Session 69: The robbery and the intel Report
General Summary
5th of Deismir 1524 Fargrim gets up at 5am but heads down for breakfast at 6:30am. He does a pre breakfast work out. As Fargrim heads to breakfast, there are scones with jams and cream available. Karl and Erin are already there. They make small talk before Lily joins them at 7am. Lily fills the group in on how the dinner went last night before they talk about their plans for the day. Fargrim tries a few spells to help Erin. They suggest trying to remove the collar and magically curing what comes after, but Erin isn’t willing to take the chance that the group can’t fix it. Simone comes downstairs and after some prompting from Elliot, tells the group she is to meet the Lord of the city on the 7th. Karl floats the idea of Simone selling her estate to Wade Locktree if he was invited to a party to celebrate her return to the community. After they finish talk Karl and Erin head off to the bank and to get massages. Lily and Fargrim head for the mage guild. Lily goes to check on Xeldarix before leaving, but realises she’s not here. Instead she is somewhere to the North East. Lily gets Fargrim to send Xeldarix a message about their plans and Xeldarix tells them to have fun. The group all recovers one con point during the morning.
At 8am Lily and Fargrim arrive at the mage guild. Fargrim pays to memorise the circle (500g) and is told off for trying to copy it. Lily asks for Jackson to come see her when he is in and goes to research Awnshegh locations. Fargrim goes to help her once he is done memorising the circle. They learn of the following Awnsheghs:
- Dame Wither is an ancient crone who lives in the woods of the Coulladaraight in Brechtur. She is said to act as a seer, midwife and the like to those who pay her proper respect - and coin.
- El-Sheighül, the Lord of the Ghouls, is one of the Lost. He makes use of the Black Spear Tribes of Khinasi though their chieftan, Garak zul Turbun, believes himself to be the ruler of the chaotic gnoll bandits of this region. Research suggests has cleric or sorcery abilities.
- Eldried the Rake is a mysterious awnshegh in the Anuirean colonies west of Mieres. A powerful Swordsman, Eldried is said to have a fearful face. He personally rides the seas in a small ship. His swordsmanship is so fearsome that he can parry powerful swords with nothing more than a knife. Eldried the Rake is rumored to be the greatest swordsman in Cerilia and Northern Aduria.
- Ghuralli is a humanoid horse with horns. In Giantsdown and seems to stay in one specific area of the region and rules over the humanoids there and approves the Watch (the authority of the area).
- The Rage of the Sea is a new menace in the waters off the coast of southern Anuire. She appears to be a mixture of Anuirean woman and shark. Nothing is known about her, other than the fact that she is consumed with anger, and she has attacked a number of ships in the waters off Medoere and Ilien. Tylas, a scribe in the city of Ilien, cited her name as the Rage of the Sea, for that is her popular name among seafarers. Tylas also suggested that a link to her origins might be found in an old seaman's tale of a lonely young wife losing her man to the sea, and longing for any way to swim out and bring him back. As this awnshegh has been spotted only twice in the past two years and the story he quotes is a centuries-old folk tale, little stock is put in it.
- The Banshegh is an Awnshegh that torments the people of Pashacht every night, transforming the pleasant forests and mountains into darksome and dangerous in the span of a few minutes. There are rumours that this is the ruler Justina Heulough but this has never been confirmed.
After Karl and Erin left the manor they went to a bathhouse and got a nice massage for an hour before heading for the adventurer’s guild. On the way he goes to the bank to get some gold out. Once they arrive at the guild, Flux greets them. He tells them about the robbery the previous night. A wood elf named Mirime took the Gauntlets, boots of false tracks, Ioun stone, trick dice. Flux offers to watch over Erin while Karl goes upstairs but it’s not necessary. Karl speaks with Tatiana before collecting Inden to head for the mage guild. Today Inden is presenting as male with blossoms as a short hair style. It almost has the look of an undercut to the layer of tinier blossoms beneath the larger ones. On the way to the guild they talk of Poden and Falak. Halfway there Karl spots Fargrim who is heading for the adventurer’s guild himself. Fargrim grumbles about not being allowed to copy the runes from the circle and Karl explains the dangers and reasons behind that. Fargrim ends up walking with Erin, Karl and Inden back to the Mage Guild as Karl tells Fargrim about the robbery.
Lily keeps researching.
- The Basilisk was once a man of the Khinasi, but he retains little of his original appearance, being almost entirely reptilian in appearance. Green scales cover his body, a fan-like crest runs along his back spotted with red, and he has a long prehensile tail. He walks upon his eight legs, only the first two legs could be used as arms and hands, each hand/foot has but two powerful claw-like fingers. Strong red-brown plates of armour cover the Basilisk's chest and run down the centre of his back either side of his fan-like crest. The Basilisk's mouth is large and full of sharp teeth. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the Basilisk is not however his entirely bestial looks, but, in the words of Cidro bin Ariya the noted explorer; 'his ungodly smell'. The Basilisk can be smelt for miles downwind and on a calm day his scent lingers for weeks - the smell is a caustic reek that unnerves animals and is deeply unpleasant to any human with a functioning nose.Perhaps the most notable aspect of the Basilisk is not however his entirely bestial looks, but, in the words of Cidro bin Ariya the noted explorer; 'his ungodly smell'. The Basilisk can be smelt for miles downwind and on a calm day his scent lingers for weeks - the smell is a caustic reek that unnerves animals and is deeply unpleasant to any human with a functioning nose.
- The Boar is a huge white furred boar, or more accurately sow. The boar is the size of a small house, at least 12 feet tall at the shoulder and by some rumours larger still. Its tusks are the size of small logs, and its squeal of rage can be heard from miles away. The first rumours of the Boar reached Muden perhaps 35 years ago. The tales, like the boar itself, have only grown with the passing years. The Boar is said to have slain a scion of Azrai and usurped the scion's bloodline. Successive scions of Anuire and Brechtur have since hunted the Boar, with their bloodlines merely feeding its own.
- The Chimaera was once a wizardess known as Danita Kusor with a penchant for necromancy, and an alchemical specialist by trade. With skills learned from her parents (a Vos midwife and an elf herbalist), she specialized in creating potions and herbal remedies for common ailments like boils, warts, heartburn, rashes, and hair loss. She used the profits of her alchemical trade to finance her studies of death and her quest for immortality. She started to branch out with some of her creations as her alchemy improved. She slew it with an array of deadly spells, but she suffered grievous wounds in the process. With the Iron Troll's death, his birthright was released in an explosive display of energy drawn to both the wounded Danita and her inert creation (Another Awnshegh now known as Binman) in its alchemical bath, inundating them with cascading energy. After absorbing the blood taint of Azrai from the deceased awnshegh, the Binman quickened to life without being fully alive at the same time. It smashed its way out of its bonds and alchemical tank, soaking its wounded creator in the magically charged chemicals. The Binman tried to kill her in that moment but she fleed for her life.Over the past century, Danita's form has advanced further into an awnshegh state, though due to the odd circumstances of her power acquisition, she can revert to her original form for short periods of time. Neither her Chimaera form nor her true half-elven form are fully sane, but she is a bit more lucid in female form; her beast-form is feral and dangerous. Since her initial transformation, she allegedly can wear her normal form only when calm or under a full moon, though this may be little more than a false tale. Danita Kusor has been seen in a number of forms over the past few decades, and there seems to be little rhyme or reason to her shapechanging other than her own will. With her newly assumed power, Danita used her burgeoning might to exert her will over the areas surrounding her tower, and the land now bears her name as the Chimaeron.
- The Drake, who calls himself Saeryk the Warlock, is a powerful warlock, a master thief, and a regent with a bloodline strong enough to rival the raw power of the true dragons. He is cruel, ruthless, and strong enough to storm out of the Stonecrown Mountains when his plans are ripe. Those in the know fear that the time is drawing nigh.
- The Elf, also known Rhuobhe Manslayer in Anuire. When Azrai approached the elves with his plans to destroy the humans, Rhuobhe eagerly signed on. Later, when the elf armies deserted the foul god upon the realization of what he stood for, Rhuobhe remained with the god of evil. Indeed he was astonished that his fellows would abandon their hatred for humans so quickly. As a result of his loyalty and hatred he was bathed in Azrai's essence and transformed into an abomination. Rhuobhe Manslayer has since used his powers to further his agenda of human destruction. Establishing himself in a strategically important pass between the Seamist and the Stonecrown mountain ranges, he has harried and bedevilled humans for nearly 1.500 years.Rhuobhe now pends his time plotting the downfall of humanity from his fortress on the shores of a snow-fed lake in the Seamist mountains. He has gathered a force of elves loyal to his cause and twisted by their association with it. His hatred for humanity grows a little each year, and wit it his rages, but so far he has been able to control them and retain his ability to conduct subtle, long-term plots.
Karl, Erin and Inden go to see Miss Berry who is so very happy to see Inden again. They go to have tea in Miss Berry’s office. As they have tea, Karl tells Miss Berry of the collar on Erin and sees if they can help with this at all. Miss Berry examines it. The item is like a parasite and has forced a connection with Erin. It has elements of Kriesha connected to it and the hells. They ponder what this means while Karl looks over items available for sale and receives the scroll of Greater Steed for Lily. Karl is also paid out for items the guild has sold on his behalf. Afterwards they head off to the Attractive Avocado to speak with Mary. They speak with her about the witches. Mary had gone to look into the places the witches are staying. Mary agrees to make a map for them but will need a few hours. As a result Erin and Karl go around to look at the shops to see if they can find something to help with Erin’s defence. Karl ends up buying a cloak of protection, speaking stones, and a ring of protection. They head back to the inn to have a late lunch at 2pm and have a short rest.
At 12:30pm Lily, Fargrim and Molly arrive at the guild. Lily heads straight up to take the remaining items she had stored here and put them in her bag of holding. Then heads for the mansion to see who is available. There are six people around:
- Marabel and Lancion
- Jysdar
- Emelia
- Queg
- A Fawn - Lady Dapple
Lily finds Xeldarix near her tempe, watching from the rooftops. It seems Xeldarix is unsure about seeing her people and just wanted to check on them without them seeing her. She is worried they will not like this version of her. Lily offers to go and speak with them and explain the situation and Xeldarix agrees to this. Lily flies down to the temple and finds Selise and Hope. She explains to Selise what happened to Xeldarix recently which means she has matured but was hurt in the process. She requests Selise gather the followers so Lily can speak with them. While Selise does this Lily explains Xeldarix to Hope, including her origins. During this conversation Lily suggests Hope becomes Laerme’s voice within this temple and shared space. Afterwards Lily addresses the followers of Xeldarix. The short version of what happened to Xeldarix recently is explained and Xeldarix’s concerns are shared with how she might be perceived now. Only she will not be so open with her affection. The group immediately starts plotting ways to make her feel better. Afterwards Lily goes to see the children and spend half an hour playing with them. Near the end of this time Lily notices Godwyn has turned up talking with Hope and a strange purple sparkly elf. The elf only seems to speak elvish. It seems Fargrim has sent for them.
Fargrim talks with Emilia, Raiarr, and Khee. There is a lot of bath and forth about the plan and a bit of confusion. Godwyn is sent to get Hope and Captain Celaser after Fargrim reviews the list of fish that have been rescued. Once they have a rough plan that involves the three of them staying here and Fargrim going to get help from the watch. At the watch Fargrim is forced to wait in line and speaks with the front desk. At first he reports the robbery and finds this was reported last night. However, he updates the information to a suspected found place and requests guards to go with them since anyone of higher rank is busy. Their names are Sam and Jamie. They had back for the inn.
Lily, Celaser, Hope and Godwyn agree they need to head back to the inn. Lily goes separately to finish playing with the children before going back to Xeldarix. She learns Xeldarix went for a walk last night because she got bored with how much everyone sleeps. They agree from now on Xeldarix will leave a note before going for her walks alone. Xeldarix and Lily fly back to the inn.
At 3pm Mary comes over to see Karl and Erin. She has the map for them, but will only discuss it in a private room. Karl gets the sense that Mary is being flirty and would love to try and steal Karl away. Mostly for the drama rather than for anything horrible. She looks a little bored and is looking to poke who she can. Not going to kill Karl yet. Was being honest about it probably being a bad idea to speak publicly about what she has for Karl. Karl allows Mary to take him and Erin to a private room. The witches have spies in town, much like Mary does. Mary estimates there are six witches and then their thralls. Mary advices the West for approach. There are three layers of protection around the tree. The two outer ones seem to be compelling wards. There are bogs that petrify those who touch it. There are many moving towards the tree and some running from the tree that are now frozen in place. The last ward means creatures like Xeldarix might get bound to this location into service. After getting this information Karl and Erin leave, heading back to the university where they need to wait to get the teleportation circle free to head back. As they pass by Miss Berry’s office Erin gets the belt of dragonkind.
At 3pm a few minutes after Fargrim returns with two guards, Lily and Xeldarix walk in. A sparkly purple elf is waiting with Godwyn, Hope, Khee, Raiarr and Emelia. The elf is the Captain Celaser. They start to head for the warehouse and plan on the way. Godwyn is constantly translating for Celaser since she does not speak Brecht. The plan is for Emilia and Raiarr to go in and scout the building before coming back out to report what they find. Raiarr is able to unlock the door when they arrive and the sneak inside. They don’t see anyone but can hear loud snoring coming from one of the rooms. They come back out to report and bring everyone in. During that time the snoring has stopped. They sneak inside and find Rini at the back with one of the doors. However Mirime is waiting and grabs Lily. There is a fight, but through the power of Hold Monster it is not actually a fight. Rini and Mirime are taken into custody. Fargrim finds a trapped door. The missing items are on Rini and Mirime. Lily takes them back. The group then heads back to the inn after escorting the guards with the two criminals back to the watch headquarters. Everyone who helped was paid 20g except for Lily and Fargrim. When they arrive at the inn, Lily speaks to Molly to arrange for Tatiana to interrogate the pair and for Tatiana to come see Lily later that night to deliver a report. Lily also checks in with Dwyane who has hired a pottery teacher and is slowly getting people into positions.
At 5pm everyone, including Karl and Erin, arrive back at the manor. Erin takes the time to attune to one of her items, Karl heads to the bank to get the rest of the money he owes Enna. Fargrim helps Caramella in the kitchen and they have a very confusing discussion about Erin. Lily reads her book. At 6pm the group has dinner and after dinner Karl shares with the group what he learned from Mary as they consider their options for dealing with the witches. They consider sending some of the guild instead of going themselves. At 7pm Enna arrives and is disappointed when Karl shields so a bag of coins Erin requested doesn’t hit Karl. They have an exchange where Enna switches from wanting to kidnap Erin to just being happy to have her back. Not long after that Tatiana arrives to see Lily and hand over the report. The group gets ready and gets some rest for the night. Though Lily does scry on Yura before bed and gets some very disturbing information before she also heads to bed.
