Session 78: Soothing Dulcet Tones Report

General Summary

Facing off against the "Droth" in charge of these creatures that call themselves "Shoth". The Droth said "Oh, I see now that you mean to destroy us all. Unfortunate.". The Droth began by crushing Boris and and drawing knowledge of magic from Boris mind to apply to Roisin, resulting in Roisin being crushed and restrained by magical chains. The Droth then said "Please, stop fighting, there is no reason to harm us, we are here to help." One of the humanoid ooze, called a sooze, leapt up to attach Boris, but missed. Jeeves, a little slow to catch on, tried spitting poison at the creature, which seemed to bother it as it slowed slightly, then moved up onto the ruined tower, drawing a feeble attack from one of the sooze next to him, but noticed it also spit poison just as he had previously. Roisin ordered Boris to attack, and Boris threw his hammer at the Droth, but missed. More of the sooze moved to attack, all missed, but one also merged with the Droth. Boris moved to get all his allies in view, then tried to cast a spell but heard a thousand voices suddenly crying out in his mind to disrupt his concentration, but he shrugged it off and brought forth his strongest spiritual guardians and transferred the concentration to his hammer. More sooze attacked, one struck Boris for a scratch, and many merged with the Droth, greatly strengthening it. Roy found that attacking creatures was difficult, so he conjured a massive cone of devestating cold, freezing several, but learning that sooze don't mind cold as much, and Droth not at all. More Sooze moved about, and a couple were destroyed by Boris radiant gavels, although one did manage to strike Boris again. This Droth creature rose up, slammed down, and sent a wave of ooze washing over the group. Roisin evaded it and Jeeves saw it coming, but Roy and Boris were both slightly injured. The Droth then used Roy's knowledge of magic to dispel the spiritual guardians surrounding Boris. Some other creature launched a fireball in the midst of the group, burning Boris, but Jeeves and Roisin evaded completely. From off to the northeast, a bolt of fire flew to Boris and burned him slightly. A few more of the Sooze merged into the Droth, further strengthening it. Jeeves moved up further on the tower, drew his longbow, and shot at the Droth, but missed. Roisin called out to direct Roy "Hit 'em with a spell, ten percent for the big guy!", causing Roy to launch a magical attack that battered the Droth; called out a word of encouragement to rally her own and Boris' spirits; then shook off the ooze holding her in place with help from a divine boon. Boris conjured a beacon of hope above his head, helping his friends to rally and fight on. More sooze gathered around a pool in the remains of a ruined tower. Roy moved back, fired a couple blasts of magical force, then conjured a hail of pins and pain onto the battlefield; trapping many of the sooze in place. The Droth, unrestrained, moved to engulf Roisin, burning her horribly with its acidic form, but Boris' divine boon maintained her ability to move freely. Jeeves tried to charm the Droth, but failed, then jumped off the tower. Roisin crawled out of the ooze and dashed away. Boris moved back, taking a heavy hit in the process, then threw a hammer, striking the Droth, then conjured a spiritual gavel which struck powerfully. Roy moved into a better position, conjured another hail of pins and pain, affecting the tower and pool where the creatures were diving into the pool. This appeared to have disrupted something, angering the creatures such that they abandoned their efforts there and attacked Roy suicidally. The Droth, clearly enraged, pursued Roy and engulfed him, then drew knowledge from Roy to conjure beams of radiance that burned Boris and Jeeves; Roisin dodged aside, and the Droth moved closer to the others. Jeeves moved back, taking a massive strike, but continuing on due to his indomitable will, then in a feat of mystical union applied healing salve to himself affecting Roisin, nearly fully restoring her health, and used his chirurgen's skill to recover his own strength. Roisin ordered Boris to attack, impacting powerfully. Boris then consumed a gnomish tea bean, and attacked with his spirit gavel, but failed to penetrate the toughened exterior. Roy used some divine boons to prevent further harm, and accelerate time, then conjured a gravitational effect to damage the creature before using a phase bolt to blow open a hole through which he could crawl out, consumed a healing herb, and read a script to strengthen his next spell. The Droth then engulfed both Jeeves and Boris, badly burning Boris with acid, but Jeeves sidestepped the attack. The Droth then slammed Jeeves twice, devestating him with two critical impacts that nearly killed him outright, prevented only by Roisin's cry of life. Jeeves used his healing skills to patch up a few of the worst damage, then moved away, taking yet another powerful strike in the process. Roisin ordered Roy to attack, and he launched a single blast of eldritch force into the ooze, then moved back further. Boris stood up and stepped away thanks to his magical freedom of movement then healed himself before moving further back and striking with his spirit gavel, for a modest impact. Roy animated a bag of iron spikes which then attacked the creature, striking 5 times, and consumed some herbs, one of which triggered a surge of magic that removed all the bones from his right hand.
