Session 65: Playing with Fire Report
General Summary
23rd of Anarire 1524 continued Karl identifies the The gauntlets of Ogre Power, Crystal ball of True Seeing and a Luck blade (2 wishes). The group counts 15000g and 1700p. They agree to dump some of the gold into the other treasure room and take the platinum from there since they can’t carry it all. The leave 3137 gold in that room to take the platinum instead. Karl uses that time to identify another few items like the +1 shield, +2 studded leather armour and +1 Bronze Dragon Scale Male. They leave the lair at 11am. From there Karl went to the mage guild to get help, while Lily goes to the manor to get Alfonso to pick up timber and Fargrim heads to Jo’s Magnificent Mansion to check on the people there. Lily goes to the inn after getting the timber and meets up with Fargrim. Fargrim has compiled a list of the lost items from the people here. Meanwhile Lily puts up a notice in the library to request people put their name down if they are interested in joining an adventuring guild. This would provide them with lodging, training spaces, and equipment. Afterwards Fargrim and Lily head out to Buy plates, bowls, other cooking ware, training dummies and targets and then buy the items the people need to be delivered at 8am the next day. This costs Fargrim 1000g and Lily 25g. Afterwards, once Lily’s stuff has been dropped off the items and spoken with Dwyane. As the group walks, in a side alley, the little white bat sees a strange small but tall tent. Fargrim and Lily miss it. However, Xochitl gets Lily’s attention to point it out. Lily asks Fargrim to take Xeldarix and the cart back to the manor. Xeldarix is unhappy Lily is going somewhere she can’t follow. She gives Lily a flower and tells her to eat it if she is in trouble. Lily heads inside the tent, leaving Xeldarix and Fargrim outside.
Karl works with the apprentices to identify the remaining items:
- Potions of healing x3
- Potion of Resistance (fire)
- Bag of holding
- Dust of dryness x2
- Potion of greater healing x3

Fargrim does his best to try and console Xeldarix who is still not happy Lily is gone. However, this jogs Xeldarix’s memory about the book seller, the fawn and the fact that once, before she was hurt, that Xeldarix had warned them against going back there. This enrages her. Fargrim tries to reassure her that he is here but she is quick to correct him; she is upset because her advice has been ignored. Like because she forgot she gave it, that makes it okay to ignore. Fargrim asks her about stabbing him in the shoulder when asking her to wait for Lily to return to talk to her, which confuses her. In the end Fargrim jogs more of her memory about first meeting them which makes her head hurt. Fargrim hurries her home. They arrive at 2pm.
Lily enters the tent and is greeted by mimicking books when she calls out. The Fawn appears and Lily asks if she knowns Abigail, which the Fawn neither confirms or denies since there are so many out there with such a name. Lily tells the Fawn about what she is after. A book called Infrastructure of Mechanus, getting back the sphere and a new sword, while returning one sword and book while offering up Gus for trade as well. The Fawn is willing to take the sword and book that has been given to Lily as returns for the sphere. Returns for returns. She will trade Gus for a new sword, but the book will require… something else. Lily negotiates books from the dragon’s lair and the Fawn promises to think about it while Lily goes to get the items since she doesn’t have them on her right this second. Lily takes off her non-detection amulet to allow the Fawn to read her mind for the manor's location. Lily can feel the Fawn trying to push deeper but she resists this. When Lily exits the tent she is in the backyard of the manor.
Fargrim takes Xeldarix to her room where she gets her wings out to hug herself. He talks with her and she is upset that she feels like no one listens to her, especially since her head broke. They discuss good and bad acts, and coming back from bad acts that doesn’t make them okay… but you’re trying. They discuss a few things Xeldarix remembers about Basaia, where she is from, getting the knitting needles. Afterwards Fargrim goes to check on Caramella. Caramella promises to bring up some tea for Xeldarix upon learning she is upset. There he learns Erin and Karl are upstairs somewhere. Caramella also gives Fargrim a note from Lyra since he had last left a note stating that he wanted to ask her a favour. The note he receives just says “What?” Fargrim takes the time to detail a note back about the Hatchling and asking Lyra to train it to hunt. Karl goes looking upstairs but forgets about the magical manor and starts yelling for Karl when Caramella comes to see him to remind him about the extra space.
At 3pm Fargrim is brought to Karl by spectral servants. Erin is there too. Stealing grapes off Karl as he writes and his wine. Fargrim updates Karl on the situation with Xeldarix and Lily. Fargrim asks Karl about his plans. Karl is nearly finished copying a spell from Xeldarix’s spellbook to allow Karl to talk to people on other planes for 10 minutes and the risks that comes with it. Karl finally notices Erin has been stealing his food and wine. Fargrim carefully looks at Erin with this exchange. Fargrim realising a few things between the pair excuses himself. Fargrim goes to see Simone while Karl goes back to scribing.
Lily enters the manner and heads down into the basement to get Gus, which leaves her very muddy. Before going up to see Karl. She requests Falak’s journal, but he is unwilling to part with it. After that Lily leaves again into the tent in the backyard.
Fargrim talks with Simone about her Ladyship and the fact she is still not exactly happy about following that through. She talks about bad things that will happen without being clear on it. They are distracted from the conversation by the hatchling where Fargrim encourages to ask Simone questions but Simone reminds Fargrim the hatchling doesn’t talk. Afterwards Fargrim promises to bring Simone some food before going down to help with dinner. However he finds that Caramella isn’t in the kitchen. He then goes to check on Xeldarix. He finds the tea but not Xeldarix. Fargrim gets a very worried and casting Sending to Uqaviel and learns they are on the roof. He goes to the window to have a better conversation with Uqaviel and learns Caramella went into a tent and disappeared. Fargrim then takes charge of dinner with Caramella gone.
Lily returns to talk to the Fawn and continues to make her deals for items. Lily warns her about the wards that can affect those who breathe water. The Fawn agrees to check on her collection to ensure that they will be okay. As Lily goes over to see the ‘collection’ in the reading corner, she finds Caramella reading a book there. While the Fawn checks on things Lily brings Caramella to her senses. Lily requests that Caramella be allowed to leave and the Fawn allows it in exchange for a cake and a bottle of sweet wine. There will be a ring of mushrooms under the tree for them to be placed in. Caramella is allowed to leave the tent. The Fawn and Lily continue to talk to about deals. The Fawn agrees to give Lily the book she wants in exchange for 3 books from Falak’s lair or something else she likes within the room as long as it is not alive or something Lily has brought into the room. Once again Lily allows the Fawn to look into her mind for the location of the lair and a nearby place the tent could go. Lily prays to Xeldarix for Bless twice since the area in the lair is too warded for the tent to get in. With the tent relocated, the pair exit the tent to head for the lair. The Fawn zips up the tent which makes it invisible.
At 5:30pm Karl finishes copying his spell. He has some private time with Erin, cleaning up considering they spent the morning in the sewer again. Then going to check on Xeldarix. He finds her climbing into her room from the window. He talks Xeldarix through some of the feelings she is going through like Fargrim had, reaffirming many of the same ideas. Karl encourages Xeldarix to talk to them about what she remembers to try and help with some of the hurt she is feeling right now. They head down together for dinner with Erin.
At 6pm Fargrim starts to prepare dinner. He prepares places with a starter bowl of cream of broccoli soup. When Karl remarks on the cooking, Fargrim mentions that Caramella has gone missing into the booksellers tent. Erin pours some wine for herself and Karl, but Xeldarix wants some too. Fargrim brings out a rack of lamb cooked just right, with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed asparagus. He’s not overly happy to see Xeldarix having wine. However, he says nothing as he quickly takes some of the food up to Simone. As Fargrim returns and they eat dinner. Xeldarix plays with the little trees in her soup while the others talk. They discuss Simone and the Hatchling with the fact that might now be an issue separating them now. Xeldarix asks them why Simone isn’t coming with them anymore and the conversation gets to about leaving people and it being okay. At this point Xeldarix feels Lily asking for Bless. She gets really upset as she considers not giving it, but then feels horrible for that idea since Lily might be really in need so allows Lily to have the spell. When Bless is requested and give a second time, Xeldarix stands up at the table, tripping over a chair slightly. At this point there is the sound of the front door slamming and footsteps running towards the room. Karl rushes to see who that was and a very wet, wide eyed Caramella is in the front foyer, looking confused. She starts to apologises for dinner not being ready and is very upset. Karl asks her about the tent and Caramella tells him she noticed it and thought it was a new tent for Simone so went to make sure Simone was okay. Then there were books and a strange lady. It wasn’t long and now it’s so late and somehow she ended up in the port itself. Hearing all this Xeldarix leaves the room, growling. Karl and Fargrim get Caramella to eat something and to sit in order to calm down a little. They learn Caramella needs to make a cake and leave it within a mushroom circle out back. Fargrim takes this time to go outside and find Xeldarix. He notices another wine bottle is missing. Karl continues to reassure Caramella everything is okay and help her with drying off and warming up.
Lily and the Fawn go down to the lair, but the Fawn does not like to water. She casts water walk so she doesn’t have to step in it and gives the same blessing to Lily. As they get to the area with the fish, Lily tries once again to see if the Fawn knows Abigail but doesn’t get any confirmation. Upon seeing the chaos spike the Fawn declares that is what she will take this for the book. The Fawn admits it will be tricky to remove. She will need to come back once she has removed some of the wards to take it, which Lily says that shouldn’t be an issue. As they leave the Fawn stops as many of the pillars in order to scratch at some of them. When they arrive back at where the tent is hidden, Lily sees the Fawn giving something to a rat before unzipping the air to make the tent appear. They re-enter the tent.
Fargrim finds Xeldarix on the roof, though he cannot see her. Only hear her when he calls out. He asks her to come down for a hug, which she does at great speed. There is a beating of wings and suddenly Fargrim is knocked off his feet as her is practically tackled by Xeldarix who is sobbing with a half empty wine bottle as she lays on top of him upon "landing". Fargrim acts as the teddy bear she needs until he has decided he has had enough and asks Xeldarix to let go. Which she does and rolls off him to curl up into a ball. At this stage Karl and Erin come outside to find them. They talk Xeldarix through what she is feeling. She tells them she feels betrayed, lonely and in the bad place. Through some questions it seems Xeldarix is experiencing flashbacks. Karl suggests Xeldarix stay with Simone and the hatchling tonight so she won’t be alone. Xeldarix becomes more quiet and apathetic on the matter and just follows them as they head up to see Simone. They find Simone reading a book from Anubis about realm magic. This prompts Karl to ask her about Realm magic and the ability to preserve bloodlines. Simone says she can do that. It is the one spell she knows. She will need to be at the temple, have 4000 gold, a gem worth 1000 (Rubies for Anduiras, black sapphires for Azrai, yellow topaz for Basaïa, orange jacinths for Brenna, blue sapphires for Masela, emeralds for Reynir, and diamonds for Vorynn) and time to recover since it will leave her weaker for a month. She explains that for other spells like crops and empowering armies, she can only do it for those in the realm she controls unless she controls all the points in her realm. Then she can push her power onto realms around her. There are two more places of power near the mountain in Trestahlen of Muden where her power resides. Simone also doesn’t want to leave the manor since she knows she has spent too much time away from the shades and visions. She tells them it will catch up with her, but that makes it hard to want to leave. Fargrim compares this to a fart and the conversation becomes a little awkward. Karl wraps up this part of the conversation by reassuring Simone that if she wants to talk about what she sees with him she can, even if they’re not about him or the group. He is here for her as a friend. This upsets Simone a little since they will leave soon and she will be lonely again. Fargrim reassures her she will make new friends and they will come back often. This brings up the Hatchling leaving, which just makes the list of those leaving Simone longer. Though she does admit she cannot take care of a baby dragon when she struggles to take care of herself at times. They move on to contacting Fikra. Karl does sending first to warn her before using the ritual. Karl opens his spellbook and sets it down on the grass next to him, then pulls out Xeldarix's rune-inscribed bowl and sets it in his lap. He pulls a knife from his belt and slices across his hand to drip blood into the bowl while he begins chanting softly in draconic. As Karl finishes the ritual he needs to make con save as the drops of blood rapidly start to flow out of Karl to fill the bowl. Simone casts Bless on him as he finishes the ritual. The loss of blood takes it’s toll on Karl and makes him exhausted, but the spell works. As Karl feels like wave of exhaustion hit him, the bleeding stops and the blood in the bowl seems to flicker. The blood flickers again and looking upon his own reflection it starts to change and flames are visible in blood reflection. Karl's face changes to become a woman's face with a vail. They discuss the Hatchling and Fikra’s return to the plane with her family. Karl needs to talk with Sunnis before coming to get Fikra. He will send her a warning before they try to teleport over. As soon as Karl and Fikra are done talking, Erin is fussing over Karl and wrapping up his hand. Fargrim asks Karl some questions to make sure he is not crazy. Karl wants to go to the guild, but Erin insists on checking that Steve is at the guild before going. She steps out the manor to contact him and returns with the information Steve is with his family right now. They agree to meet Steve in the morning instead. They talk about protecting themselves while on the plane with the fire resistance potions. Erin reminds Karl that she is sailing out tomorrow and about noon she will need to head out to the boat. The conversation changes to continue to talk about if Simone can protect Karl’s bloodline should he be killed. Fargrim, upon learning how this will impact Simone, does not like the idea and says as much. Karl also wants to protect Erin’s bloodline, but Simone says she will have to wait a month to do so as she is weakened and exhausted by the stress of using such magic. Karl is also concerned about how this effects Simone, but is aware of how attractive his bloodline is to others. This means they need protection for Simone, especially as she warns the Unchained will come for her when they know she is back. The group decides to do a reading on the fish they rescued to see if any of them might be a good fit for Simone to protect and help her. Karl asks: “Will any of the people we rescued from a fishy existence be trustworthy and valiant protectors for Simone?” Answer: “The Lady Dread’s feeling of abandonment grows as she takes up the position within Brechlen. A loving protector is needed in the form of those with big hearts, those who flock together and those connected to fae or other wild magicks. These protectors will be able to support the growth of the Lady regardless of whether she is working towards her personal goals or those for the greater part of her realm without being bullied or made to feel less.” They discuss if Simone should go to meet some of them tomorrow or head down to the lair, but Simone doesn’t think the hatchling will like that. She is unwilling to leave the Hatchling alone. When the conversation wraps up Simone goes back to reading. Karl and Fargrim head off to bed.
The Fawn invites Lily to sit with her at a table while she looks over the sword of Gus. The fawn looks it over and questions Lily on it and her needs for a new sword. Lily is shown three weapons. The fawn reaches down under the table and pulls out a battleaxe and places it on the table called the Glutton’s Cleaver. It has a red metal that runs through the blade like veins. A gift from the Mother of Redcaps. This axe strikes deepest when it scents a creature’s lifeblood. Not for every hit, but your first strike every few seconds or so. The fawn reaches down and this time pulls up a rapier called Midwinter. The metal is blue and the black hand has beautiful silver detailing that looks like snowflakes. When you hurt someone with this it will chill them to their very core. If you chose to take some damage yourself you can try and make your enemy more empathetic to your situation. Making them take on whatever is affecting yourself. If you have some condition, like the exhaustion you mentioned earlier it will affect them in your place. Until they die or fall unconscious in some fashion. Also very good at hitting things, or improving your ability to do so anyway. One of the stronger ones for that. It also allows you to protect yourself better in a pinch depending on your personality level. The more charismatic you are, which you seem to do well enough, the better you will be able to deflect blows. Dazzle them as it were. The fawn nods and pulls out one last weapon called Sorika’s Cleaving Blade. A silver longsword that seems to almost warp in the light. A blade that changes form to suit the user and is better at cutting through creatures. Not as good as the last, but any creature that would resist damage that can be overcome by having silver or has a weakness to silver will suffer extra damage. Lily selects Midwinter and the Fawn has to leave to go and find the sphere. After an unknown amount of time, she returns. Lily focuses on not getting lured in by the tent’s intoxication by reciting some of the prayers she wrote for Xeldarix. The Fawn offers to let Lily stay to attune to her new weapon, but Lily is ready to go. The Fawn confesses she has been redirecting Lily’s connection to Xeldarix to avoid any distracting emotions that are coming from her currently. 24th of Anarire 1524 As Lily steps outside the tent she finds herself... not in the city. She is in the plains. It is dark outside. The stars are in the sky and the moon is half full. With her connection to Xeldarix no longer being messed with she can sense Xeldarix is SE of her. She turns into a celestial imp and then into a Dove to start flying back. Two and a half hours later, at 5:30am, Lily flies back to the manor and finds Xeldarix sitting on the roof. Lily chirps at her before turning back to her usual form. Lily apologises for the connection being interfered with and being gone so long. Xeldarix tries to explain why she is upset with Lily ignoring advice Xeldarix didn’t remember at the time giving. It ends in a crying hug. However, Lily is tired and after a while asks Lily to fly her down so she might go to bed. Xeldarix agrees.
At 6am Fargrim and Karl get up to start their day. Karl notices Lily has returned, but allows her to sleep and heads to breakfast. Erin is with Karl and the group discusses their plans for the day. During this time Erin is drinking wine for breakfast, which Fargrim believes to be a little odd. Erin prompts Karl to share the dangers of the city of Brass with Fargrim. He tells Fargrim that the City of Brass is run by the efreeti. Evil fire genies. They're mean, arrogant slavers. There's a chance they see the group and decide they would make good slaves. There's also a chance they see the group and assume they're powerful plane walkers who are there to trade. Fargrim wants to know if they need protection against heat. So he contacts Steve. Steve replies inside the city they would be okay. However, outside they would need protection or start to catch fire. Worse if they end up on the sea of fire. Afterwards they leave to go and feed the fish before arriving at the guild at 8am. After discussing their plans for the plane of fire, Erin is asked to wait outside so the group may go down and talk to Sunnis. There they negotiate with Sunnis. Sunnis agrees that Fikra can stay with her family on the mountain with a few conditions. The Forged must help Sunnis relocate to the mountain. She will be vulnerable while transporting her prisoner. It is up to the group how they want to get her there. Also, she must meet with Sunnis to ensure they are agreeable with one another and have an understanding. They head back up towards the guild, Karl learning Zaaman Rul is a prince of fire like Sunnis. He’s on the plane of fire, but he is in hiding. They are friendly and an ally with Sunnis. As they get back upstairs at 9am, Fargrim realises he has missed his delivery time for the equipment he order by an hour. He races off to do that while Karl collects Erin to go and see if they can find more means of fire resistance. Trinity is willing to loan one item of hers to Karl. He attunes to it.
Fargrim arrives at the guild to find Dwyane had received the deliveries. Fargrim takes the time to one by one give out the items. He makes sure to tell those who order “master locksmith tools” that they cannot use them to terrorize the town. Riarr is insulted by this and makes it known in his intense way. Afterwards Fargrim heads back to the guild.
When Fargrim arrives, Steve ritually casts water walk on the group just in case they end up on the sea of fire. Karl casts a message to Fikra to let them know they are about to leave. As Steve planeshifts them to the plane of fire, using the teleportation circle to protect the plane from breeches, and they are greeted by a wave of heat as they are standing on the sea of fire. Erin, Fargrim and Steve quickly drink their potions while Karl contacts Fikra to tell her that they have ended up 30 miles away from the city on the plane of fire. Fikra tells them she will try to reach them in time. Fargrim send her an updated sending message with direction as Karl casts Fly on the three of them while Steve turns into an air elemental. They being their made flight towards the city. Karl recasting fly and eventually Steve has to carry Erin as Karl cannot sustain three people of flight for an hour. As the hour passes and their potions start to wear off and their fly spell start to fail the group, Karl casts feather fall. They had only made it 12 miles, not even halfway to the city. Then, they see a large red dragon flying and roaring loudly. Karl uses the drift globe to get her attention as her trajectory is slightly off and the dragon catches them as they fall towards the lava. Steve quickly turns back to himself to planeshift the group back to the guild. They arrive, on top of a large red dragon, back in the guild. Fikra’s husband, Kareem, and daughter, the red hatchling Mahdia, were also on her back. The red dragon is exhausted from flying at full speed to meet the group before they meet an untimely burning end in lava. The hatchling is jumping on her mother, full of beans, while Kareem checks on his wife. Karl helps everyone off Fikra. Erin is clearly not doing well after going to the plane of fire. Fikra turns back into her human form, where Kareem supports her. Steve takes them down to meet Sunnis while Karl, Erin and Fargrim rest in the foyer. Erin is given water which she dumps on her head and then drinks some. At noon they arrive back at the manor with their new guests for the night. They are all taken up to meet Simone. Simone is unsure of the group and Mahdia oversteps many boundaries with the Hatchling. After chasing the Hatchling out of a tree, Fikra sends her daughter and husband to go make themselves comfortable in the area Karl has prepared. Erin threatens Kareem if he does anything to Karl when she isn’t around. Erin reassures him that she is being nice… in her own way when he tries to remind her that they are meant to be playing nice. Erin excuses herself to the baths while everyone else has lunch. The group discusses the wishes of the sword while Fikra, Simone and the Hatchling have private discussions. They believe that using the wishes to give out two forms of resistance to damage among those who were part of the effort to fight Falak. The group is set on fire for one of the resistance. Karl goes to get Erin to discuss this and the items to be given out from the hord. She is sleeping in a bath, which Karl wakes her from. She is looking a lot better after the soak. She agrees to contact Wave to talk to Enna and says that they will need to either do the wishes before they set sail or wait til they come back. Especially when she learns that they have to be present for the wish. Lily has finished resting and is reading for the remainder of her rest. At 1:30 she starts to attune to her new sword and the luck bade. The group goes about contacting everyone to get them to the manor, including Nura. However, Nura says she is bringing Xardos with her and leaves no room for arguing. Fargrim finds himself nervous as he doesn’t want to unnecessarily share the wishes they have. He is nervous in case the weapon belonged to Xardos. By 3:30pm everyone arrives. To start with they distribute the items to those who want them and mark what needs to be sold. Simone is brought down to be a part of the wish section. She brings the hatchling with her. Her earrings are on and she is using her hands to avoid looking around at places. Lily wishes for fire resistance for the group. However as she feels herself weakened from the spell, she can feel her connection to that type of magic break. She knows she cannot cast wish again. When all the wizards and clerics get nervous about this happening to them, Steve volunteers to attune to the blade and make the next wish. While this happens Fargrim notices Simone fitting. Fargrim hears her mutter two things: Upon the day steel turns to rust an overheard conversation causes the monsters to run. Upon the day dogs bark and birds flee, two brothers awaken a new unity. After that she is incoherently muttering to herself and unaware of her surroundings. Fargrim casts calm emotions but it doesn’t have the effect he was hoping for. He takes her upstairs and back to the magical manor. After a short time Simone comes round. This has clearly tired her out. Fargrim stays with her until it is time for the next casting, but he talks with her that this isn’t healthy and she needs to spend more time outside the spaces where she escapes her gifts. Simone agrees but she isn’t happy about this as she likes having no shades at her all the time. She knows she can’t keep this up though. At 4:30pm Steve casts the second wish for necrotic damage resistance. However, like Lily he loses his connection to this type of magic. He asks Karl if he may stay here tonight instead of going back to his wife in this state. Lily and Steve will both be weakened for 3 days. Fargrim is allowing Lily to borrow his gauntlets until this wears off. At this point Lily attunes to that, Karl escorts Enna and Erin to the ship to say goodbye for now and Fargrim heads back to the inn to talk to those who were prophesied to be good to help Simone. Fargrim tries to be discrete about Simone’s abilities, but this makes most of them unsure. When the Unchained is brought up, Abigail demands to be brought to Simone to discuss this. She will take the job. Fargrim does take her, but it makes him nervous. By the time he returns, so does Karl at 5:30pm. They go up to speak with Abigail and Simone. Simone had been sleeping, but Fargrim woke her. It turns out not only does Abigail know about the Unchained, but she knows about the circle of Willows and was trying to get more information about them when her investigation was interrupted by a dragon.
