Session 63: Speed Dispelling Report

General Summary

19th of Anarire 1524 continued     As they rest and recover some… Erin and Aeyrn hear something moving under Fargrim’s bed. Aeyrn goes to investigate and discoveries in the corner under Fargrim's bed is a very scared looking baby black dragon that is currently trying to make itself as small as possible but the right side of its body doesn't move well. It has something wrong with its right wing and back leg. Every snore from Fargrim startles it.   Aeyrn’s gentle chirping gets Lily’s attention. Lily gets an image of a tiny black dragon in her head as Aeryn cranes her head back around to look at Lily. This has Lily up and out of bed since she has to see this for herself. Meanwhile, Fargrim wakes his noise and movements continue to scare the little thing. Aeryn sends Karl images of what she sees which allows him to update Trinity and Steve on what has been found. As Steve moves quickly, Karl warns him that all the noise everyone is making is scaring it. They need to be softer in their movements.   Fargrim wants to get off the bed but is concerned and annoyed that the dragon might bite his ankles off. Lily casts Calm Emotions to help keep the little one calm so Fargrim may get off the bed. She reaches out for the dragon to be able to sniff her hand. It does sniff, but is very careful to stay out of reach to avoid being grabbed. Lily gives it some rations, which it devours quickly as if starving. Lily asks Karl to talk with the baby. They try various languages and the mask, but the dragon never replies.   While the group discusses the manner, the baby dragon carefully moves up to peek over the bed from the back but retreats when it sees Fargrim still in the bed. It's relying mostly on its left leg and arms to pull itself up. The leg doesn't look... like the other strong leg. Looks withered and weak. Fargrim gets out the bed and before Fargrim can turn around the baby has pulled the pillow down to the edge of the bed but it gets stuck between the bed and wall. It makes a few chirping noises. Karl goes to grab the bed and pull it away from the wall so the pillow is unstuck. There is a surprised chirp and a tiny thud as the dragon and the pillow hit the floor. Karl looks under the bed to see the dragon crawling out from under the pillow before getting into the pillow casing and curling up on the actual pillow material with its head facing out of the casing opening. It's chewing on it slightly. It makes another small sound.   The group talks about Brygo and Pemri. If they can find Brygo, maybe he can lift Pemri out of the water. The baby dragon could be given to the mage guild. However, Karl remembers he knows a mother dragon who owes the group a favour. He wants to ask Sunnis if she will share the mountain with Fikra. Steve believes she will if the group helps with the move to the mountain.   Karl notices that Fargrim, Lily and Simone are not doing well and need to be allowed to leave to get some rest. They talk about being careful with their magic because of the curse that hurts them when they cast. Trinity and Nura will escort them back out of the sewers. Steve, Erin and Enna will stay with Karl. While the group gets ready to leave, Karl and Erin look at the hags lair. There they find a chest. Once they come back they get everyone loaded into Lily’s folding boat and helping them on their way. There the group splits ways.

Karl, Erin, Enna and Steve follow the walls round. They find a tunnel that goes under water but leave it for now. They instead go to the door that Falak came from with the island to the South. Karl looks over the doors and finds it is magically trapped and locked. Karl can see it’s a teleportation rune. He has Aeryn try and damage the rune to disable it, but she disappears. Karl tries to pop her to the pocket plane and back to him but nothing happens. Karl think she is dead.   They leave this door and instead head to the West area where there is another door there. On the door it says "all trespassers will be eaten". There they find a desecrated altar to Masela and two doors. One has meat behind it and the other trophies collected from creatures that they have presumably eaten.   After checking out the area they head back to the trapped door. Karl tries to dispel the magical trap, but only succeeds in hurting himself with the bounce back from the spell. This has Erin fussing over Karl, and they draw the line here on exploration as Karl coughs and spits out blood on the floor. Erin tells Enna she will stay with Karl while the curse is in effect, but she should go back to ship as the First Mate. Erin and Enna bring up Pemri’s tail so Steve can try to heal the madness that keeps him from moving. However, like Karl he only succeeds in hurting himself. Steve takes a deep breath before turning into an Earth elemental and sinking to the bottom of the water. It takes a few minutes before Steve reappears in the shallows awkwardly carrying a bronze dragon.   It’s a slow process, but they do get Pemri to the abandoned inn. It’s helped by Karl reducing Pemri’s size for Steve to carry in Earth form. Karl decides to stay at the inn tonight with Pemri, which means Erin is also staying there. Enna and Steve head off. Erin and Karl work out watches, and he sets up the dome. By 8:30 Karl is out like a light.
At 8pm Fargrim, Lily, Simone and Xeldarix return to the estate. Very late for very tired adventurers. Simone smuggles the dragon away into her tent in her room but not before quickly seeing Caramella. There are small plates of meat, cheese and bread for people before they head to bed. Fargrim has a bath before bed. During this time he gets a message from Erin updating him on the fact they got Pemri out and are crashing at the inn tonight.   20th of Anarire 1524   Karl wakes up at 2:30am for his watch while Erin gets her four hours of rest. At 6:30am Erin wakes up from her trance. They reflect on the day before, the fight and the curse. They arrange a bit of a date before Erin leaves to get breakfast while Karl scribes. They’re waiting on Steve and Sam to come by to try and help Pemri.
Lily and Fargrim are up at 6am. Fargrim heads downstairs for pancakes while Lily checks on Simone and the Hatchling. Simone’s tent has a sign on it. "Not hungry. Sleeping." Lily leaves her for pancakes to talk with Fargrim. They discuss needing the Private Sanctum spell up and how it would hurt Simone to do, but it was needed.   Lily goes back to once again see Simone with a pancake for her. Simone is shivering with a bit of a chesty cough as Lily wakes her. Lily updates Simone that they are going out to do their research for the day and to ask about the spell. Simone reveals she already did the spell, and doesn’t eat the pancake but instead stuffs the pancake in her blanket that has a small lump that is moving around under it.   Fargrim and Lily head out, leaving Simone, Xeldarix, the Hatchling and Uqaviel at the estate. They begin their day of research.
At 7:30 am Erin returns with crepes. Erin had received information from Fargrim as they left to go do their research via the ring. Erin relays this to Karl.   Erin gives Karl her ring of regeneration since she is concerned about him and the curse that hurts him when he needs to cast spells as his main mode of defending himself. Erin receives the ring of spell storing in exchange for it. They take the time to attune.   At 8:30am the doors of the inn burst open and Gale, Steve’s wife storms in and slaps Erin. Gale is extremely upset that Steve not only went to fight a dragon and got cursed. Steve and Karl work together to get things a little calmer. Sam had come with Steve to try and help deal with the curse.   Sam takes the time to ritually cast identify. In the last few seconds before the ritual is finished Karl casts Enhance Ability of Sam. While the writing appears on Karl’s chest, Sam identifies the curse.
Sectum Sanguinum   The cursed target begins to bleed whenever it casts a spell. The spellcaster takes 1d6 x the spell level in necrotic damage each time it casts a spell. A d3 for cantrips. This necrotic damage does not interfere with the casting of the spell that triggers the bleeding, but it is considered continuous damage for the purpose of requiring Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration on a spell. The bleeding letters revealed by this spell are visible on the surface of any armour or clothing worn and are visible in bright or normal light and are not hidden by illusions. Thus, the bleeding runes clearly reveal the location of an invisible creature. The bloody letters are not visible in dim light or darkness, except to creatures with darkvision or blindsight.   Creatures able to see the bleeding runes form can identify the spell being cast, as described as the runes from the spells written form. The blood dries and flakes away 1 round after the bleeding stops.
They talk about trying to remove the curse and Gale insists that Steve be targeted first. Karl agrees since Steve needs to be able to heal Pemri’s mind. Sam traces his runes in the air and gently touches Steve's forehead. The runes shatter in the air instead of fading like when Karl saw it with Salma and his sister. From there his nose starts to bleed as the curse causes the spell to rebound and hurt Sam. The second attempt is much more successful. The curse is lifted from Steve. It takes 5 castings of Greater Restoration for Steve to be able to break the spell on Pemri.   Pemri is a little confused, so Karl catches him up to date. Pemri reveals that the doors to Falak’s inner lair are warded against non-dragons. If they aren’t a dragon they will be teleported away. Her hatchling was not to be interacted with unless it was out of the nursery. Then he was instructed to hurt it to make it regret leaving. The hatchling was Falak’s.   Sam tries to remove the curse from Karl, but fails and grows faint, unable to continue. The group wants to go find Brygo, but Sam will stay behind for a short rest.   Pemri seems to have a prejudice against dragons of certain colours. However when given the option of killing the hatchling, Pemri looks conflicted. Steve and Karl are both disappointed in this.   Once they head down to the lair and Pemri opens the doors so that way Karl and everyone else doesn’t have to touch them. It opens to her living space and Pemri takes them to the nest where he promptly tells everyone else to leave the room. While waiting for whatever Pemri is doing, Karl looks around the room with the Star to see that the fish in the tanks were various humanoids.   Karl uses mage hand to scoop up a fish to try and dispel the magic but Karl can’t manage it. He puts the fish back. After that Pemri carries Brygo out of the bedroom. Brygo can’t move or speak. Pemri opens the lab for the group but then leaves with Brygo to take him to their lair for safety. They look over the lab. Karl finds Falak’s diary. They then leave to try and look over the underwater tunnel.   Erin goes into the underwater tunnel to find it is the lair of the crocodiles. She got stuck and had to use her gaseous form to get free. The curse hits her for using the spell like effect. Erin comes out to explain she couldn’t search the area well due to all the remains in there. They go back to the lab to cast detect magic to finish searching the lab since Steve needs to get back to the guild. There are three magic books. The diary is magical. There is a magical headband on the purple crystal thing. The cauldron is magical. They grab everything and head back up to the Forged Grill to collect Sam and head for the guild.   When they reach the guild Karl goes up to see Master Barnes with Erin, but she is busy. So instead he goes to the library to see his friends.
Just after 10am Karl and Erin enter the library smelling of sewer, swamp and rotten things while carrying a cauldron. Karl, upon seeing their reactions, he uses Prestidigitation to clean himself and Erin up. Karl updates the group on what has happened this morning before he ritually starts to identify the items they found.
  • Circlet of Bale. When used with a chaos spike and the spell Baleful Polymorph the user can overcome the CR1 limit of the Polymorph spell to change them into anything permanently as long as you have components from that creature.
  • Cauldron of brewing +2. Gives someone +2 on their check for brewing potions.
  • Falak's Diary. The pages never run out. Only the user can randomly go through the dates to get to where they want. However objects that search books can still do this.
  • Arcane Grimoire +3
  • Manual of Bodily Health
  • Manual of Golems (Stone)
Karl spends some time looking through Falak’s journal with the bookmark they have. He searches:
  • Curses
  • Edlin
  • Full moon
There he discovers why Falak had a hatchling in her lair. She sacrificed them to restore her beauty.   At 11am Karl leaves the library to go up to see Master Barnes. There they discuss the curse, the idea of getting help from Poden, and Karl brings her up to speed about what has happened this morning. Karl asks her about Baleful Polymorph, but Master Barnes does not know the spell. Hearing about the rituals with the hatchlings breaks Master Barnes’ heart. She takes down dates of the purchases to look into.   Afterwards Erin and Karl head to a bathhouse to get properly cleaned up. They head to the ship afterwards to check in before heading back to the manor at 3:30pm. There Uqaviel tells them about angels being in the city. He’s not sure why they are here but it makes him nervous. It turns out Uqaviel was also hit by the curse.   Karl goes up to see Simone who is very unwell. He uses some of Keogham’s ointment which cures Simone of her disease as swamp water is expelled from her lungs and so is her lunch. Karl cleans it up with his magic. There Karl speaks with the hatchling who only replies with head movements and whimpers. The hatchling understands but will not speak.   Karl spends the rest of the time in the library reading Falak’s journal.
At 5pm Fargrim and Lily finish their research.   Lily’s research finds: The most expeditious means of doing so is the River Styx, which plunges ever deeper as it flows from one layer to the next. However it is the most dangerous for morals through touching it and what lives in it. No planar portals connect directly to the lower layers of the Nine Hells, by Asmodeus's orders. As such, the first layer of Avernus is the arrival point for visitors to the plane. Unless they have permission from someone high up they will be taken to Avernus and have to move through the hells that way to get where they want.   Fargrim’s research finds: 1. Time in the Astral flowed at the same rate on a Prime Material plane but the effects of time were slowed almost to a stop―a thousand years in the Astral plane felt like only a day to the traveller. Creatures did not go hungry or age while in the Astral plane. For that reason, its mortal inhabitants needed to return to the Material Plane in order to have children or to reach adulthood. 2. Entering the Astral plane could be accomplished in one of two ways: projecting your astral form into the plane via the astral projection spell, or by physically entering the plane. Astral projection was the safest way to travel but still involved risk because you left your physical body behind on the traveler's plane of origin. The astral body would be accompanied by the astral forms of any items and clothing that were magical or radiated a magic aura. While projecting, your astral self was connected to your physical body by a silver cord that stretched out behind you for about 10 feet (3 meters), or 1 foot (30 centimeters) depending on the version of the spell, and then became invisible and intangible. Very few things could sever this silver cord: a powerful psychic wind, a githyanki silver sword, or the will of gods. The physical body left behind appeared alive but did not require food, water, or air and did not age. It could be moved and was vulnerable to damage and death. If the traveller's physical body was slain, death followed the projection some minutes later. If the astral self was slain, the traveller then returned to his or her physical body in a coma. Physically entering the Astral plane required a spell such as plane shift and brought travellers wholly into the Astral with no silver cord to anchor them to their plane of origin. 3. All manner of fiends, celestials, slaadi and other planars used the Astral as short-cuts to their business elsewhere, but both astral devas and shedu patrolled the plane regularly to keep evil in check. Despite their connection to the Abyss, bebilith were thought to be at home on the Astral plane. The Astral Plane was the graveyard of the gods. If a deity, which could be considered among the greatest of concepts, died, its remnant were cast into this realm of thought. Here it remained as a floating "god-isle", a piece of solid matter within the endless empty void, with only a fraction of residual energy left.   At 5:30pm they arrive back at the manor. Erin updates Lily and Fargrim on the angel issue. They go to see Karl in the library. Karl shares with them Falak is not dead as she had a contingency plan. After talking about everything they go to check on Caramella and the state of dinner.   After the discussion, but before dinner Fargrim goes to see Uqaviel to update him on the information he got from his research. He briefly checks with Salma to make sure that no one has asked for divine aid there. She replies with the fact they haven’t. Uqaviel admits to knowing where the old gods currently lie and the fact that he has not told Xeldarix about this yet.
After dinner the group looks over what was found in the hags lair. Ivory coffer engraved with spirals. It contains; 1800g, 160p, 40s.   Then they go up to see Simone. Caramella has done some mashed potatoes for Simone with chives in it for Simone with a plain sausage if she wants it and a bowl of meat for the dragon lightly cooked. Karl takes the food up for Simone but hands it off to Fargrim as he goes to see about his sister and some alternative sleeping arrangement.   Lily heads to her room to read before bed and Fargrim heads to bed not long after.
Outside Saryea and Karl have a little chat where his sister is given some of the details about his day. Then he goes up to see Simone about a reading.   Question: “How can we safely remove the curse without relying on Sam?”   “This curse is a rite of passage that will change what binds you, but the rite is not for you.   Must reach out to one in need and help him grow so he may remove the curse in time.   He is stuck in his pain and this fear will lead to a bottle up of his natural power. He needs to grow into himself and his lair or Brechlen will sink.”   As Karl heads to bed, he does a few sending spells. One to Fikra as he tells her about the hatchling and check in on her and her hatchling. Karl does his best to get some information on raising a hatchling. He discusses the replies with Erin.   21st of Anarire 1524   It is the 21st of Anrire. It's a clear day with a high of 25. Fargrim wakes up at 5am while Lily and Karl wake up at 6am. Fargrim prays for his spells before heading down for breakfast.   Lily goes to see Xeldarix and Simone. Simone whimpers and is gently trying to pull the hatchling off her hand as it is claw deep attached to her in it's sleep. It looks upset. Lily tries to help detach the claw from Simone which wakes the dragon. In it’s panic, it breathes acid on Simone and Lily. The hatchling scampers off to hide after that. Lily gets out some rations for the hatchling. Lily stays with the hatchling while Simone casts Private Sanctum.
Meanwhile in his room Fargrim kneels and prays to Haelyn.   "Haelyn, our party has performed great deeds. We have defeated a tyrant residing in the sewers of this great town, but in their wickedness they sought to curse us for upholding righteousness. Nura, priestess of Avani, the druid Lily, the master mage Karl, Captain Erin, Xeldarix the wayward celestial, Lady Simone Dread the Seer, your servant Uqaviel, and myself have been stricken with a curse that harms us when we work our spells. If you see it fit, if you are able, and if we are worthy, please heal us of this curse."
Afterwards Lily heads down for breakfast. As Lily, Karl and Erin start to head down for breakfast they find themselves struck by a beam that seems to come through the ceiling. It doesn't hurt them. It lasts almost a full minute before fading. Karl tries a quick cantrip to see that he is no longer cursed.   Lily goes upstairs to check on Simone and Xeldarix.
While upstairs, Lily sees something out the window. She moves slower to see a dark skinned angel with completely blue eyes flying around looking through the windows. She disappears around the corner of the house as Lily catches sight of her. She has a Greataxe in hand. Lily quickly checks on everyone in the tent before heading back down stairs to the rest of the group. She warns Simone and Xeldarix to stay in the tent.
Upon coming back downstairs Lily updates the group about the angel she saw. The group heads outside to confront the angels with Fargrim believing them to be from Haelyn based on the weapon Lily saw. Outside the house there are some strange looking angels. There are two types that they see.   One has red armour with gold. It is a headless centaur with it’s head in it’s stomach. They hold a lance and have a halo where their head should be. They also have wings. The other is the same as the red one, except it has green and gold armour. It holds no weapon currently.   They claim to be here for Xeldarix. They are from Avani’s host. They claim to have orders from the chains of command but not necessarily from Avani herself. They want Xeldarix to go with Basaia and protect her from those who would take advantage of her. The group debates the matter with the angels. As the debate seems to come to an impasse, Lily heads back inside having heard Simone scream and a window break upstairs. Erin hears it as well and informs Karl. Karl glances back at Lily before squaring off against the four angels in front of him. He demands they leave while holding a spell to fire if they attack him.   The green angels summon their longblades, Karl fires off his spell but misses, and they attack the group. Karl and Fargrim both are slashed at by the angels. Karl raises a shield and deflects the attack. Fargrim slashes back twice at the creature that attacked him, hitting once. Lily asks Fargrim to hold the choke point while casting Bless on herself, Karl, Fargrim and Erin. Lily hurries upstairs as quickly as she can manage with her exhausted body. Erin engages the creature that attacked Karl, hitting it several times and stunning it. The red angels raise their lances and they become longbows shaped as harps. They fire and Karl is critically hit while Erin catches the arrow aimed at her but misses as she throws it back.   Upstairs Lily’s familiar watches on as Xeldarix is protecting Simone and the hatchling with her wings, while Uqaviel tries to keep the woman back. He is keeping her away but she throws golden chains onto Xeldarix. It goes around her neck and suddenly they multiply, loops going through her wings at key points and she cries out in pain as manacles appear on her wrists and ankles, with chains that link up to her new collar on her neck. The chain connecting the loops on her wings also connect to her neck. At this stage it just looks painful but not restrictive on her movements.   Downstairs Karl staggers, holding his neck where the arrow clipped his throat while his other hand throws a red bead at the ground in the middle of the angels. Three of the green angels and two red angels are caught in the blast. Karl spits blood at the angel in front of him and backs up into the house. One of the green angels slashes at Karl as he tries to run but misses. More angels come round the building. There are five angels of each colour in total. Only one green angel lands a hit on Fargrim, while the rest are either missing, stunned or still moving up to attack. Fargrim shifts forward next to Erin, filling the gap Karl left. He gives Karl a heal and swings at one of the green angels and he is close to bringing this one down. Erin growls seeing Karl holding his neck and looking badly hurt as his blood spills before he retreats. She starts to transform and take on her bloodform. Erin finishes off the green angel in front of Fargrim before moving up to one of the red archers. Erin hits the red angel hard. The red archers all fire their weapons. Fargrim is hit once while Erin is hit once after she catches an arrow and throws it back which hits that angel.   Upstairs. Lily continues towards Simone’s room and summons her sword. Uqaviel is holding back the woman with more force with his charge crying out in pain. His Chakras are not hitting her but are forcing her back a little which seems to prevent her from making ground.   Downstairs Karl moves up to see the arrows sticking out of Erin and Fargrim, and swears as he hurls another fireball. It strikes 3 green angels and 2 red ones. One green angel moves back a little while another charges Erin and being slashed at. Fargrim dodges his attacks but the green angel is hit by one of Fargrim’s attacks as he calls upon the power of Haelyn while he heals himself a little. Erin punches at the red angel, healing herself with the hits. The red angels all fire. Fargrim is critically hit and Erin is hit twice while she catches the first one and successfully throws it back.   Upstairs Lily moves into the room and is ready in case she is attacked. Uqaviel backs the woman up, hitting her twice with his weapon and forcing her back out the window.   Downstairs Karl calls out for everyone to take cover from the archers as he fires another fireball. It kills one of the red and green angels while hitting another two green and one red angel. One of the green angels charges Fargrim while Erin is attacked by another green angel. However, only the angel attacking Erin makes any connection. Fargrim sees how the fight is going and casts Heal on Erin to keep her in the fight. He refuses to leave Erin outside alone. Erin moves to attack the green angel while yelling at Fargrim to look after himself. She hits the angel several times. The red angels fire arrows at Fargrim and Erin. The one at Fargrim misses, while Erin is hit twice and she catches the third one and throws it back, hitting that angel.   Upstairs Lily ushers Simone and the hatchling out of the room and takes them towards her own room. As Lily heads out the room she can hear the woman threaten Uqaviel, but it's cut off by him landing a solid hit against her. Xochitl flaps over and lands in front of Xeldarix.   Downstairs Karl can see his two friends are not listening to him so he raises his hands as an invisible wall rises up to enclose Fargrim, Erin and the two green angels. It extends to prevent any aerial attacks. The two green angels stuck with Erin and Fargrim attack them. Fargrim is hit once while Erin is hit twice. Fargrim is looking very rough. Fargrim, barely hanging on, heals himself, and grips his age for the second round. Erin kills one of the green angels, healing herself with the hits before laying into the one remaining. The red angels seem to know there is an invisible barrier in their way so they move up to the large windows of the estate to try and break inside. The window into the dining room shatters.   Upstairs Lily tells Simone to stay here before running back to the room. Simone nods and holds the hatchling very tightly. Xeldarix is trying to load her longbow to fire at the angel, but her hands are shaking badly as a black halo is slowly forming above her head. Uqaviel is pushed back into the room as the angel slices into him with her battleaxe. Xochitl lands on Xeldarix’s arm and wraps her wings around her.   Downstairs Karl is yelling for Caramella to get down to the basement while firing off a magic missile spell from one of his wands. The green angel still trapped with Erin and Fargrim attacks them both, but only hits Erin. One of the green angels outside the containment area is attacking the left large window into the longue space, but doesn’t break it yet. Fargrim slashes twice at the green angel before him. Erin finishes off the green angel before running into the house to attack the red angel that is coming into the dining room. She gets a few hits in and stuns it. From the red angels who aren’t stunned they fire their arrows at Erin and three of them hit her. Erin is unable to catch any of them.   Upstairs Lily tells Xeldarix to lay down and move her hands so Lily can try and cut the chains. However, as Lily tries this the weapon glances off the chains without seeming to damage them at all. Lily demands the angel let her friend go. The angel is furious at how Lily speaks to her and explains that those chains cannot be broken and Xeldarix will do what they want one way or another. Xeldarix curls up a little covering her head while whimpering. Her wings can't go around her like usual, the chains prevent it. Her nails seem to be growing longer as red seems to taint them.   Downstairs Karl grows frustrated with Erin’s reckless behaviour and tells her to stay behind cover. He then banishes one of the red angels before ducking back behind cover, as his wall of force drops with the switch in concentration spells. The only green angel left seems to notice that wall of force is gone and goes to attack Fargrim and hits him once. Fargrim attacks back and calls forth his spiritual weapon to back him up with Erin inside now. Erin glances over shoulder as Karl gives her instructions. She races forward to attack the red angel and stuns it again before getting some cover. The red angels are unable to hit anyone at all, but not from lack of trying.   Upstairs Lily tries to reason with the angel while attempting to dispel the chains. Uqaviel tells Lily that they need the ‘Knock’ spell and that Xeldarix should not be left alone while those things are on her. There is a countdown until Xeldarix isn’t thinking like herself. Lily scoops Xeldarix up and heads for the door. As Lily gets Xeldarix, and Uqaviel was distracted from passing on information to Lily, the angel takes advantage of his distraction. Her axe digs into his shoulder and starts to glow, he cries out in pain as his skin starts to crack and peel. Like the light from the part of the axe embedded in his shoulder is shining through the muscle and back out with great force. He yells at Lily to keep going. The angel says as she goes to grab Xeldarix from Lily but Uqaviel grabs the angel's arms to keep her from succeeding. Lily touches her dagger and focuses on bringing out her wings, then she flies away with Xeldarix as fast as she can.   Downstairs Karl flinches as the arrows scrape against his magical armour. Karl pulls a wand from its holster and lets loose a flurry of red bolts at the angel attacking Fargrim which wounds it critically. The green angel hits Fargrim with his longsword. Fargrim kills the angel with his spiritual weapon while healing himself slightly. Lily flies down with black wings from the upper floor, holding a chained up Xeldarix and looks around for Karl. She yells, “Karl! Knock!” Meanwhile Erin runs back to the red angel she has been attacking and kills it before taking cover again. The red archers move up so one is on Fargrim and one is on Erin. The fire at one another’s targets while using their hooves on the person next to them. The hooves hit Erin but Fargrim dodges and the arrows all miss.   Upstairs Xochitl spits a bit of fire at the angel to try and help Uqaviel. Uqaviel grabs the hilt of the axe and the shoulders of the angel, headbutting her hard as he dislodges the axe from his shoulder, knocking her back towards the window. His arm with the shoulder injury is not moving very well.   Downstairs Karl comes around the corner and looks up the stairs. Karl shouts a word in draconic at the chains. The chains stay in place on Xeldarix as her eyes are slowly turning black. Karl can see a dark halo slowly forming above Xeldarix's head, her hands running red as claws seem to be forming. Karl asks Lily what is happening up stairs. Lily explains that Uqaviel is fighting the angel upstairs and Karl needs to keep truing to cast the spell as she recasting bless on the group to include Xeldarix and those she got before. Fargrim will attempt to send the angels back to Avani to discuss their recent transgression but they resist it. Dismay he sends his spiritual weapon to attack the red angel next to him. The angel fighting Erin tilts its head to warn Erin that she risks the light inside her with her actions. Erin growls and punches the angel, stunning it before taking cover again. The one red angel that can move tries to trample Fargrim while firing an arrow at Lily. The arrow hits and breaks Lily’s concentration on Bless. LIly responds with a Hellish Rebuke.   Upstairs Uqaviel is knocked down after a few hard hits from the axe to his leg. She looks down upon him and declares that Uqaviel should have been killed for his crimes, while Uqaviel insists his innocence and that Haelyn himself gives him this mission to protect his ward.   Downstairs Karl casts Knock to try and remove the chains, but it seems to fail. Fargrim swings twice at the red angel in front of him but only hits once. Lily recasts her Bless on everyone while starting to fly back upstairs to go help Uqaviel, accounting to the group he might die. This upsets Karl and forbids either of them from dying. Erin continues attacking the red angel that she stunned and re-stuns it. The red angel attack Fargrim tramples him a little but misses by being too close with his bow.   Upstairs the angel swings her greataxe down at Uqaviel and he raises his weapon to block which leaves them in a stalemate while Uqaviel is kneeling on the floor and the angel tries to push her blade down far enough to dig her weapon into him.   Downstairs Karl recasts Knock and the chains fall away Xeldarix's eyes roll into the back of her head. She looks to be out cold. The dark halo and her hands are yet to turn back but they might be fading a little. Karl is quick to catch her and set her down. Fargrim encourages Lily to go help Uqaviel while attack the red angel that trampled him. He gets a hit in with his axe. Erin finishes off her red angel before running to support Fargrim. She doesn’t stun it but she does hit it twice. The red angel tries to attack Fargrim, but can’t trample him or hit him with his arrows. Karl flicks fires a magic missile spell at the angel which kills it and the threat downstairs is finished.   Upstairs Lily arrives and tells Uqaviel he’s not done yet and heals him with the Heal spell. Uqaviel asks about Xeldarix, which Lily reassures him that she’s okay. Uqaviel, with renewed strength, pushes up and knocks the angel back. He throws his Chakrams. One misses and the other hits as they fly at her and back at Uqvaiel who catches them. Uqaviel warns the angel to leave before he is forced to kill her.   Unknown to Lily, the battle downstairs has ended. As it does three angels appear behind the woman. At first Uqaviel is tense but he relaxes slightly and smirks. The angel that attacked the group is named Ambriel. She is reprimanded for her behaviour and is taken back in chains for a trial. The three new angels disappear with Ambriel. Lily blinks at the new arrivals and almost says something before they disappear. As Fargrim runs upstairs he finds Lily and Uqaviel in Simone's room with a smashed window but no enemy.   The group moves into Lily’s room, Xeldarix laid on the bed to discuss what happened. Simone and the Hatchling had hidden in the closet. It had been clawing at Simone’s hands to get free. Uqaviel reveals the chains used were fiendish on Xeldarix. He knew Ambriel in passing but not enough to know her well enough in any way. The group discusses their next steps. They want to leave the city but still want to tie up a few loose ends in town. One of the big loose ends is the hatchling. They consider Lyra to raise the dragon in between “fucking shit up”, or getting Fikra back to this plane to take the dragon with the possibility of them nesting in Archestuel. Karl shares that the hatchling should be hunting and not fed like some pet.   Karl sets up his Magnificent Mansion in Lily’s closet. He specifically makes an arboretum for the hatchling to hunt squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits on the second floor. Karl then notices how much the hatchling is hurting Simone, so gives it a stern command to stop before trying to comfort the little thing. Simone and the hatching head up to the arboretum while everyone heads downstairs to clean up.   Karl tries to fix the window in Simone’s room, and while he does put the window back, it looks distorted through the glass. Erin collects the scraps of the magical tent to give back to Simone. Heading downstairs, Karl and Erin go to gather the angel’s things up and bring them inside to the library. Lily gets a broom and sweeps up the glass from the dining room window into a pile in case Karl wants to use it for his spell. Fargrim tries to straighten the furniture and other items that got knocked around during the fight. Caramella brings the group bowls of porridge and berries to take up with them.   Karl requests Xeldarix’s ritual book and tells the group about a spell in which he wants to try to contact Avani. He explains there are some risks, but it might be worth it. Something is wrong in the heavens and Karl doesn’t trust the angels at the moment. He then fixes the second window as Fargrim uses the wand to enhance Karl’s ability to think clearer. He takes the time to identify the magical items and take stock of the other items before attuning to the Arcane Grimoire.   Items collected from angels: (Their bodies had turned into motes of light before disappearing.)

Lily moves Xeldarix to the magical mansion and she reads her manual, with the intention of reading the rest of the day. Meanwhile Fargrim heads out to do some errands.
Fargrim goes out to his chef’s guild to purchase a bag of colding which is slightly discounted. Afterwards he goes component shopping before heading back to the manor for 10:30 to start sorting his things and taking some stock out of the pantry to fill his bag, emptying it except for the food required for tonight and breakfast tomorrow.
At 10:30am Karl finishes his identifying, attunement and short rest before going to see Simone about inviting Galloway over for dinner. He then goes off to buy components and head for the mage guild. They go down to Steve’s office to find that Steve has removed the effect Brygo was suffering. Trinity is there with hot chocolates and blankets for the dragons, Pemri and Brygo, who sit on the couch. Karl updates Trinity and Steve on what has happened since they parted ways the day before. He apologises to Pemri and Brygo for what they have gone through. Karl continues to tell the group about what he found out from the journal, mainly the fishes in the tanks are people. Trinity says she will arrange for students that are willing to help go with them to dispel the magic. They arrange for the students to be ready the next day to do so. Before leaving, Karl gets the location of the brother’s lair so he can arrange the meeting with Viona.   Afterwards Karl heads to the watch to find out Galloway had been halfway through writing up a warrant for Karl’s arrest due to being a day late with returning the key. With the key returned, Galloway stops that process. Karl invites him for dinner to see Simone, which he is more than happy to do. Karl gives Galloway a modified version of events of Simone’s time back in town. Claiming she was too unwell for visitors before now but is now feeling much better. They clear up some of the misunderstanding with the thieves guild in the abandoned inn.   Erin walks Karl back to the manor before heading off to see her crew with the promise to return for dinner with Galloway tonight.
As Lily takes a break from reading to have lunch, Fargrim asks her opinion for if he should be returning the axe to the mage guild or using the sword of answering he got from the share of the loot. Lily offers her thoughts on the matter that he should wait until they know what they are leaving the city to do before deciding.
At 12:30pm Karl returns to the manor, just after Lily has finished lunch and Fargrim has finished talking to her. Karl goes up to see Simone. An incident with a rabbit scaring the hatchling has Karl playing pretend at showing the hatchling how they can use their breath weapon to attack the creature. It takes a bit of encouragement for the hatchling to take the rabbit carcass from Karl. While the hatchling eats, Karl talks with Simone, sharing the good news about Galloway coming to dinner.   Afterwards Karl heads downstairs to work on his spellbook.
At 5:30 Erin arrives to see Karl and reveals that Enna is still cursed. But first goes to see fargrim. At 5:45 Caramella escorts Lord Galloway to the mansion who is looking for Simone. At 5:50 Erin and Karl come out for dinner and find Simone, Galloway and the Hatchling already in the dining area. The Hatching is hiding in Simone's blouse, shaking.   Galloway mistakes the Hatchling, that hides in Simone’s blouse, for a pet. The group learns that Galloway is of the firm believe Simone should be starting to take up her role as a Lady in the city. Simone doesn’t want to do that, she wants to travel with the group. They discuss the fact Simone would need to set up her household and such. Simone is told about the hatchling possibly getting Fikra as a foster mother which makes her sad.   Erin introduces herself as Erelee and a wonderful dinner is had with the Lord of the Watch. The idea of Lily buying the abandoned inn is floated by Galloway and he is not against the idea. He promises to look into the tax owed and if there are relatives that should inherit the property or if it is to be put up for sale. The group continues to discuss recent events.   After dinner Galloway stays to talk to Simone for half an hour before leaving. Karl goes back to scribing, Lily gives Xeldarix (who has not woken up yet) a complete check-up before spending the night reading and Fargrim relaxes.   22nd of Anarire 1524   It is a bit of a cooler day today but sunny and clear. Lily is up first at 5:30 thanks to Xeldarix sitting bolt upright. Lily checks her over and asks if she is okay, but Xeldarix is not. She seems to be in a state of shock and grief. The lady from her dreams is gone and Xeldarix believes it to be her fault. Lily talks Xeldarix through her feelings and tells her a little about Basaia. After a bit of meditation Lily takes Xeldarix out to the eating area for breakfast.   Fargrim is up next at 6:30 where he spends a fair bit of time praying. Karl is up at 7 and heads straight out for breakfast with Erin. At breakfast the group discusses the 100 fish that are polymorphed people that need rescuing. They also discuss needing to catch up with Enna to remove the curse from her. The group also discusses the issue with angels continuing to come after Xeldarix and how they will need to go to hell at some point to find contracts that could make the situation better.   The group goes up to wake Simone and reassure her that taking her place as a lady might not be all that bad. They consider trying to get Lyra involved with the hatchling. Fargrim goes to find Caramella to write a note for Lyra requesting a favour. Fargrim returns as the group is getting Simone to answer a question for them.   Question: What city is Falak’s new lair closest to?   "Falak hides to gather her power, blaming the intruders for forcing her to start again. She preens herself, admiring her new shiny scales beneath Saarmen. Soon a revelation will come about her new chosen home and what lies above it."   The group doesn’t see this as ideal and discusses the matter. They give Simone a ring of telepathy so she will be able to contact Fargrim, Steve, Erin or Salma if she needs. Afterwards Simone and the hatchling leave so Simone can cast Private Sanctum before retreating back into the magical manor for the day. Meanwhile Karl finishes mending the windows the best he can. Once everyone is ready they head to the mage guild.
At 9am the group arrives at the mage guild. When they arrive to see Steve they discuss the plans for the day and Lily checks to see if Steve would be able to try and heal the hatchling. They go see Master Sparrow and June to see if they can help today and it seems that they are ready to help and have more apprentices who have volunteered to help. There Sam is updated on the fact that Enna is still cursed. Once they collect Master Barnes, they leave for the abandoned inn.   At 9:30am the group arrives at the abandoned inn to find the guards ready to let them in. They head downstairs, into the sewers and into the lair. Lily uses her folding boat to get everyone across without having to swim. Karl checks the area for secret doors with a new spell of his, but there are none in the inner section of the lair. As the group enters this area Fargrim and Jackson are the only ones to notice a tiny pseudodragon in the tank with the carnivorous fish. It looks wet, tired and annoyed as it stays above the water and the hungry fish stare at it. In the same track there is a large rock with a tunnel at the bottom of it. The pseudodragon can fit in your hands compared to the size it should be.   Fargrim points it out to Karl while Lily checks the area for magic. The tanks are all magical. So are the other two doors that are open in this room. Karl uses his mage hand up to open the hatch for Aeryn so he can get her out and set her on his shoulder. Karl gets flashes from his familiar about where she went of a tunnel with air and skeletons that is surrounded by water. Then flashes of her exploring the tunnels.   Before starting to look at the fish the group double checks the space for magical items, starting with the nest room. Lily spots a cap that is magical, a rod that is magical. On the table with the mirror there are 3 potions that are magical. Steve and June start to go through the bedding and find coins and gems. June, Steve and Sam stay to count this since Lily and Karl have spells with timers on them so they move on.   In the nest: 2400cp, 800sp, 70gp (174gp), Carnelian (opaque orange, 50gp), Chalcedony (opaque white, 50gp), Chrysoprase (translucent green, 50gp), Chrysoprase (translucent green, 50gp), Citrine (transparent pale yellow-brown, 50gp), Jasper (opaque blue, 50gp), Moonstone (translucent white with pale blue glow, 50gp), Onyx (pure black, 50gp), Sardonyx (opaque bands of red and white, 50gp) 450gp   Moving on to Falak’s lab, Trinity finds a spellbook. It a spell none of the Master’s recognise.
Baleful Polymorph.   Spell Level: 5 Casting Time: 1 action Range: 60 ft Components: V, S, M (A caterpillar cocoon) Duration: Permanent SAVE: Con save   As polymorph, except that you change the subject into a Small or smaller animal of no more than 1 CR. If the new form would prove fatal to the creature, such as an aquatic creature not in water, the subject gets a +4 bonus on the save.   If the spell succeeds, the subject must also make a Wisdom save. If this second save fails, the creature loses its extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities, loses its ability to cast spells (if it had the ability), and gains the alignment, special abilities, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores of its new form in place of its own. It still retains its class and level (or HD), as well as all benefits deriving therefrom (such as proficiency score, save bonuses, and hit points). It retains any class features (other than spellcasting) that aren’t extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like abilities.   Any polymorph effects on the target are automatically dispelled when a target fails to resist the effects of baleful polymorph, and as long as baleful polymorph remains in effect, the target cannot use other polymorph spells or effects to assume a new form. Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to baleful polymorph, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype can revert to its natural form as a standard action providing it has not failed the wisdom save.
Looking around the group finds the following components:   Butter, Holy Water (x3), Mercury, Fur of Bloodhound, Golden Reliquary (500g), a drop of Sweet oil, a diamond (1000g), a drop of pitch, Diamonds (25,000g), A mixture of earth, wood and water, Fleece, Pearl (100g), An Artist Representation of Falak (worth 5g), Holly berry, A strange rock that no one recognises, A pretty flower (orchid), A pickled octopus tentacle, unholy water (x2), Glowworm, makeup, Sulfur, snakeskin glove (5g), Iron powder (2cp), feather, Some tiny crystals, tears, glass silver, ammunition (pellet), 2 platinum rings (50g each), stone, Forked metal rod (x2 but they both look slightly different from one another), yew leaf, wisp of smoke in a vial, obsidian, Gum Arabic (Khinasi) Hemisphere.   Afterwards Lily tries to move the chaos spike and a wave of energy goes through the group. Master Barnes suddenly hits Pyre while Karl and Fargrim just seem to go inactive. Lily tries to move it again, but instead 3 more of her appear, meaning there are four Lily’s in the room. The group decides to leave it be and start to rescue the fish.   The following spellcasters rescue the fish:
  • Jackson 1
  • Hathana 2
  • Pyre 1
  • Karl 6
  • June 2
  • Lilny 1
  • Steve 4
  • Master Barnes 4
