear the wall top and asked to be made invisible by Jonas. Jonas, this massive dinosaur, stepped close to Jeeves and licked his face, the smell of its breath like rotted fish, and Jeeves disappeared. Jeeves cleaned his face of the smell, then walked up the walls to the top of the city wall where he summoned living fire that he ordered to rush along the wall burning as many soldiers as possible. The elemental creature's resistance to normal arrows enabled it to survive quite a while as it burned almost all of the guards on the wall to death, leaving the immediate area around the gate mostly free of defenders atop the wall. Roy, seeing the living fire, summoned an invisible creature of air to stalk and kill the soldiers atop the buildings surrounding the square at the same time. Over the course of about ten minutes the two elemental creatures killed and terrified enough soldiers, over 200 total, that the few who remained fled in terror. Suddenly, a massive hand of ooze reached up from the pit and clenched. Roy and Jeeves jerked back with a sudden flash of mental pain as the magic summoning the elemental creatures was suddenly torn away; dispelled far more aggressively than normal. An alien voice, echoing over the city, called out. "Well, now. I've no idea what you are, no idea who you are, cannot even detect you, but I see what you're doing. I recommend you stop. You see, most of your town is in my pit, and if you continue to cause problems or do not show yourselves, I'll eat them."
