Session 59: The Grilled Forge Report
General Summary
13th of Anarire 1524 As the battle ends, the devil combusts, Uqaviel crumbles to the ground, missing a wing. Karl calls for help as he runs outside once he hears the explosion. Xeldarix runs over to Uqaviel with Karl, her hands glowing. There is a large section of his chest bleeding from where a barbed blade went in and was pulled out. A stump where one of his wings was detached and the other looks badly injured in general. Fargrim follows and thanks Uqaviel’s unconscious body as he also pours his own healing into the angel. Between Xeldarix and Fargrim the bleeding stops but Uqaviel doesn't wake up. Lily joins and casts Heal on Uqaviel, which cases him to stir but not fully wake. The group takes him inside and up to Xeldarix’s bed. Xeldarix grabs the wing and tucks it in with Uqaviel since she doesn’t know what to do with it. A memory seems to stir within her about healing Liquid fire. Lily encourages her to talk about it if she remembers more. The group looks at checking the house before bed. Lily sounds out a message to let everyone with rings know the devils are dealt with. Salma tells the group she has a few members of her temple are coming to the house. She has no way to recall them. Erin is still coming as the news the problem is gone does not change her plans. Lily looks around outside and finds a dagger. She uses druidcraft to repair some of the damage to Phobe’s tree.The other devils have their armour and spears that are tattered, they each have a strange ring that glows red still. One has a more written in infernal, one has a vial of pale red liquid, a small pouch of yellow powder, a strange looking yellow belt, and a small pouch of iron coins that are hot to hold and feel warm through the pouch. Lily looks over the fiends to see they are alive and unconscious. They take the fiends out to the crater to kill them. The town watch arrives with some members of the temple of Niera to look into disturbance the neighbours reported. The group gives their statements and the watch looks over the property before leaving. The paladins heal the group up a little before they leave. Erin arrives and she fusses over Karl for a bit, offering to be on watch tonight. Lily had already gotten some rest so she finishes her long rest so she can take over from Erin. 14th of Anarire 1524 Lily's watch is uneventful as the 14th of Anarire rolls round. Clear and calm day with a top of 20C. Fargrim is up early with Lily. Lily does her best to fix the gardens of the neighbours who were affected by the fight the previous night. Afterwards Lily wakes Karl, who will wait until Erin has finished her trance before coming down. Lily goes to check on Uqaviel who has recovered and is pretending to sleep. Lily calls his bluff by pretending to allow Xeldarix to join them in the attack on the thieves guild today. Uqaviel cannot stop himself from intervening. Lily and Uqaviel discuss what is best for Xeldarix’s safety with the attack from last night in mind and a compromise is made where Xeldarix and Uqaviel will wait at the tomb near the guild. Their conversation moves to Uqaviel’s detached wing. If it cannot be reattached he will need to take a trip to dispose of it since he will not risk a mage getting hold of it to use it as material parts. Lily and Xeldarix go down for breakfast while Uqaviel corners Karl for a chat. During breakfast they discuss future living arrangements and their plans for the day. Uqaviel works with Caramella to hide his wing. After the discussion the group leaves for the sewer entrance and Erin communicates with Wave to get the officers to meet them there.
Enna, Wave and Bartharm meet the group at the sewer entrance. Lily looks over the entrance and notices that someone has relocked and trapped it. Fargrim uses his wand to help Lily become dexterous. She disarms it and gets them in without any issue while Karl is overly paranoid about a rat in an alley. Carefully, the group sneaks through the sewers. When they arrive at the place the wererats had told them that the entrance was, they only see a dead end. The group looks over the area. It’s heavily warded and Lily dispels the wards. Lily then looks the area over for traps and sees it is indeed trapped. Unable to disarm it they get Erin to trigger it after getting Xeldarix and Uqaviel to retreat to the tomb stairs to wait for them. As Erin opens the door. The entire space with the green colour fills with green gas. Lily, Enna and Wave are hit by the edges of the gassed area. As the door opens, Erin is shot at by those on watch. The group quickly overwhelms the pair and one tries to run away but Erin gives chase before he can get too far and stops him from alerting the whole building. The group look over the rooms connected to the one they entered. They all seem to have stone coffins. They search the bodies of those they have killed. They find on one there is a coin pouch (15g), he wears a brass ring, a vial of something and has some garlic in his pocket. The other guy has much more on him. His coin pouch is fuller (22p), a small hammer and chisel, a tiny figurine of a rat made of wood, fragments of a shattered sword and a coin with a string attached to it. As the group goes up the stairs they can see it does continue to go up until they arrive on the next floor. There is an open doorway to the left off the stairs and after 35 ft the 10 wide hallway goes to the right. Before the group can even decide if they want to explore this floor or continue up, someone walks through the doorway. "Intruders!" He yells upon seeing the group. The group works together to defeat the enemies on this floor. Fargrim is significantly hurt but does manage to heal himself up a little. The group makes sure each of the thieves are dead. As Lily ensures one is dead a golden halo comes out of the thief and hits Lily and Fargrim. They continue to check bodies for anything of value now they’re all dead. Karl checks 3 bodies. He finds a fair bit of pocket lint and a bag of 97 marbles. They have 510 sp, 150 gp, a crystal of sulphur, a ring of iron keys, several clockwork gears, two headed copper coin, and feathers. Lily checks 3 bodies as well. She finds 3 ceremony daggers that look to be dedicated to Lolth, a grappling hook, a vial with a silver liquid in it, 320 sp, 140 gp, a shopping list, a turnip, a set of dice, some mouldy bread, and a vial with a blue liquid in it. Fargrim searches two bodies. He finds a few hair pins, a bag of 91 marbles, 270 sp, 100 gp, a small tin cup and a crushed flower. The group explores more of this floor. They find the toture room that has a trap door in the ceiling, that the group ties off. After that is secure they continue to explore and find some empty room and storage, but what really draws their attention is the cells area. Which seem to be personalised to each member of the group, Xeldarix, Steve, Salma, Saryea, Quill, and Fulda. Meanwhile Erin and her crew move bodies into one of the empty rooms to try and hide them. Upon seeing the cell for Steve and the threats made to his children, Lily contacts him and warns him to keep an eye on his kids. The group comes up with a plan for Erin to disguise herself and Lily to use the dust of disguise to pretend to be one of the thieves they have taken out to lure a safe number of combatants to this floor as a trap. Once Fargrim uses his wand on Lily to give her a charismatic boost. Erin and Lily head upstairs. Lily didn’t go far upstairs. She waiting for a few moments before following the group down. Lily goes upstairs and pretends that they have intruders downstairs that have been knocked out. The next floor up just seems to be a hallway with nowhere to go. They continue up to the next floor. This one has people on it. Lily is ordered to go to see the Master while Erin is to take them to the prisoners after Lily has a successful persuasion check. Erin uses the ring to tell Fargrim how many people she is bringing down. Karl gives Enna a potion of invisibility in preparation for the fight. As Erin brings down the thieves, one seems to believe something is up as the others start to look for the missing intruders. He questions Erin as the others stumble upon the group after hearing them in the other room. The man who had seen through Erin’s deception attacked without hesitation and through the fight Erin was almost brought down. However her plight isn’t heard as the group takes advantage of casting silence on the enemies to keep them from using magic or calling for help. As Erin was pushed so close to falling unconscious she succumbed to her anger as she attacked. Enna is also roughed up by the thieves. Once they were all killed, Enna takes the enraged Erin aside to try and calm her down again. Meanwhile everyone else searched the bodies. Karl finds a grappling hook, 400 cp, 120 pp, a bowl with runes engraved into it and a scroll on him. Lily finds a coin with the Lolth symbol on it and that one of the guild members has it carved into the back of their hand. A bag of gems, 2 scrolls, and a potion vial. Fargrim finds pocket lint, 90 pp, an amulet that looks like Karl's and a brass flower brooch set with spinel and tourmaline. Fargrim checks on Erin and heals her a little. Lily continues to explore the area for some of the doors that stumped her earlier. Once the group has explored as much as they can, Lily uses an invisibility potion on herself and Pass without Trace to go and scout out the upper floors. She tries to find something in the hallways about the group, but finds nothing. Afterwards, she skips the floor above where she knows there are people and heads for the top floor. On this floor as she explores she can hear movement in one of the rooms, but as she tries to disarm a trap on one particular door that she is teleported into a very cramped and looking around there are other skeletons laying in here with her. The walls and everything is stone. Lily immediately communicates with Erin and Fargrim to let them know. She tries to get out, but can’t seem to lift the lid off. After a while she notices that the air is stale in here.
Upon receiving the distress call from Lily the group immediately starts to search for coffins. Lily, through the ring, urges them to check behind the stuck door on the group’s current floor. They manage to get in that room but reveal that. As they get ready to check the floor above them, Karl remembers that there were stone coffins below them and the group rushes down the stairs. Through Lily using a spell to make some noise and Erin being able to pinpoint her rough location, the group sets about brainstorming ways to get past the door. In the end they use the Goblin key to get into the room and start lifting lids to try and find Lily. The coffin lids have names on top of them that were crossed out. The first one has two skeletons in it with a backpack. Aeryn finds the coffin with Lily’s name on it. The name isn’t crossed out yet. They get the lid off and Lily is freed from her resting place with two other skeletons. Lily tells them about the trap. They agree they will need to be more careful to avoid someone being sent down here again. They examine the remains of those in the coffins and take anything they find of value. Karl finds 3 Gold ring set with bloodstones, Necklace of Silver Pearl, A potion vial. Lily finds A small box filled with different-sized buttons, A hilt from a broken sword, Miniature hand sculpted from clay, 2 gp plus 7 sp. The group heads back to the floor above them and find thieves waiting to attack them. The group easily dispatches them, but one of the thieves lets out a golden halo of energy. Bartharm and Karl absorb it. Bartharm develops a headache in the fight. The group searches the bodies and moves them. Karl and Lily find a vial, a black mask, 134 gp, a broken key, and an ointment that Karl recognises as Keoghtom's Ointment. Fargrim finds a pouch of pipeweed and several ribbons. Fargrim goes to check on Bartharm. Lily looks over the bodies and she notices these are none of the people she saw upstairs. The trap door has been untied. Lily looks through it to see a storage room that one would expect to see in an Inn. Lily goes up to have a look and sees more rogues. She heads back and they talk about luring them down here. Fargrim volunteers to make some noise. He attacks the torture tables to draw them in. Some come through the trapdoor and some come running down the stairs to engage the group. Bartharm is rather badly hurt during the fight. Lily summons her hollyphant and her spirit guardians to aid in the fight as the rogues are using teamwork to really hit hard. Enna is brought down by one of the thieves, but Fargrim casts Spare the Dying. The group goes about ensuring the enemies are dead while Karl uses some of Keoghan’s Ointment on Enna while Erin cradles her. Fargrim prays for Enna’s health and Lily gives her a few potions. Erin gives Bartharm her healing potion when she sees he isn’t doing well either. Karl sets off his Detect Life ability as they make their way up. They go past the floor that is just a hallway, which is now revealed to have a secret door, and up to the next floor. Karl can tell there are three people waiting for them. Lily was already badly hurt in the last fight. It gets really close for her in this fight because of it. Once those who fought them had fallen the group quickly heals themselves the best they can. Karl can sense there is a human, drow and two other creatures but he can’t tell what. Upon going up the stairs they come face to face with a Dao. Erin quickly runs up to stun the Dao, which she is successful in doing. Wave fires his crossbow at the stunned Dao while the Master sticks her head out of a room to try and banish Karl for what he did last time they met but she failed. She quickly ducks back into that room. The Drow turns into a giant spider and tries to shoot webs at Enna, but misses. Erin sees red after the Master fires a spell at Karl, she runs past the stunned Dao and into the room the Master fled to. There she attacks the Master and stuns her, but the Master uses her reaction to blind Erin with the web curse. Fargrim tries to attack the Dao and fails, but Bartharm doesn’t as he gets a critical hit and disarms her. No longer stunned, Dao hits Bartharm with her fists in return. A yellow spider that came around the back of the stairs turns into a yellow mist. Thankfully many of the party are able to resist its effects. Lily blesses most of the group she can see. Karl sends out some magic missiles on his wand at the Dao. Unsure if she can hit a cloud, Enna attacks the Dao, getting two good hits in. The drow spider bites Enna which Erin blindly hits her fists against the stunned Master. Enna takes a swing at the mist that get over her while the Drow Spider is attacking her, and seems to hurt it. Bartharm continues to hit the Dao and the Dao hits Bartharm back with her fist. Karl uses a high level Magic Missile to finish off the Dao. Enna continues to attack the spider drow and the spider drow tries to dominate Enna, which she resists. Erin continues to blindly beat the Master who dies and she continues to hit the wall instead. Wave arrives to try and help her, only to see the deed is done so he makes sure that the Master is dead. Fargrim also tries to attack the yellow mist and finds he hits. Karl uses his Magic Missile wand to continue to hurt the mist. Enna meanwhile finishes off the Spider Drow. The yellow mist tries to run and while it does get out of the building, it doesn’t get far when it is shot out of the sky. Karl runs over to see Erin, who is scratching at her eyes and still raging. In the end he is able to calm her enough that Fargrim can remove the curse from Erin. The group grabs what they can, including the Master’s body and head to the Meeting room to take a short rest.
